This is probably a very obvious question, but... how do I play Awakening? I bought the UE on Steam, but after beating Origins, I can't start Awakening. I looked at the "Other Campaigns" option on the main menu, I tried clicking "New Game", I tried seeing if it was a different launcher... nothing.

Did you install over an older version of DA?

This link may help: http://social.biowar...8/index/5755406

There are also several other threads dealing with this, so if the above is of no use, I encourage you to search the site.

Good luck, and let us know if you fix it!

Alright, I uninstalled the game, deleted the "Steam\\common\\Dragon Age" and "\\documents\\bioware" directories, purged the registry, completely rebooted the system to take care of any lingering files, and then reinstalled the game from a Steam backup. Nothing.

What exactly am I supposed to see? A little button that says "Play Awakening" in the main menu, or what?

Typically, you'll either select "New Game".  On my (non-Steam) version...  I can also access it under "Other Campaigns".

EDIT:  Also, did you have a previous copy of DA installed when you got Ultimate Edition from Steam?

Nope, nothing there.

Also, I installed the game the first time from Steam, but I think it was corrupted because the config would freeze halfway through, so I reinstalled it about 5 minutes after I first installed it, so that probably is what did it.

You know, I think I vaguely remember seeing something about Awakening from that first install.

I'm pretty sure I've seen some posts where folks have talked about either a registry problem or a corrupted xml file when UE is installed over a previous installation of the game. The answer is somewhere on these forums, I think.

Others have pointed out the best way to search is to use Google, and redirect it to search only these forums using... site:social.bioware.com your search terms

You may also want to search the forums on Steam, since it appears the installer is what gave you a headache to begin with.

If I find anything I'll report back. Do the same if you find a solution? Others will benefit.

Thanks,

RI

AH!  I knew I saw it someplace... it's on the Steam forums:

http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=1677021

Instructions:

1. Go to the dragon age folder:
Example: Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age ultimate edition\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1

2. Inside should be a manifest xml file; you should be able to edit it simply by using any text editor, like notepad for Windows OS.

3. The part we are looking for: <AddInItem UID="DAO_PRC_EP_1"

4. Highlight and copy all the text from Step 3, all the way to
where it says </AddInsList>

5. Go to your BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings folder which by default is found in "My Documents".

6. Inside should be a "Addins.xml".

7. Edit with your favorite text editor.

8. Go down to the bottom all the way until you see </AddInItem>

9. Paste all the info and everything should look good.

10. To make sure everything appears as it should, the part where I told you to look for </AddInItem>,
it should then follow with <AddInItem UID="DAO_PRC_EP_1" , etc, etc... and then at the end of the document
the last two lines SHOULD be this:

    </AddInItem>
</AddInsList>

Alright, I found the folder in settings, but it had none of the data, so I started the game up, started downloading all the DLC, and waited a bit, went back, and it was there. I pasted everything and now Awakening appears in "Other Campaign". So now I just need to wait for all my DLC to redownload and I should be fine.

Thanks.

I'm surprised this isn't stickied if it's so common, just to prevent people like me making a post every few days.

And.... now my DLC isn't downloading anymore. Half of it went fine, but some of it, like all the campaigns, Ostagar, and The Stone Prisoner are all failing.

Great, now it's telling me that I need to purchase all the DLC, none of it's showing up as available/installed. I even deleted the Bioware folder for a fresh start, logged in, and it's still screwing up. You'd think that with all the effort put into making this game, that there would at least be a way to play it.

Nevermind, after the fifth try it worked, and it also appears to have updated my achievements or something.

Sorry I was offline for a while.  Yes, it sometimes takes a while for the program to talk to the EA servers.  Glad to hear it's working!

I'm not trying to necro this thread, but I bought DAUltimate Edition today off DIrect2Drive on sale, and had this very issue, and this solution worked perfectly. After tooling around trying a ton of other suggestions out there, I just thought I'd highlight for anyone searching for a solution with the D2D product that this above absolutely works.

Thanks so much for posting it!

First, posting in an old, dead and completely unrelated thread is bad forum etiquette. There is a "Read First" thread pinned to the top of this forum with directions on posting a problem.

Second, the ultimate edition contains the original game and all of the additional content. Do not install bothe the original game and the UE. To install the UE, simply click on install in the Origins manager. It will do the rest and let you know when it is ready to play. After installation, you can start the game either by clicking play on in Origins or by clicking on the shortcut it installs, either in your "My Games" folder or the main program menu.

Please see the solutions round up thread pinned to the top of this forum. There are several specific linked solutions for the Steam version of Awakenings.

Edited to add link to thread.

Yesterday, I had to completely reformat my hard drive due to a vicious virus. When I began reinstalling all of mm software, Dragon Age Origins being one of them, I noticed that i had to download Origin as my EA Download Manager. Prior to the reinstall I was still using the old one. Since I reinstalle UE DAO, form Origin, Awakening does not appear. I have tried uninstalling and resinstalling UE DAO twice toda and Awakening is still missing. In addition, there is no "AddIns" folder in "C:\\Program Files\\Dragon age\\". Only in the My Documents folder.  Incodentally, I installed the 1.05 BETA patch prior to even starting up DAO or installing the DLC's --following the installation.

That being said, what other solution is there to get Awakening working properly? Thank.

Ps

(This is a terrible inconvenience for a paid product and
certainly goes beyond any sort of forum etiquette. Thank you.)

Solution Requested

As a "d'oh!" check, you are looking for Awakening under the "other campaigns" option, correct? Right above your post is a link to the solutions round up thread. That should be your first stop. You copied Raen's instructions in your post, did you use them? Are you gaming on the same account that you installed the game with? Were you having difficulty with DLC authorization? The 1.05 beta patch is ONLY for DLC authorization issues and should not be applied unless you cannot resolve those issues by other means. It is still in beta because it causes long load times for most people. Finally, there is a read first thread pinned to the top of this forum for a reason. Please see it before asking for more help.
