Please use this topic to express your displeasure with their copy protection, but KEEP IT CIVILIZED and don't talk about circumventing copy protection! Stay on topic and let's focus our efforts on making BioWare and EA realize what a horrible mistake they have made.

Doesn't it seem just a bit strange that they have -QUIETLY- announced the DRM scheme just a few days after pre-orders for the Signature Edition can no longer be made? As if they wanted to fool us into pre-ordering a product blindly, without knowing the DRM, and then effectively making us stick with the pre-order (made without knowing the DRM), otherwise the bonuses are lost? That's something to think about.

For those of you who don't know, Dragon Age II goes back to the days of Mass Effect 1, with online activations, authentications, machine limits, and the added "bonus" of requiring you to permanently tie your game to an EA account. What happened with the disc checks from Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins? Were they too comfortable to the paying customers, so you have decided to ignore everything you have learned from the Mass Effect 1 fiasco and throw our opinions out the window?

One last thing. Thanks for "communicating" with us and taking our opinions into account. Great way to treat your paying customers, BioWare! I'm utterly dissapointed and disgusted.

Edit: Changed title to reflect content.

As you have seen from the other topic, BioWare is starting to censor us and mock us for discussing about their apocalyptic DRM scheme which will be used in Dragon Age II.

We're actually fine with someone discussing it, so long as the conversation is kept from descending into pointless flaming and discussions of piracy are avoided. If you want to do that, feel free to do it elsewhere-- some people like to pretend that it's the content of their posts that gets them locked/banned, as opposed to how they go about discussing things. Believe it or not, you have no inherent right here to start fights.

As for being mocked, I suppose I could point out that using words like "apocalyptic" is a bit dramatic. Does that count? ;)

As for everyone else, if you have nothing to contribute to a discussion other than "inb4lock" and calling someone a troll, than I suggest you keep it to yourself.

I have nothing to add about DRM, as it's not a decision I'm involved with. So I'll leave you to it. Play nice.

First of all, thanks for your reply. What I meant by mocking was that an official comes in and posts just to lock a thread, instead of talking to us and giving us details about the DRM. I understand that you are not directly involved, but someone should come and talk to us and take our concerns back to EA and fight for us.

First off, Stan is no more involved with DRM than I am. He isn't going to give details because he doesn't have them. He will, however, lock down a thread where people are breaking the rules. I appreciate your concern, but if you believe breaking out the pitchforks will lead either to a sensible discussion or have us rush to provide details regarding a corporate decision, you're mistaken. These forums are primarily for discussing things with your fellow posters, not for demanding responses from developers.

Asking for it nicely might get you more information-- provided we possess the details you're looking for, and that's information we're at liberty to discuss. Failing that, feel free to PM your community coordinator Victor Wachter. Perhaps he can help you. That's all I can really suggest.

Peace.

Dave is correct. If we have information to give to you, we will give it to you. I have no such information to share.

As a general note, if you notice a thread that you think should be locked, please report it to Moderator. Please do not take it upon yourself to spam the thread in an effort to get it closed. Warnings have been sent. Thank you.

I'm going to put a stop to the burgeoning discussion on what is the right attitude to have towards other people. Bring it back on topic, and if you have nothing to contribute to the discussion then I'd recommend you remove yourself from it.

And why is everyone so mad?

Some people are panicking because how intrusive (or not) the copy protection on the game will be is not clear enough for them. Which is understandable, although with more than a month to go for the game's release I doubt it's panic-worthy. This is not something you need to know by tomorrow.

As I understand it, clarification will be provided as soon as its ready. Considering how eager some people are to misinterpret, it's probably best that the t's are crossed correctly.

Yea cleary drm isn't important in this day and age when companies try to screw people over like they did with Assassins creed 2. The fact that this **** isn't clearly put out anywhere is the fact of you trying to hide it and dissuade people into buying a game under false pretenses.

You misunderstand me. I never meant that DRM is an unimportant issue-- just that it's not vital for you to have it clarified right this second. You're not buying the game tomorrow, after all. That clarification will come soon enough.

Actually, Mr. Gaider, I have already bought the game -- the Signature Edition.  I'm reserving judgement on the DRM until I get more info, but don't you think that I deserved that kind of very basic info right along with, say, the system requirements?  Why should I have already bought the game and not be allowed to see the contract before I put up my money?

Actually, you pre-ordered the game. It hasn't been released yet. And, yes, I do think you deserve that information-- which is why we released it along with the system requirements. What is being asked for, and what will be received, is clarification on what that means (since there are concerns on the interpretation).

Well, you are not really right here. The system specs contained absolutely no trace of DRM info whatsoever. And they were released before january 11 (the limit to order the Signature Edition), while the DRM info was discovered by me and other users who have combed the EULA. There was no official word on the DRM from either EA or BioWare.

Oh? Fair enough. I'd seen it mentioned earlier in this thread that the EULA came out with the specs.

Serves me right to accept second-hand info, I guess. Image IPB

Anyhow, I'm sure the messaging will come shortly enough, and you all can make whatever gesticulations you feel the need to then.

How dare some people form their own opinions and disagree with you, Royas?

I hope to have an update this week - we've had a lot of folks out of the office recently (I was out last week myself), and i want to ensure the info is correct, it is not something we're ignoring.

In the meantime, the drm status is the same as on my original post. There is no securom, but like Origins it is possible some 3rd party digital sites add their own. Check with the site you intend to buy from to be sure - but definitely won't be on Steam or EA Store, or retail disc.

There is no drm on the demo.

The system we use is not the same as the dlc system from Origins.
