I'm actually serious, but as everyone else is obviously an expert, I'll back out of the thread in ignominious defeat. Oh, the shame. It burns. It burns us! It freezes!

AMD Athlon II X3 445
Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92
ASRock M3A770DE
Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3-1333 (PC3 10600) Model 996586
Sparkle SXX460768D5UNM GeForce GTX 460 768 MB
Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD322GJ/U 320GB SATA 3Gb/s
Antec NSK 4482B Black
Antec EarthWatts Green 380 W included w/ case
Lite-On 24X DVD Burner SATA iHAS 124-04
Total Price: $511

Assuming you already have the case, power supply and optical drive, you scratch 3 things from the above and you get a total price of $419 which is the prices as of December 2010... that $400 PC gets you a maximum performance at resolutions like 1600*1200 and 1680*1050 and 1280*720.... so yeah everyone is obviously an expert because for $2500 I can build a supercomputer that calculates pi to the gazillonth number in 2 minutes.

Edit: prices from tomshardware.

Just wondering, who else is using the upcoming release as an excuse to themselvesPosted Image to upgrade? I am!!

going from a core 2 e8400 @3.6 to a core i7 2600k, with an ECS mobo with hydralogix onboard. Also will be adding a second 6870 in cf mode in about a month or so. Ima do an easy OC to 4.5 ghz and call it a day!

Also stoked about a certain Medieval Japan themed RTS coming out about the same time, my other excuse to do it.

My wife is not happy btw lol

I talked my husband into building us a whole new system with our tax return money, which we should hopefully have back before DA2 comes out.

I didn't have to goad him too hard, really. Our current system has been crashing and giving us problems for a while, now.

If I get this job that I'm interviewing for, then I'm shelling out for a new DX11 card.

Why not get a console?

No offense but you obviously have no experience with PCs.

No offense but you should stop buying junk.

You can play almost every title on a decent computer. You don't need a supercomputer. So no offense, but you really should be less rude.

Clearly Microsoft's long-term disinformation campaign has been successful. I sometimes wonder if Alienware is a Microsoft front company.

I've found that Alienware doesn't make computers. They make consoles dressed up as them.

While my current PC has a few years worth of life, it is still six-year-old and has been upgraded a few times, and I generally replace computers after 5 or 6 years and will be replacing it in 2-3 months. I generally re-purpose my older computers, and will likely convert my current system to a server, as it is certainly capable of handling that and more.

My old RAMBUS system will be removed from service (it's roughly 12 - 13 years old) and be sent for re-cycling. My other computer will be re-built with XP SP1 to handle some of my older hardware that is still in excellent condition but won't work with with newer OS and service packs beyond SP1.

In other words, I get my money's worth from a computer ;)

Someone is still living in the dark ages, performance vs. money is AMD, ever wonder why Intel never made a triple core category for its line? because it can never compete with AMD on the prices there.. also what wrong with 4 GBs of ram?

The harddisk is easily an expansion, if you're upgrading your PC you already has a harddisk, this you can merely add to it... or you can scratch it as well, I mean if I have a 1.5TB WD harddisk why would I want some extra 320GB?

Sorry buddy but you can make a monster rig easily for under $1,000 - inculding peripherals.

Personally, I have both a PC and a PS3 :) But certainly there is no need to spend $2,500 unless you are buying an Alienware, in which case you don't deserve that money anyway.

Exactly, I never buy OEM PCs, I always custom build them, cheaper and much more effective and I get the parts I really want, while I don't want this to go down the road of PC vs. consoles I still had to clear that out.

Because your OS is likely installed on that 320 drive and if you've got the room in your case it's easier to just add the 1.5 TB drive as opposed to re-installing everything.

If your only contribution to a thread about PC gaming is going to be 'BUY A CONSOLE', then I'd strongly recommend you avoid the urge to post in it.

When there were rumors of cross-platform imports, I was all set to splurge on a new rig for the PC version, but since I can only import from XBox to XBox, I'm sticking to the console for now and saving my money.

Whenever I finally do upgrade, though, I have big plans to get the DA:O Ultimate Edition for PC and finally play Origins as it was meant to be played.

I would upgrade, but I have a laptop, and from what I've heard, laptops are hard to upgrade. One day, I will have a decent gaming PC!

I have one of those overpriced gaming computers. Anytime I needed a new gaming PC in the past, my dad was more willing to shell out $2000 to $3000 for a gaming rig, because he believed self-built computers die sooner than professionally built ones. As a result, the gaming rig I got for a high school graduation present was $2000 (back in 2005), and my college graduation present PC was $3000 (in 2009). My specs are:

AMD Phenom II X4 3.0 Ghz (I don't believe in overclocking)

8 GB of RAM

Dual ATI Radeon HD 4870's (Remember, I got this in 2009)

700 GB hard drive

It's a 2 year old rig, but she looks good for her age. I probably won't upgrade my GPU for a long time, since I'm unemployed. My BS is in chemistry, and there were MASSIVE layoffs in the chemical industry in 2009. Recovery has been slow, and in my geographic area, there is one chemistry job available and over 64 people applying for it. Let me tell you, graduating from college is like going from riches to rags...

That post about needing $2500 for a gaming computer made me LOL so hard I nearly wet myself.. I spent about $600 total on this PC and it can play any game out there, on highest settings, without so much as a frame-rate drop of even 1fps.

Back on topic, however, no, I have no plans of upgrading for DA2 as I have no plans of purchasing it anytime soon. I might sometime later, perhaps several months after its first release. And by then, if I need to upgrade, I will.

That depends on the laptop, I understand a lot of the newer ones are much easier to upgrade than the older ones.

LOL

Where do you get your PC information from? I just showed this to my husband and he laughed.

You can build a PC that plays games for far less than that.

I'm going to get a new computer built nearer when the release of DA2. My current computer's Video Card fried after three years of use and my current hardware specs can't handle a good new video card. It's going to cost me $1200 AUD for good specs that will last me a few years, since good hardware are a bit expensive here than from the States (newegg doesn't ship to Aus, boo)

I upgraded my graphic card and a new power supply to go with it a month ago,

I tell myself that it was not only because of Dragon Age II, but deep inside of me I know that I am a filthy liar...

Going from a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core 4800+ 2.41 GHZ w/ an Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT to a Intel i7 950 3.06GHZ w/ a Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X.
