Curse: How much actual cinematic and cut scene content is there in Dragon Age 2?
Matthew Goldman: A substantial amount. That's got to be almost a quarter of our game, maybe 6-7 hours worth? There's so much VO work, so many trick camera shots, and custom scenes.

But, more is better, right?
Whoa, that can't be right?! 6-7 hours of cutscenes being a quarter of the game meaning the whole deal is like 30 hours max?
Oh dear...what have they done!
Nah, this Goldman guy can't possibly be serious...6-7 hours of cutscenes? Bleh!

ooh nice i was smart enough not to pre order...103 hours of cinematics in a 7gigs game???man i want to play a game not to watch a medival movie..lord of the rings did that better for me anyways
Dont over react or anything!!...
If you spend 40hrs playing the game 103 minutes works out to be less then 5% of your playing time watching cutscenes! So the other 95% you can play the game and do something.

So it's an interactive movie now?
(Just kidding. But I do hope the cinematic sequences don't drown out actual gameplay.)
An interactive movie with fast and fun combat? I don't see a down side!

30-40 hours playthrough is standard in an RPG but they are talking fast playthroughs. For me, 30 hours usaly becomes 100 hours. Don't worry.Dubya75 wrote...

It's 24-28 hours going by Goldman, and they already said the game is shorter, so good luck squeezing out 100 hours on this one.
I did everything save 5 quests I missed in my last play through, and I only clocked in less than 60 hours, no dialogue skipping.

Whenever I finish a Mass Effect playthrough, usually 40-50 hours, I'm always caught off guard slightly by the fact that the game is over already. I have more fun in games where there's always something to do and when I think that the game is almost over, something else happens and I end up playing at least another 40 hours or so.

Also I would guess that you would not be seeing a certain percentage of cutscenes in one play through of the game.

Perhaps, just perhaps the 30-40 hour gameplay predicted for DA2 is after the cutscenes have been subtracted. Just maybe.
103 minutes more or less don't matter much I think. Also for any who dislike them they can just be skipped.

Let's see, DA2 is what....~40 hours ? That's 103 min to a ~2400 minute game.
MGS4 is roughly 8 hours. 500 mins of cutscenes to a 480 min game.
No comparison.

I don't get why people are comparing this to Metal Gear.

We cant really say how long DA2 yet since we never played it, never trust the word of the devs, they kinda need add some fluff...since you know, its THEIR game.
My general rule is take whatever the devs says and cut it in half, so my guess would be around 25 hours. But again, we dont know till we play it.
I think Christina Norman said Mass Effect was 20 hours long, my first play-through took me 60 hours.
Tales of Symphonia said 80 hours on the back of the case. 150 hours later, my buds and I beat it.
We dont really know until we play it ourselves!
But yeah, in the end, DA2 is a game that you do not play just ONCE. Duh.

Uhm, this contradicts your general rule. But I don't care that much about how long a game is, I'd take a enjoyable, but shorter game with replayability anytime over a much longer, that I play just once.
On topic, I happen to like cutscenes, a lot. For me, in this day and age, games are a very visual medium. I'd rather watch the story progress then read it in a text box.
