I'm not sure, but the qunari with the horns cut could be a Tal-Vashot. He doesn't have the mark on the chest, while the other three have it.

I think he's a mage. If you look he has his mouth sewn shut and his body is covered in scars from lashes.

You're right. I don't know howewer if every mage qunari will have their horns cut. In some screenshots we saw some qunari in leashes, with the horns. I think they're also mages. Don't know why they have to cut the horns of some mage qunari.

Psychological terrorism? Destroy them, body and mind alike. That kind of stuff.

He probably drinks liquified food through a straw-like implement which is inserted between the stitches.

Ahh that would be unfortunate.

edit: I guess it works well enough though, he's still got them Schwarzenegger muscles.

Indeed, also unfortunate to the handler.  Liquid nutrients based diets tend to lead to gastrointestinal disturbances.

I think the fact that they are on "mage beating duty" is probably bad enough for the fellows. And I wonder how these Qunari Mages will function? And what is going to go on with canons in DA, I mean if we are being actually invaded.

The Qunari don't really have cannons. That was the Chantry mistaking the gastrointestinal disturbances of liquid-fed mages for artillery.

From that last image I'm guessing, from left to right, Grunt, Warrior, Mage and Battlemaster/Chief ?

Male Qunaris look more badass but I actually prefered the more "mundane" look of Sten and the other Qunari mercs you met, still cool though.

As for the females...dem Qunari hips horns.

Still haven't fixed the female qunari though.
Hope they do that before they actually put them in a Dragon Age game.

What is there to fix?

They're too attractive.
From we've heard of qunari society it just doesn't make sense [to me] for them to simply just be tall babes with horns.

I honestly imagined they'd look something like this

Huh, that bit about the qunari adds an odd element to their gender devision. Sten said women are craftsmen, farmers, and priests, which the qunari consider the 'heart and soul' of the socioty. Wheras the men work as soldiers as the 'body'.

Very interesting stuff. That bit about the qunari was particularly cool, and explains why Sten was so quiet.

Qunari society is sexist but not misogynistic.
The females wield quite a lot of power.

I think that just means that those jobs are the only ones women are allowed to perform, not that they were the only ones who did them.  But I can see it being either way.

That sounds like the fairly common male/physical-female/spiritual perception that exists in a number of real world cultures and societies. Also with the standard gendered division of labour where women stayed at home and ran the house (or in this case the internal affairs of the Qun) whereas the men 'go out into the world' as it were. It is an interesting take on such divisions, though, since in thise case the 'home' is an entire nation.

It probably means women make up the majority of the workforce in the country, the butchers, smiths, construction workers.

....that last one gives me the odd mental image of sten walking down the street and getting catcalled by lady qunari. I like this mental image.

I remember Mary saying that the vast majority of jobs are gender exclusive. So it is what they're allowed to perform.

So does that mean the qunari cities are almost all women?

Though I don't think sten listed all of them, it seemed like he just threw out three examples.

Although, it the jobs are all gender exclusive, that means I guess that there are no male qunari craftsmen, farmers, or priests. So all the blacksmiths, carpenters, and snake oil developers are women I guess. It'd be pretty cool to see the kind of stuff they have.

I believe one exception might be the Ben'Hassreth (sp?) - the ones who essentially function as the internal police of the Qunari lands, ensuring everything runs as it should. I think Mary mentioned that ages ago when the redesign first appeared. She also stated that many hornless Qunari are in this group.

But yes, there is a strong gendered division of labour in the Qunari system.

I think that if a child is good at (say) Carpentry it wouldn't matter what gender they are. If a female wants to go into the army or a male wants to go into "teaching" however then they are steered away for their second best option or allowed to function as auxila in that role.

I must admit I am really excited to see/talk to/brutally maim some Qunari. I want to see why they are doing this and their costal cities. Also wondering if (although we aren't getting any Qunari companions) there will be a mission of slave freeing before a big battle and leading the mage qunari into Kirkwall.

How could a male child be good at carpentry if he's never taught to use a saw or hammer?

Because (and this is at a guess) not all Qunari men are in the army. Instead I could well imagine that "teachers" giving them specific lessons or crafts that test all areas of knowledge and ability, and then asigning them a role. Sort of like "career tests" only a bit more formal and a bit less given to turning out things that are completely wrong.

Sten does mention this happening I think. I'll see if I can find the convo.

True, but they probably only let people test for the careers their gender is allowed to be. And since Mary apperantly said most of the jobs are gender exclusive, and since when sten was trying to think of traditional  womens jobs in his culture he came up with craftsmen, little boys may not be allowed to test for jobs like that.

I am not sure if ALL of them are that however. I mean although most Male Qunari could be put into the army I am sure that several can become Kadaan for instance. But it is more likely that all of the Qunari in the "militant" sections are male, but that at least a few of them can become otherwise. Afterall I think Gaider himself said that the Qunari "don't waste resources".
