For a more gritty combat Shadowrun is an option. you can keep the ammo system or simulate heat buildup by having a heat value for each shot, a max heat for the gun, and a cool down rate. shields are just self replenishing hit boxes. The magic system is not too different from the video game. The limits on how often powers can be used is determined by how powerful you make the ability relative to the characters stat. while there are no rules for ship travel or zero g movement there is a lot of content for other technology. beyond the core rulebook Arsenal has weapons, armor, vehicles, and general purpose equipment. Augmentation has cybernetics, genetic engineering, and medical tech. Unwired is cyberspace, hacking, AI, and other similar technology.

I would love to have the Ares Thunderstruck Gauss Rifle in the video games. 10 round semiautomatic assault cannon.

I have had a fondness of the Savage Worlds system for it's ease and openness and found that someone made a game based on ME1 a while back. Some of it seems right on, some sketchy.

I was actually just thinking about this myself. I was considering using the Serenity RPG for a base.

I like this system more than the system that i am currently using, yes i am runnign a Mass Effect themed campaign using a different set of rules. But it sucks.

Can someone here help me with making a Omni-tool using Saga Edition Rules? I tried so many times and each time it failed haha. Any help will be much appreciated.

I was looking over some of the stuff you guys have been saying and I think I might have found a solution that is pretty solid.  Try looking into the D20 modern system, its pretty easy to build a good character, and it offers psionics as well.  There is a "D20 Future" book for it as well that details different tech lvls.  Give it a look, I think it'll be helpful at the very least to your process.  I am kinda surprised a tabletop hasn't come out yet as it is.

Good luck, I hope it all works out

The issue that D20 has created is an overpowered casting system
at low levels the caster is weak and needs to be protected by the fighter. And, at high levels the caster is godlike compared to the fighter.
However this flaw occurs throughout many systems,
in the starwars system you see that force-users are very powerful as compared to regular combatants

Additionally I commend everyone who is attempting to create a mass effect rpg system, as there is allot of potential for other stories and a good RPG to come from it.
I started creating a rpg system long ago, but after seeing the volus come back, I am looking at picking this project back up again.
I find the biggest issue is seamlessly melding the biotics, tech and combat aspects of the game together

Mutants and Masterminds might be a better system. Just have the GM go through the powers and bundle them up according to what classes you want to make available to your players.
It uses 1 d20 for every roll. Allows for some awesome oppurtunities, just modify it to fit the Mass Effect universe

If you end up making it, can you make it public for printout. I understand if you don't want people claiming they made it, but still I want to get into table top rpg's, and what better game than MassEffect

Googled my way on here, hadn't even thought to check the forums when I was looking for a Mass Effect RPG. One suggestion I got when asking around about Sci-Fi RPGs was to look at Eclipse Phase—it might be a good base. It's collective commons and has a fairly streamlined ruleset. But I'm curious if anyone has a good Fate skin ready?

Also, why on earth hasn't Bioware pursued this, do you think? Honestly, Mass Effect would have been a better setting for an MMO than The Old Republic IMO, but it also is such a rich universe that it makes for the perfect setting for a great sci-fi RPG.

Does anyone know if there has been talk of doing an RPG?
