If they did that one would hope the "insert name" tab would have a "preview" option where Hawke would say his own first name, so you can hear how it sounds. Maybe even an advanced tab to set how it's pronounced separately from how it's spelled, using some kind of user-friendly pronunciation system.

That's a great idea. I've often thought of this and wondered "Why doesn't Bioware do what it does with facial customization, with voices?

You could just enter your preferred pronunciation using IPA symbols. I'm sure Bethesda is working on just such a system as we speak!

You realize, of course, that 3 people understood what you just said, let alone what sounds the symbols represent.

Well there goes my plan to name my character Uvelia just to have the game say a liquid U ::sniffles::

it was easier than in Dragon Age. you needed only one tone, one kind of expression and, of course, only one screen where it happens.
I remember it too, it was funny... And the winner is... ''Wiseau Films !'' Posted Image

but about voice customisation. I think we should be able, for the DA3, to change our voice at will like ''MySims''. I know this game stinks but the Character's voice customization was complete, simple and awesome ! And it's f'kin Audacity !!!

EA does it well for Madden, so it's possible.

I hope they can come up with an alternate name for female players. Being called "Hawke" just doesn't sound right if you're a girl. I didn't like being called "Shephard" in ME, so maybe female players could be called miss, or ma'am, or lady. Just something other than Hawke.

Is it only me? or are random npc's in kirkwall calling me by my first name? my champions name is Sarah (pretty general) and every time i pass by a random npc they're like "Good morning Sarah!" though they pronounce it more like Serrah. Even during a dialogue scene a templar told me "This does not concern you Sarah!" im probably getting high off this game, but its what i started to notice

yah, no.

how many different characters with DIFFERENT voice actors say it. How would this thing mimic Merril's voice or Anders or anyone elses?

So sure it could be done if you wanted only 1 or 2 COMPUTER generated voices speaking your name..no companions or anyone with a real LIVING voice actor would do it.

let's think before we ask for things.

My character's name is Sarah and I get called "Serrah"

If there are any females out there who get the same thing and your name isn't Sarah, let me know. For a moment I thought I was on crack.

If the characters ever used our first names, it would be because they were set in stone.

stop giving them more ideas on how to remove features and "evolve" the genre. They've "evolved" it enough already I think...

That's the "dark" side of voice acting.

Voice acting is cool and all, provide cinematic feel and can with good actors move you more than text but on the other hand it prevents improvisation (like using a customized name in game) and the cost of each line puts a heavy weight on creative possibilities add actor's schedule and it makes it that much harder to make DLCs using big characters from the original game.

I'm glad the characters talks now but I do miss the text based era's freedom.

I have to go with Stanley Woo on this one....
Could you imagine the Youtube videos that would be created with something like this?

*Shudder*

If you thought the Qibb Qibb name conversation from Mass Effect 2 was slightly uncomfortable...
Imagine... never mind don't imagine it.... I just did and I think I'll be having nightmares for a while.
