$2500 for a gaming computer.
$200 for an Xbox 360.

Why not get a console?

Build your own PC and you can get a "gaming computer" much cheaper than that.
Though if you buy a pre-made "gaming computer" then sure, you're going to pay through the nose for it.

I also have an Xbox 360, but I mainly use it for console exclusive games since I re-built my PC.
Mainly due to the fact that PC games are cheaper, and generally better looking when you crank up the AA/AF.

Upgrading my NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 (graphics card) to something higher depending on what I can afford at the time

I don't buy pre-made computers. Am I the only person in the universe who builds a top-of-the-line system whenever I upgrade? Yeah, you can get a cheaper computer if you aim for medium quality, but in a few years time that medium system is due for another upgrade whereas the expensive system is still high end.

Not upgrading for DA2 specifically, but the release manages to match my upgrade cycle nicely. :) And even with buying an SSD the price is not even half of $2500, where do get those figures from?

- Power supply goes from 550 Watt to 750 Watt.
- Graphic cards goes from nVidia GTS250 to Radeon HD6870.

Motherboard will be upgraded at some point, but graphcard was more important.

(my mom doesn't know I'm upgrading my pc, she's going to kill me when she finds out). xD

in idle mode your nvidia sucks up more power than the ati. with full gpu usage they are both in the same league and therefore a power supply upgrade is totally senseless... btw 550w are more than enough.

No offense but you obviously have no experience with PCs.

No offense but you should stop buying junk.

made my day... with 2.5k you could by 3 power rigs potent enough to play everything out there and what will be relased the next years. you know that nowadays engines have to be built with the weakest piece of hardware in mind (which will be a console always)?

Or you could buy high-end but not quite top-of-the-line hardware, and get the best of both worlds ?

That depends on what you call top of the line I guess.

This time last year I purchased a new motherboard, 6GB DDR3 RAM and the Core i7 930, and the motherboard/CPU are not going to be changing any time soon, they are more than sufficient.

May 2009 I purchased my GTX 260, and that's still going strong/plays the latest games just fine. Only reason I could possibly have for wanting to upgrade that would be DX11 support, but considering the amount of support in current games even that's pretty pointless.

Combined the Motherboard, CPU, GPU, PSU and RAM cost me £733.36 (currently equivalent to roughly $1156).

Only thing I am considering getting is another 6GB RAM at some point... that, and more 1TB HDD... can never have enough of them.

I got a new computer in December. My previous one could probably run DA2, but it wouldn't be running good as I would want it.

i doubt that DA2 needs upgrading unless your pc really sucks. i don't believe the pc's system reqs, either they're not real or they're artificial, because the game can play on a console like x360 which basically sucks in specs compared to any modern pc.

nope, because you aren't unless you're paying like 10k$ for the newest stuff which is ridiculously overpriced.

Clearly Microsoft's long-term disinformation campaign has been successful. I sometimes wonder if Alienware is a Microsoft front company.

Edit: or is DSerpa trolling? Hard to tell.

The game has been modified to run on the x360 to make it less demanding, thats why pc recced specs are so much higher than what an x360 can do.

And to the guy who says 2500 for a gaming rig- I don't know what you're smoking, but I want some. If I were to build an awesome rig based on the 2600k that I'm getting it would cost approx half that, and that's buying everything from newegg, and it's a machine which can at the very least keep up with, and in some cases surpass an i7 980x($1000)-based rig.

Will be adding another 5870 in crossfire mode, though that's for TW2, the one 5870 I have right now would be able to run DA2 on maximum settings just fine but TW2? this needs something special :P

Not for DA2. My 4870X2 should handle it and Shogun2 TW nicenice. For ME3 and Skyrim, there's a 6970 and a couple new water blocks that will be joining me.

I don't think the system requirements are high enough for me to need to upgrade, my 3 year old PC should be able to handle it without trouble

I upgraded... well sort of... I sold my older PC and got a top of the line iMac. Was about to boot camp win 7 on it as a gaming setup but since Dragon Age 2 is coming out on Mac I will instead spend the $200 license directly on bioware games instead.

More and more games are coming out on the Mac. In a couple of years it will be a great gaming platform. This last year has turned it from desolate to pretty ok (Thank you Steam!)

Haha glad it's not just me doing this, I just ordered a brand new custom gaming rig off PCSpecialist LITERALLY just for DA2. Mass Effect 3 too, I guess...

A Porsche is also more expensive than a Lada. Also, $2500 for a gaming PC? You need to find a better store.

A little early to upgrade, dont you think?

I play on the xbox, and I plan on just deleteing a bunch of stuff on my stroage so I can make room for all game space. Not really upgradeing... Just making room for it.

Replaced my old Geforce 8800 GT with a 460 GTX. Rest of my system's well up to spec.

I'm actually serious, but as everyone else is obviously an expert, I'll back out of the thread in ignominious defeat. Oh, the shame. It burns. It burns us! It freezes!

No, considering I just finished upgrading all of the computers in my house last week. I'd go broke (again) if I had to do it again this soon.

Edit: To explain, I regularly upgrade, not just for DA 2. =P

Antec NSK 4482B Black
Antec EarthWatts Green 380 W included w/ case

Total Price: $511

Assuming you already have the case, power supply and optical drive, you scratch 3 things from the above and you get a total price of $419 which is the prices as of December 2010... that $400 PC gets you a maximum performance at resolutions like 1600*1200 and 1680*1050 and 1280*720.... so yeah everyone is obviously an expert because for $2500 I can build a supercomputer that calculates pi to the gazillionth number in 2 minutes.

Edit: prices from tomshardware.

*goes to build a supercomputer out of PS3s or something*

Wait, the Air Force already did that. Curses.

*ponders what he could realistically build for $2,500 using more expensive parts*

Or I could just use that to pay down on my college cost. :o
