Please use this topic to express your displeasure with their copy protection, but KEEP IT CIVILIZED and don't talk about circumventing copy protection! Stay on topic and let's focus our efforts on making BioWare and EA realize what a horrible mistake they have made.

Doesn't it seem just a bit strange that they have -QUIETLY- announced the DRM scheme just a few days after pre-orders for the Signature Edition can no longer be made? As if they wanted to fool us into pre-ordering a product blindly, without knowing the DRM, and then effectively making us stick with the pre-order (made without knowing the DRM), otherwise the bonuses are lost? That's something to think about.

For those of you who don't know, Dragon Age II goes back to the days of Mass Effect 1, with online activations, authentications, machine limits, and the added "bonus" of requiring you to permanently tie your game to an EA account. What happened with the disc checks from Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins? Were they too comfortable to the paying customers, so you have decided to ignore everything you have learned from the Mass Effect 1 fiasco and throw our opinions out the window?

One last thing. Thanks for "communicating" with us and taking our opinions into account. Great way to treat your paying customers, BioWare! I'm utterly dissapointed and disgusted.

Edit: Changed title to reflect content.

You already have an ea account, what are you complaining about?

As you have seen from the other topic, BioWare is starting to censor us and mock us for discussing about their apocalyptic DRM scheme which will be used in Dragon Age II.

No, they are preventing discussion on ways of bypassing the copy protection. Not preventing discussion of the DRM.

Here I am!

Am I too late? No? Okay. Good.

Anyhow, OP, you can cancel your pre-order at any time. You might lose a $5 down deposit, you might not. You could also move it elsewhere, in some situations.

So. No. It's not suspicious.

BDF...away!

That's not the point. Why go back to a catastrophic DRM when Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins had much friendlier DRM?

Why should I be at the mercy of some servers halfway around the globe to play my game?

Just look at what happened to Dead Space 2 users who couldn't play the game, because EA's "proffessional" servers refused to authenticate their keys. Does this seem like a proper way to treat your paying customers, while pirates never have these issues and get a superior version?

Since these are misleading, let me specificy precisely what each thing means based on what we know:

1) Online activations/Authentication: We aren't sure how precisely this will work. What we know right now is that the DRM species that DA2 can only be simulatenusly active on 5 Pcs with one CD key, which we assume means an initial online activation and arguably "phoning home" each time the game starts.

2) Machine limits: There is no machine limit like ME1. You cannot have one activated copy of the game running on more than 5 Pcs in 24hrs, but there is no install limit as far as we know.

3) EA accounts: The Bioware social site account is your EA account and likely the EA account that they want to use for your activation. This was required for any DLC or any bonus; so it is incoherent to rant against an EA account while simulatenously asking for any pre-order bonuses or DLC as different from DA:O since this is what happened in DA:O.

I don't really care about this. Whatever DRM they settle on will be cracked within days, if not before the game's release date.

It doesn't seem like draconian DRM to me, but to be fair, I think all DRM measures in DA2 should be posted on the site, so there isn't any ambiguity on the topic.

Maybe there is and I've missed it.

Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean you can come and troll in my topic. If you have nothing useful to add then just do not post.

It's one thing to need an EA account for DLC and an entire other thing to require it for the full game. Because with Dragon Age Origins I can install the game on any number of PCs without having to log in into their stupid account.

How many computers do you have?

That's only if you want to play DLC, right? Just like Origins.

1. Not. Because you didn't have to go online at all to play the main game or install it.

2. Nope. It's for the full game, not just DLC.

I don't really care. It's their game so they can use any DRM technology they goddamned want!

Sorry, but I'm going to shut down this discussion now, as there's far too much discussion of circumventing copy protection and going off-topic.

That's why the other thread was shut down

If the drm is the worst thing that you can find to whine about, which doesnt affect gameplay in any way, then I am in for a fun time with this game.

Is that VB, or have I suddenly forgotten everything about it?

Dragon Age toolset, thought it was appropriate. ;)

But you can't access DLC or pre-order/bonus content. Since you mentioned that EA was being unfair to consumers by posting DRM information after the deadline for bonus content, I felt it was important to point out this was not something that could matter to a user who was going to access that content.

As of right now, the difference is the apparent constant need for online connectivity each time you want to start the game, which so far is the only explanation anyone has been able to suggest for how you could limit the game to 5 PCs in 24 hrs.
