I was just wondering a while back if Bioware could somehow incoperate a some sort of vowel or speaking system in which our companions could say our name instead of "Hawke". I know way back when I played "The Movies" it did it, and holy lord, how I was suprised. At the part were the award host was handing out awards to the studio's she would actually SAY my custom typed-in Studio name! It sounded natural too, no "Narrator" sounding effects! I did it again, thinking I was hearing things, but no, once again, she said "Gadget Sun Studios" and again after with "Bright Idea Pictures"!

I like being called by my first name, using the last name like "Hawke" or "Shepard" slighty generalizes my character, even if I have green eyes and 2 feet of flowing hair.

Though I realize the likily hood of this is slim, due to some complications with Voice Acting.. but I'm still hoping it will happen! -crosses fingers-

That'd sound very strange, i think, and the more complex the name, the stranger it would sound. Certainly, the system wouldn't know which syllable to emphasize, so you might end up with phiLIP or aLEXander, or a pronunciation you're not happy with, like 'nath-an' rather than Nathan. There's a reason games don't normally have voice systems like this, and usually rely on pregenerated names instead.

Also, please remember that not everyone is going to name their character Mike or York or Herc or Zelda or Kellestire or Faux. With a system like this, people would definitely be using their creativity for evil. And I'm against that. :)

You could just enter your preferred pronunciation using IPA symbols. I'm sure Bethesda is working on just such a system as we speak!

You realize, of course, that 3 people understood what you just said, let alone what sounds the symbols represent.
