So it reads like they've officially put in a system that violates our right of first sale and can interfere with other programs on our system if they could "potentially" be used to crack their DRM. That's very, very disappointing and very far from the sort of thing I'm willing to put up with, if my reading of this proves correct.

Since we haven't had any updates, it's probable that they did indeed go with the system that they announced.  I won't cancel my pre-order, but I probably won't be using the official executable when I play, either.

It's reasons like this why GOG is getting a lot of hype.

It's hard to take a post written by someone about DRM seriously when they have no games registered to their account.

But I made two accounts...
I played my friend's game...
Etc, etc.

Right.

Yeah it is except publishers and developers are not exactly running to that service to sell. No current EA game is on that service.

Of course they aren't, it is a radical concept. It is heresy.

But it is a sad day when someone who bought a legal game has to resort to using a questionable file to even allow them the pleasure of playing the game they paid for.

I agree this industry needs to find other ways to hinder piracy not punish the actual consumers.

The PS3 is the DRM...

For all you console folks, this is purely a PC issue.

I saw today that you can unban yourself now from PSN even. I gotta say, I do quite enjoy watching the cat and mouse game.

It truly is.  On top of that, both the music industry and gaming industry still makes loads of money.  Obviously, the paying customers who chose to do the right thing far outweigh the "pirates".  I see it as just more greed.

GoG has the right idea, the right philosophy. Hopefully they can thrive in what is a very pessimistic and selfish industry.

I'm pretty sure CD Projekt has said they will hunt down anyone who pirates TW2. Blizzard is not afraid to sue individuals but they have the resources to. But I'm hoping the no DRM has the opposite effect and increases sales.

2 different type of RPGs.  Its like comparing Bioware games to Bathesda games. If you like no character development and a story about one person, sure get Witcher 2. But if you like micro management with party banter with up to 4 party members go for Dragon AGe.

I wonder to what extant they will actually pursue pirates. My personal opinion is that they have a realisitc attitiude toward piracy, which was formed by the region they come from.

I think the recent development of offenders recieving warnings from providers is far more effective than crazy law suits or unfair DRM: stop pirating, or we cut off your internet access. The more accurately they can track pirates, the better this scenario works.

Edit: and please for the love of god don't turn this into another vs. thread, people.

( not directed at you Erich)
