What are the stat differences between the "junk" and the good kind?

I tried to see what happens w/o paying him and he said it was garbage but they gave it to me anyway , then it did look relativley normal and had no stats but fire resistance

So what happens if you pay the 10 gold?

you have to bring him another set of drake scales and he will make the better armor next time.

Also, if you pay for both sets, he will make a superior version of the Dragonscale armor he makes for you later.

I noticed the junk he gave me though was well



It looked like leather armor



I expected splintmail or scale armor



Does it LOOK better if you do it the best way possible?

Normal wades dragonskin boots +5 fire resist

Superior boots +10 fire resist +0.5 combat stamina regen

Normal chest +25 fire resist

Superior chest +50 fire resist +1 combat stamina regen +25 stamina

Normal gloves +5 fire resist

Superior gloves +1 dex +10 fire resist

Normal Set bonus is a variable -fatigue bonus

Superior set bonus is the same -fatigue and +5 defense



Paying the 10 and 20 coins has no effect on the drake scale armor itself,just the dragon scale.

Base properties between the normal and superior are identical.

If you pay for 1 set of drake scale armor, you still get the superior dragon scale.



In two play throughs, I've not yet managed to find enough drake scales to make 2 sets, so. Yeah.

really? I got enough for both sets entirely from the drakes in the sacred ashes quest line in fact I've still got an extra scale left over. 

Also the set bonus for the superior armor is probably one of the best in the game as it both improves armor and reduces ability costs by a ton.

If you kill the dragon after the guy you get the horn from in the ashes quest, the dragon is supposed to give you some pretty nice scales for better quality armor. Although, the dragon is basically like Flemeth, just a lot harder.

The smith needs three scales for one set. So, if you want the superior one, you need six scales.

When I did the quest I found exactly six scales on these medium drakes, which will assault you in the last parts of the caves there.



I did not kill the big drake yet; probably a third set?

I only found one set of scales in the entire game, in the Sacred ashes areas. I was waiting the rest of the game to find more, but they never turned up

There were 6 drakes in the Sacred Urn tunnel. I made both sets and killed the dragon for the über armor. My pc was untouchable.



I was disappointed how the leather armor looked just like all the other leather armor in the game. I thought it was going to look bad ass.

Yeah, I was at least expecting some purple scalemail or something. You know how Mithril armor works in DnD. Light-but-looks-like-medium.

Or do you have to pay 10 and then 20?



I'm also getting confused because it sounds like theres a set of platemail too or is that not true?

I found the drakescale armor to be completely unimpressive.

I bought the Felon's coat from Wade.  Its WAY better. More armor, +6dex, stam regen, and some other stats.

Did anyone take Dragonskin armor? (When you bring him a Dragonscale, you have the option to go Medium, Heavy, or Massive. It seemed like Superior Drakescale was already pretty darned good, but I used save/reload to compare Heavy and Massive sets.)



And does it matter which dragon you get the scale from?

I've heard you can fight Andraste but I haven't actually figured out how

You kill Kolgrim (the cultist) and he drops a horn you can use to summon the High Dragon.

Or you can simply throw a spell at the dragon to pull him:P Had that horn with me forever before I noticed I was supposed to use it to summon the High dragon.

So can someone give a straight answer without all the confusing bull****.

I KNOW you get Drakescale for 3x scales, then a Superior version for the other 3. But what the hell is all this about superior Dragonscale if you paid for 1 of the Drakescales? What are its stats?
