I upgraded in early december in anticipation of DA2, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Shogun 2 Total War, Fable III and Witcher 2.

Now got a sexy HD5770 gfx card. Made Darksiders look pretty stunning.

I just got a Mac Air. Should DA2, if released for Macs, run smoothly on it? Cause otherwise it's console for me. My current computer is a piece of junk.

Just gotta push through the thesis and then I can upgrade!

I'm thinking of getting a pair of HD6850s, a new Lian Li case with 5 nice big fans, and a Corsair Hydro H70 mini-watercooler for my q6600 so that I can overclock it until I can afford to upgrade the mobo and CPU as well.

That should hold me in good stead for DA2, Deus Ex and Shogun 2, and probably until Skyrim too.

I did this for DA:O! I had one of the crappy old 360s that scratched any really quickly spinning CDs (including my ME CD <_<) and when DA:O came out I was not going to go through that again.  So off to the Microsoft repair shop it went.

I'm still pretty confused why anyone would thinkt hey need to upgrade for DA2 of all games XD

Even more so from people thinking you need to upgrade computes every year. This isnt 1995 you guys. After next gen consoles, needing to upgrade PC has become reaaally slow, since games that come on console, and PC, wont really stretch any boundries since consoles are locked to the hardware that is inside it.

So if you got a computer about as strong/stronger then consoles, you're set as long as that console lives.

The Mac Air is a netbook, and is really only capable at using the internet.

Hmm, let me see, a choice between 720p or 1080p(actual, not upscaled), 30fps or 60fps, being able to cache larger portions of the game into memory or constantly thrashing the cd/harddrive.
Those are just the more obvious reasons I prefer a good pc, and of course anyone wanting to use the DX11 features will need a decent performance level.

This is not knocking the console, just my preference.

If that's true, that's sad, because it STILL has better capacity to do...well, anything, than my current laptop.

I'll probably get a new graphics card right before The Witcher 2 comes out. No need to upgrade for DA2 for me.

Just wondering, who else is using the upcoming release as an excuse to themselvesImage IPB to upgrade? I am!!

going from a core 2 e8400 @3.6 to a core i7 2600k, with an ECS mobo with hydralogix onboard. Also will be adding a second 6870 in cf mode in about a month or so. Ima do an easy OC to 4.5 ghz and call it a day!

Also stoked about a certain Medieval Japan themed RTS coming out about the same time, my other excuse to do it.

My wife is not happy btw lol

Crap! Doesn't look like there was anything wrong with what you had before the upgrade!

I think my Q9650 @ 4Ghz and GTX580 should handle DA2 with relative ease.

Hehehe, I'm pretty sure my current PC can run DA2, but it's not DA2 I'm 'worried' about. The Witcher 2 and DeusEx:HR are coming out...and it'd be nice not to have to drop settings (5-6 yr. old PC, kept alive by a 512MB 8800GT and 2 GB of RAM  )
Hoping to get one of them newfangled multi-core thingymajigs and that Win7 thingy.
And, I guess, an Nvidia GTX 570. :)
And yes, you definitely don't need to upgrade every year (maybe a new component every 2-3 years?  ).

I have a Core 2 Duo E7200 and a GeForce 8800GT. 3GB of RAM. I think I'm fine. This machine maxed out DAO wonderfully. I think it will handle DA2 quite well - though I am thinking about a LGA775 quadcore as a possible upgrade - and a GTX 560 Ti as well...

There wasn't anything wrong with it, it was just getting a bit long in the tooth. all I have to do is buy some memory and a power supply, and I can build a second comp out of it. It does perform nicely with the gtx285 card that I have had for a while

- AMD Phenom II x4 3.0 Ghz (Quad Core)
- ATI Radeon HD 5850 1 GB
- Gskill 8 GB DDR3 (4 x 2 GB)

No need to upgrade, but I thought it was interesting how they listed my exact video card as the DX11 recommendation. I wonder if that means that my card is only just good enough to handle the DX11 effects?

a secondary system that I"m also running an Intel Core i7 950 with the Corsair water cooler, 12 Gigs of Kingston 1333 DDR3, an EVGA/Nvidia GTX 470 (which I'm seriously thinking of SLIing).... and an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard.... On a trade in, I got that setup for 500 bucks. I'd put a rig together for my computer guy and he bought it for me second-hand and gave me credit towards what i wanted.

My case is the CoolerMaster 932 HAF midtower.

A question for all my fellow Forumites... with this kinda setup... is it worth SLI-ing my GTX 470 for $230.00? What are the performance/Spec benefits to SLI-ing that card? Will I notice a difference if I can install DX 11?

OR down the road, should I just buy a single GTX 580? Two 470s or One 580.... that is my question? To SLI the 470.... or buy a single 580.... HMMMM decisions, decisions.... advice would be appreciated

Sincerely EnergizerBunny211

Supposedly my processor isn't fit to play it. But when on the 'can you run it site' it was also the processor that was the problem for Origins, despite being able to play it on max settings with a silky smooth FPS.

I bought a Toshiba Qosmio laptop, had been playing DA:O in my work laptop (HP), which barely made the specs for DA:O and i had to play it on low resolution...and even then it was too much and the game would crash with regularity....and my desktop PC wasn't even able to handle DA:O on lowest rez.....so yeah.

I upgraded.

The Can you Run it site is not very reliable.  What is your processor?
