Not having horns is a warning to most people who'd see them that they are dangerous.

Armass wasn't very dangerous and he was a proud Vashoth.

He is a very giant person, a normal person would be afraid of him. Especially because Chantry teach that Qunari are savage monsters. And I'm assuming that the not-horns = danger things it's more for the Qunaris than other species.

But what about those not born with horns? Like Sten. They are considered special..? And then the Tal Vashoth? They shave the horns off right?

Interesting stuff. So it looks like what we guessed about the blood red symbol, that it could be elven (looks like that beast we fought in WH... forget the name... sleepy) seems to be right. Elven uprising in Kirkwall, verrry interesting.

Armass was a darkspawn collaborator. I'm pretty sure he'd have sold you out in a heartbeat for a few coppers.

I believe it was a Vartarrel, or Varterrel, or something like that. I'll just call it a Strider like the DA2 main page. Much easier to say.

Lore is always welcomed, thanks. During the Arlathvhen, the every ten years meeting of the elvish clans, does all the members of all clans from all Thedas meet or it's just the Keepers of each clan (and maybe the first apprentices)? If the former, how many elves gather each time (more or less), where do they have the meetings, and has there been any organized attack against them (from Orlais, Tevinter, the chantry) at that time? Shouldn't be that easy to hide such gatherings.

Correct. Dangerous... but in a different way.

Some do. It really depends on how defiant and dangerous they feel. Posted Image

Not all clans will make it to an Arlathvhen-- that would be a practical impossibility. But whoever can make it will go. It's like "DalishCon" complete with speaker panels and ancient lore trading cards.

Okay, not quite like that maybe.

It's a big deal, even so. Thousands of Dalish gathered in one place. One supposes that would make them vulnerable to an organized attack, sure, if one cared to take on such a large armed force.

You know, I'm kind of sad that when they talk about the elves, they only talk about the Dalish. The city elves have their own culture that I find really interesting. It makes me think we won't get much time at an alienage this time around (my city elf warden would be saddened)

It's varterral -- but strider is also technically correct, as it's the common name used by people who have seen one and don't have time to go look up the proper name in a book.

"The strider! It's attacking!"
"It's a varterral, you plebian."
"Whatever! It's got big damned legs and it's striding! Run!!"

Well, one of the heraldry pieces posted in the blog is supposedly that of city elves.

Though i hope that's just the symbol used by Kirkwall city elves or smth. Having single mark for all alienages in all cities of all countries across the continent would feel rather weird Posted Image

Or certain enslaved elves... Enfused with lyrium *whistle*

But I have to agree. I would have liked to know more about city elves.

Dalish elves are in the thousands? considering most of them are hunters or warriors that'd be a force to reckon with indeed.

You know, this still doesn't explain why every Qunari we encountered in DAO, including random mercs, traders and Sten's Fade friends were all hornless

Sorry about the pedantism, but I'm really trying to make this 'reasoning-out-the-retcon' thing work in my head, believe me.

As one blog put it, "the warden commander should have just suffered some kind of complicated, highly specific blindness" :D. I wouldn't mind, really. It would sound better.

To stop me from asking? I don't think it would. I'm apologizing for possibly sounding mean, but I'm just unable to resolve this logically.

But whatever. I'll just file it away in my head.

I was starting to think about booth babes and Dalish cosplaying as their favorite gods/historical figures, too... :(

Considering that the sampling of Qunari you saw in Origins was hardly comprehensive, and that this is an art style change among many other changes, I don't think it should be that difficult to wrap one's head around. If it is... well, I certainly don't feel responsible for it. Posted Image

Man, that mage just makes me so sad. He still has the eyes of an intelligent being and I can't even imagine what he must be thinking behind the scars and the stitched mouth. I actually find him kind of intimidating and almost difficult to look at. Moreso than the Arishok, even. Bravo, character designer!

I still wonder how he eats. Maybe they cut the strings each time and then re-stitch him afterward?

Kinda feel like I have to mention this:

I sincerely hope the Qunari mages aren't getting fed through straws or sticking to a liquid diet. I've had my jaws wired together and been forced to do that for two months. Believe me, it is NOT FUN. And definitely not viable as a life-long thing.

Would be very 'sad-puppy-mage' if this were the case.

Also Seanchan! I see you! :P

What's your a'dam equivalent? Why do the Qunari mages obey their masters?

Like I've said before, I don't think the distinction between horned and hornless is really supposed to explain why any of the qunari in Origins look the way they do, except Sten to an extent. But Sten would still look different, and the Tal Vashoth we saw would look a bit different, in the new art style. They added the hornless and horn shavers for the lore's sake, not out of a sense of obligation to visual continuity.

I know, it is kind of interesting though. I wonder if their culture makes them endure that with a different perspective entirely than we as outsiders would think?   Some things that are considered unfair and atrocities to the world may in fact be considered differently by the "victims", rightly or wrongly of course...  Would be very interesting to know their perspective.   I am not suggesting they think its all glitter rainbows and dancing unicorns, but maybe they endure it not as much as victims as we might think.  Perhaps it motivates a survivalist-strength in themselves, could make them formidable opponents if that were the case.

Actually, it is--there are people who have been maimed badly enough that they basically can't eat solid food any more and are permanently stuck with a liquid diet.  But you can drink your nutrition through a straw and still survive just fine.  Heck, one of my nieces had to be fed through a catheter directly into her stomach for about a year, and she's all good.

I agree with wanting to go up and give the Qunari mages a big ol' hug though.  Poor guys.  For that alone (nevermind what they do to all of their OTHER citizens), I plan on knocking their entire "civilization" over and making them cry uncle.  Although I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get to do this in DA2 at least.  Oh well, there's always a later game. :D

Kidding aside I find it hard to believe he manages to have the same rippling muscles as the Arishok there on his all liquid diet. Of course these are all the same base model with clothing swaps, but they're pretty muscled in the screenshots too. Albeit all hunched over and pathetic looking.
