Call me cynical but I bet even half of y'all wouldn't do more than give him a kiss on the cheek let alone be in real relationship with him.

Whatever you're trying to say makes no sense at all because uhhhh
1. Turians aren't real
2. We don't live in space
3. we don't even know any alien species.

pssst.... it's all pretend.

Then again there are some weird fetishes out there...

I don't know if most guys would go for Tali in real life either, though she's arguably more "human" than Garrus.  Most guys are terrified of what they will find under a human woman's clothes the first time, haha

One could argue the same test would fumble many an asari or quarian loving male who came into contact with a woman who actually had reversed knees or tentacles for hair.

All right, so almost like the "forbidden" quality of the relationship makes it more attractive? Or the fact that it's something new and different makes it attractive (and thus why Jacob is almost completely neglected by female players, because he's "too normal").

It is a combination of the two in the majority of cases, although it is liable to differ between each person. Jacob has problems far beyond simply being "too normal." He is arguably the most issue riddled character in the game but refuses to discuss anything with the player. Imagine yourself a woman on a date and that date actually opens with a relatively interesting topic. (Jacob's opener was his role as a Corsairs) Yet when you question him on the subject he "isn't keen on forcing these talks." Now that is perfectly alright initially however this remains a constant. It would be annoying.

Perhaps the lethal blow for Jacob is the horrendous dialogue for Femshep and his famous "but priiize" line. Femshep is aggressive and forward with Garrus yet partially subtle and primarily flirtatious. With Jacob unless you are quite meticulous with the dialogue wheel. She comes across as a cat in heat. I cannot imagine women liking this and evident by his forum. They don't. :P

I wouldn't do Garrus IRL, no, but that's because he's way too extreme for me.  Give me some other turian who's strong, confident, and goofy, but has a nerdy, sappily romantic side, and isn't running around killing people.  Frankly, I'd rather get a rash than get pregnant.

Mostly, it's the "running around killing people" bit I'm worried about.  That and I have a feeling our personalities wouldn't mesh very well.

YEAH SO I'D BONE AN ALIEN.  DEAL WITH IT.

I've actually done all the romances except Thane's, and it seems like Jacob is kind of uninterested in Shepard's advances too.  She seems like she is super aggressive and he doesn't respond, almost like the gender stereotypes are reversed (Shepard is horny, doesn't care about personality where Jacob is timid and dismissive).  I thought the later dialogue in the relationship was better, although I can see it hard to get that far if you don't like it to begin with.

Hey, never know until you try, right? lol  Actually, a good personality is important enough for me that even if a "physical relationship" was extremely weird or impossible, I'd still stick with an alien if she was really amazing.

Well, I tried the Jacob thing once and I just didn't get very far because he's like the nice dorky guy with the hot bod who sits next to you in Science class and you go out of your mind and flirt with him one day and then later when you're kissing in the supplies closet you realize it feels like your kissing your brother.

Hahaha, of all the ways I would describe Jacob's romance. This would not have crossed my mind. I thank you for the laugh all the same. Regardless, this further illustrates personality is far greater candidate for women because from a pure appearance Jacob is attractive. He simply lacks a more defined persona.

Another aspect I could speculate on is comfort. Garrus is perceived to be both more in need of stability and comfort than Jacob, who more or less affirms he is dealt with everything. This is purely derived from observation over the years but women tend to prefer playing the nurturing role. Besides no one wishes to enter into a relationship where they feel unnecessary.

Because they're alien and alien love interests get judged differently than human ones. Garrus literally complains through both games yet he's so interesting but Kaidan and Jacob have come to grips with their stuff and they're boring and Emo and whiners. it's mostly the Alien thing at leas thow I see it.

And that's all there is to it.  Otherwise ugly people wouldn't have kids and no one would have called for a GarrusMance.

I've been sort of following the discussion and it seems that women are attracted in a variety ways. Some like the personality and voice, others like the physical features.. some like both. I think I fall in the camp of liking the whole package.

My favourite bit of the turians are their fringe and head/facial features. And it's not just because of the kitty face (not all turians even have the kitty face expression). There's something about how sharp but not angular those features are and the shape of their faces overall, I don't know how to describe it. I've been trying to put my finger on what exactly it is I find so fascinating but can't seem to place it. The eyes are definitely attractive and the expressions are distinctly alien yet still human-like. The overall shape of their bodies is unique enough that its exotic and they have all the imporant bits aside from lips (and even though they only have 3 fingers, they are quite, um, long fingers).

I think they're absolutely beautiful, honestly, like birds without feathers (in a good way!). There's a nice mixture of humanoid features with alien. And the colourations are all different so no two turians look the same. I really like their more earthy colour schemes with the brightly coloured tattoos/war paint. The contrast is sharp and pretty. It's not over the top.. they don't cover their whole bodies in tats and it's not too subtle either.

As for personalities, many have already outlined Garrus' awesome qualities but I'll just add that turians, in general, seem to be genuinely interested in understanding and integrating with human society. I find that absolutely fascinating, given what we know of the First Contact War and it's certainly not what one would immediately expect from a race of people who are considered to be "Space Spartans/Romans". There's just something inherently romantic about their interest in humans (and other races, but they seem to really have a soft spot for the humans with the way they have adopted human mannerisms).

I could probably think of more but these are the immediate thoughts that came to mind on the subject.

I dunno why, but somehow I find you writing about "ugly space-dinosaur" very offensive and ask you to take it back, or else...*roar*

You may have a point, but Jacob's romance was legitimately ruined by HussyShep.

And I'm actually starting to like Kaidan.  Took me a few playthroughs, but he's not so bad.

That's a very good explanation, it really gives me a good answer to my question.  I was using the fact that women find other Turians attractive besides Garrus to give a basis to a physical point rather than a personality trait.  However, I can see as you put it that Turians in general have a more attractive personality on average, being confident, innovative, and interested in what else is around them.

Even though I'm a guy, I thought femshep/Kaiden was the best relationship in ME 1.  I liked it because I thought both participants were standing on pretty equal levels.  Ash seemed too aggressive sometimes, and Liara too shy and submissive (though changed  A LOT in ME 2).  I really find the concept of a male and female of equal strength that compliment each other the most attractive type of relationship.  This is how I saw the femshep/Garrus relationship as well, though I thought it was way too short.

hey, save garrus from hussyshep , too.

Garrus: yea, i once boned this female turian on a turian ship....

So turian Batman is out, but a turian engineer or chef would be all right. Sounds reasonable, and adorable.

"I'm an engineer, honey. I look at ships all day."

ME3 needs more banter from random couples.

I'm still mad at Kaiden for being a jerk on Horizon. Where was my right hook option?

And guess who stood up for me? Garrus.

Yeah, that part of the game was really disappointing for me.  I understand why Bioware did it, but they needed to give Kaiden/Ash a few lines like Anderson in the "sorry, I understand, but I simply can't help you because you're working for Cerberus" vein.  The only options were "I can see you are blinded/won't listen," and you get "No YOU'RE the dummy-head Shepard! F-you!" Still hoping for a Kaiden/Ash DLC to resolve that

+1

I think that is one of the attractive things about the relationship between FemShep and Garrus. In ME1 the relationship is more of "mentor and student" but it evolves into being something a bit more equal later on in ME2.  Not just equal as soldiers/squaddies but equal despite their species, gender, and upbringing.  Garrus essentially becomes another leader-type character (and if Miranda wasn't around would likely have become second-in-command) by trying to follow in Shepard's footsteps. I hope he really gets a chance in ME3 to show off his potential and hopefully some his self-confidence will return, regardless if he is in an intimate relationship with Shepard or not.

I'm pretty sure he was frozen by a seeker right up until that point.  Perhaps the biotic paralyzation field decativated after the ship took off.  Though it is kind of a funny image thinking of him hiding behind a box, just hoping Shepard survives so he can b*tch at her after all the danger is gone, lol.
