Just wondering, who else is using the upcoming release as an excuse to themselvesPosted Image to upgrade? I am!!

going from a core 2 e8400 @3.6 to a core i7 2600k, with an ECS mobo with hydralogix onboard. Also will be adding a second 6870 in cf mode in about a month or so. Ima do an easy OC to 4.5 ghz and call it a day!

Also stoked about a certain Medieval Japan themed RTS coming out about the same time, my other excuse to do it.

My wife is not happy btw lol

well i think my computer will handle DA2 pretty well my Q6600 at 2.4 is pretty old but it has always done its job well, maybe my HD5770 is not perfect put hell I can play Crysis on Full HD with max details (no AA at about 25 fps so its still playable), BUT i am thinking of upgrading also to a i5 2500k and 8 GB of RAM and in the future and a (or maybe 2 o.O) HD6970 but I don't think I am there (yet).

I really wanted to upgrade in time for DA2, but it's just not in the budget at the moment. Now I'm aiming for upgrading by The Old Republic at least.

That's my situation too. Or I buy DA II or I upgrade my PC, so I'll have to play DA II on medium for a time. I'll probably upgrade it to play TOR too. go Jedi-Mages or whatever it's the name ~

Yeah, been holding off on a dx11 card for a while now, since DA2 uses DX11 seems like a good excuse.

..might hold off until the last minute though, too many reference cards still kicking around.

Nope, I don't need to upgrade for DA2 as I still have pretty strong components (i7, 1366 mainboard, ddr3 ram etc.)

- Power supply goes from 550 Watt to 750 Watt.
- Graphic cards goes from nVidia GTS250 to Radeon HD6870.

Motherboard will be upgraded at some point, but graphcard was more important.

(my mom doesn't know I'm upgrading my pc, she's going to kill me when she finds out). xD

Ive been wanting to go to a 3+ghz quad core anyway, and the q9650 never drops in price. So I figured why upgrade to a 2 generation obsolete cpu-its just not worth it to me to do that. So, I've got some money right now and decided to pull the trigger, I should be good for a few years now.

Nice way to go, but why upgrade the mobo if you are keeping the old cpu? Or upgrading that as well?

Thankfully when I re-built my PC a while ago, I took the initiative to future-proof a bit. :)
It was more expensive, but should be well worth it in the long run.

Core i7 930 / 6 GB DDR3 RAM / nVidia GTX 260 (896 MB) should work just fine - the only things that may get upgraded in the not too distant future are GPU and RAM, I am going to be keeping the CPU and Motherboard for a while as I really like the i7's.

Actually I'm downgrading. Removed on of my HD4850s because either the other one is failing, or the power supply can't accomodate them both anymore for whatever reason...

Yeah that cpu is fine, still current, and you can get a serious OC out of it. I was also considering going the i7 930-950 route, but the added cost of triple channel memory, plus when I saw that the 2600k is keeping up with/sometimes beating the i7980x for a third of the cost, it made perfect sense to me.

You shouldnt need more than 600 watts for a pair of those.

Indeed, it is more than sufficient for what I use my PC for, so keeps me happy.

It's definitely worth going for the 2600k over the 930 now, that chip can achieve some insane overclocks. Easilly 4.5GHz, seen upto 5.1GHz stable so far (but haven't really been following it).

Built in AES, integrated graphics (while obviously no good for gaming) and InTru3D are some interesting features too, plus the 2600k does not cost much more than the 930 at all.

If putting another 1GB of old slow RAM in my aged computer counts, then yes, I already did upgrade. However, considering that I'm scraping by with a seven-year old system, no, I don't really count that.

I wish I could afford an upgrade. However, I'm encouraged that Mass Effect 2, which released earlier this year, runs without a hitch on my computer and that Origins ran very smoothly (most of the time) as well. BioWare seems to make its games so that they still function well even on the minimum requirements.

My hardware seems above the recommended specs listed, so I have no need to upgrade. But...I won't know for sure until release.

$2500 for a gaming computer.

$200 for an Xbox 360.

Why not get a console?

No offense but you obviously have no experience with PCs.

I just finished (well, sorta finished) building a new PC. I'm only running on one GPU at the moment, but plan on making it an SLI box by the time DA2 hits the shelves. I'm also still playing around with the clock speed on the 980x, I haven't ever really done much overclocking so I'm not going too crazy on that front. (Though I noticed my 980x was underclocked out of the box, so I'm fixing that at least)

CPU: 980x
MEM: 12gig ddr3
GPU: NVidia GTX 580

I haven't settled on whether I want to do 2-way or 3-way SLI, we'll see what the 3dmark11 says. Right now I'm hitting P5662 3DMarks.

The true test will be whether or not I can max out the settings on DA2. If not, then I suppose I'll just have to go faster. Posted Image

DA2 is not a game to upgrade a computer for.
