Hi guys, just thought I'd point out a news feature I've just came across on CVG:

BioWare is currently investigating complaints from a concerning number of Mass Effect 2 PS3 players reporting that their save files have become corrupt.

Skimming over various posts on the official forum, it appears the game crashes unexpected, forcing you to restart the PS3, only to find that your save file has been corrupted and you're unable to continue.

Even more alarming, players report that creating a new save file every time you save doesn't help because when one file is corrupted the lot go with it.

BioWare producer Jesse Houston has posted a request for help tracking down the issue. That post below:

Specifically if you can say:

1> where the crash occurred that caused the save to become corrupt (ie loading from Horrizon to the Normandy or Right after the fight with the Yahg)

2> How many levels in a row you played beforehand (Ie you played through the prologue through to Horizon in a single sitting)

3> How long you were playing concurrently beforehand (ie you had the game running for 40 hours straight without rebooting the console)[/i]

I'm not sure where Mr Houston's post is to reply to. But I thought I'd flag up this hopeful feature.

One thing I can say, if you read this Bioware: It seems that the lockups can happen anywhere and after any amount of time playing, but the issue seems to be easily provoked in the Lair of the Shadow Broker quest.

The reply is in response to numerous problems discussed in this thread.   I strongly encourage people to report this problem if they've encountered it; the more they know the faster we can get a patch (hopefully).

Until then, I'm terrified of playing this game.  Literally terrified.

Ah, I'd seen that thread before and read through most of the posts, seems I missed those replies! sorry for any inconvenience mods!

I am also avoiding the game after playing it obsessively since I bought it. It's very scary stuff. But Bioware clearly do care which is more than I can say about some developers. Thanks fellas!

I have played this game virtually every day since launch on my PS3. Only issue happened today, but not the corrupted data. So, kudos on a good port (for me, anyway) to Bioware

That's the main problem, it's such an amazing game, and I've been a faithfull fan of BioWare for such a long time - But after losing my character, TWICE, because of what is such a rudementry error (all saves in 1 file? Really?!?), I'm rapidly losing faith.

Even treyarchs many many maaaaaaaaaaany screw-ups combined didn't reach the scale of this simple one.

I wouldn't risk playing it, as hard as it is, I've personally been waiting SO long to play this on PS3 (even though I own 360, I still chose to wait, and pay more, to experience it on my main system). How stupid was I? 35 hour career, and 10 hour career (the 2nd career with backups made to PSP memory card) all lost.

Just worth noting, even if you backup your saves on another device, they wont work when you try to put them back on PS3 if the data before was corrupted.

So no, don't risk it if you'd be bummed that you lost it.

Such a shame, amazing game, but totally unplayable. Has to be patched soon, surely, or Mass Effect will become Mass Returns.

I've had the game freeze on me once while loading something during Tali's loyalty mission but the saves were still there. That's the closest call I've had so far but I'm getting pretty terrified, myself.

I, too, haven't had any issues outside the Firewalker missions (color glitch there makes it unplayable), but the save corruption issue certainly weighs heavily on my mind everytime I fire up ME2 for a session.

I sure as heck hope Bioware brings in the big guns on this one. I like what I've seen so far of the ME universe, and would love to keep playing it, including ME3.

I had something similar happen too where the game crashed when trying to load the most recent save of a character, but if I picked the 2nd newest one, it was able to load that just fine.  That's the closest I came as well.

1 suggestion I can offer.  Since the saves are not locked, back them up to someplace else just to make sure that if the worst case does happen, you at least won't lose everything and can restart from said backup.

That's a good recommendation and I plan on doing so before bed tonight but I'm seeing someone else reporting that he/she did so and it didn't load the backup. =/

Careful! 1 of the 2 save files is locked and you need them both to recover your career. Back up isn't a possibility here.

Does the locked file show up as corrupted as well? If not then there's more of a fighting chance.

Well, no by the looks of Fandango's screenshot on the other thread it looks like only the character file gets corrupted:

BUT! If people are saying that backing up and restoring the UNLOCKED file doesn't work, then the problem must spread to both?
