I just found this very interesting wiki entry:
http://dragonage.wik...native_Approach

It compels me to do a Dwarf Noble 2H Warrior Tank at some point, looks very fun. Given how Dwarves have innate 10% Spell Resist, what gear changes to those given at the end would you guys recommend?

I would probably keep the gear the same, but swap a rune for a paralyse rune or something maybe?

What companions would you use? I think Wynne/Morrigan, Leliana, and either Oghren / Shale / Alistair as an off tank / second tank with a bit of DPS would be good. Or is it better to take the idea at the end and use Alistair for the build himself.

Well my party (when i get my laptop back) is going to consist of PC mage that has some healing/Blood Mage/Entropy spells, Leliana, Sten and Shale. No love for Sten from you? :P

I meant companions would you use given you are a Warden using this strategy.

As for Oghren, he gets one more specialization, is a dwarf, is funnier, and all around better.

okay, well i would use a second warrior to help with the tanking, such as Alastair, however I would go dual wield, then lel as an archer/ranger for the pet dps, and finally a mage for damage/healing. Give Alastair some dex and daggers. This strategy worked well for me in Witch Hunt on hard, with me as a 2hander, the DW woman, yes i know the dog (could use shale in your build too, but i see Lel been the better choice) and the healer. Due to both tanks high dps, and the cc of the 2hander it was plain sailing

Alistair DW sounds so wrong, lol.

So 2H aren't really DPS? Hmm....I sure love Oghren and would be cool with Berserker/Champion and me as Templar/Reaver covering all 4 Warrior specs (not to mention he IS in Awekenings, and I have onely the time to do one full run before DA II)....maybe Shale then....

Yeah 2H are dps, just not as high as duel wielder. They do great damage, can always stun on crits, have moves that always crit - ie always stun, cant be knocked down (ie they can keep dps'ing and laughing while everyone else is sat on their asses), have good health, big armor, and i really enjoyed playing mine (more than my backstabber rogue, which was overpowered and you didnt really have to do anything with) as you have to spam abilities such as sunder arms and armor (get sunder arms straight away, and then go for indomitable, then sunder armour, and stunning blows) Sunder arms and armour critted very often for me, and i was thinking of swapping sword/mace for the DLC axe from doing Witch Hunt on hard/NM, and going for +crit chance/damage gear. So to answer your question yes they are good damage dealers, and very fun to play. BUT they do take a lot of concentration as you have to use their abilities after a swing, as if you are midswing or even right at the end, if you use an ability, and your autoswing hasnt connected it will be immediately stopped.

Anyone know if the Damage benefits from being a Berserker or the Attack/Defense and utility of the Champion are better than the increase in Threaten from the Reaver?

I would go Champ/Reaver, the threaten bonus from reaver is great. Search for Threat in the wiki, its in their somewhere :)

Champ due to increased attack/def and group CC ability, Reaver due to threat increase if you are going to tank, the fact that you get health from what you have killed. Berserker is good for dual-wielders, but 2Handers hit so slow you wont be hitting often enough to see a big increase in Autoswing damage. Unless you were going to go Templar (which tbh makes the game too easy, 100% spell resist makes it a cakewalk) and if you were then its up to you to decide between Champ and Reaver. CC or threat...decisions, decisions

Every class and specialization is better than reaver, however it's maybe useful when soloing

Due to...? You cant just say that and then not back it up lol. The increase in threat is great, getting health back is good, for a 2 hander tanking how is Berserker better?

I was going Templar / X, that is why I went with a Dwarf, hehe. http://social.biowar...dragonage1_xbox
Bad thing about the Champ/Reaver, I don't have either unlocked in my 360 version, unlike Templar and Berserker. I will be past lvl 7 when I reach the point to unlock them. Planned on Templar first, then going with what ever helps most.

Also, found out in the wiki that the Threaten boost is bugged and not working, only the Taunt gets boosted does, and it is only a 33.3%. Looking bad for Reaver...http://dragonage.wik...ning_Appearance

...
Almost all passive abilities as well as talents surpass those offered by Reaver. Talent 3 and 4 are completley useless, while 1 and 2 can be counted as utility talents. Compare them yourself.

I would seriously advise against Berserker for your 2 hander, do you not have another character that you can just run through the Urn, which will get you both? :)

I would go champion if i were you, but 33.3% is still a lot lol, considering that threat goes up to a max of 1000 and taunt does 300 then another 100 from frightening appearance, meaning you are almost half way to max threat with a single move. I would just like to reinforce the point that Berserker is considered the worst for 2 handers due to slow attacks so less damage increase, Finishing blow using up all stam that is *needed* to pump out dps, and not really helping with you wanting to tank.

Hmm interesting, I've got two games going where I'm playing with 2H tanks- one with Sten, Zev, PC mage and Leli/Morrgan/Wynne as the party and just started one with a city elf 2H warrior. My temptation is to go with Champion for Sten and Champion/Templar for my City Elf. Berserker doesn't appeal to me at all, and Death Blow is a really stupid talent to use.

It's really a waste to use an Elf for the purpose of useing 2h, when both Humans and especially Dwarfs are much better in that area.

For both tanking and 2h purposes a dwarf is the best for sure, but I guess everything isn't about haveing the best race, and you can still use any race and still manage.

If it worked as intended I would think berserk would be really good, but I could just imagine that it said that you couldn't be knocked down in berserker mode. Still I like it, and in the other moduls you get the chance of respeccing, so I don't really feel that it mater much, mostly because I have had no problem with beating the game whatever career I have taken, or whatever you want to call it.
