Nightmare, I like a challenge as much as I like the story. That being said, I'm not expecting anything excruciatingly difficult, bioware games are faily tame in that regard.

No difficulty harder than Nightmare? I found Nightmare too easy in DA:O, I hope DA2 provides some challenge.

Normal and get pissed off every time there should be friendly fire. I couldn't stand to go up to Nightmare hack-a-thons.

like Origins, the first setting that has FF, in this case nightmare. I still can't believe that they took out the FF from Hard. what's the use in micromanaging a mage if there is no FF?

NIghtmare for sure. Coming from playing DA:O with mods that made the game much harder, I suspect that anything less than Nightmare will be a bit dull. Unless AoE spells have been really toned down, it's hard to see how the game could be all that challening on dificulties below Nightmare (unless you don't have a mage in your party).

Well, if they removed the spell Mana Clash, it might actually make the game so much harder. haha.

I usually play normal first as that is what I consider is the intended difficulty of a game from a design standpoint. (sometimes its true, many times it is not). Then I'll probably switch to Nightmare just for the fun of dealing with Friendly Fire.

I'll start with Nightmare then play with any setting after the 3rd playthrough... Unless nightmare is actually difficult and not as easy as it was in DA:O

Playing at higher difficulties just to make the game more difficult has never appealed to me. I never played DAO on Nightmare, and I was never tempted to do so.

I played on Hard, because I wanted equitable Friendly Fire rules.

To get those game rules in DA2, I need to play on Nightmare. So I will. I'll approach this game like I have any oither in the past - I'll choose the difficulty setting that offers the specific rules I want, and then I'll roleplay through the game paying no metagame heed to how optimal my builds are.

Will DA2 be playable like that? I'll find out.

I'll probably start with normal, but if it shows to be too easy I'll switch it up. Or maybe I'll even try Nigthmare. I'm playing through Awakening for the first time (I know, I'm retardely late) and it's a piece of cake on Nightmare so far.

But on the other hand... I'll probably chicken out on DA2. Don't want no Game Over screens*50 when I just want to play through the story.

I'm not sure. I want FF but I have a bad feeling the game has not really been designed with FF in mind. It might turn out that AOE effects are all useless on nightmare because enemies close too quickly and the abilities were never balanced for it. I don't really want to get bogged down when I first start playing but at the same time I don't want to be able to simply spam fireballs.

I start with Casual, as I play for the story. On later playthroughs I'll start ramping up the difficulty.

Since I want friendly fire, Nightmare.

They should've made friendly fire a toggled option in the menu for all sub-Nightmare difficulty levels and just made it mandatory for Nightmare.

I usually only play it on casual. Not because I'm not a huge fan (I am a huge fan), but because I don't want video games to stress me out. I play video games to AVOID stress, and if I'm playing on "nightmare"...

...well the name is stressful in itself.

So, I'll be taking it easy.

Exactly the same thing here.

Probably hard for the first hour to get a feel of what`s different in gameplay than switch it up to nightmare.

First play through easy cause i just wanna take a look around ya know. The rest will be on hard/nightmare for the challenge. But my first play through is always just to see what the game is, i usually dont even get too attacked to my character first play through. .

Hard for my own satisfaction. Nightmare since I'm a sucker for achievements, if one exists as it did for ME2.

I'll have to make a game-time decision, I normally start on normal, but if they're dumbing-down the difficulty, I dont want it to be too easy, so I might start on hard. I suppose Id 'consider' starting on nightmare, just because its the only one with friendly fire, but I imagine that might be too hard for a first playthrough, besides you gotta figure that there will be a mod fairly quickly to turn ff back on for 'hard', which would make hard that much harder. So maybe hard first playthrough, hard with a ff mod second playthrough, then nightmare. But I reckon we'll hear more about how difficult each setting really is from the reviewers and such before the game comes out, that'll help me make my decision also.

Yes, but if pre-DA:O release is any indication, developers tend to exeaggerate the difficulty of each setting. Nightmare on DA:O turned out to be what I'd expect from Hard.

If DA2 is anything like Awakening, I don't think it will matter what difficulty one plays at.

I'll probably go for Easy or Normal for my first playthrough. I did the Nightmare playthrough in Origins and didn't find it particularly enjoyable. Because of the sheer amount of filler combat, poor placement, and just the same ole enemies time and time again, it became boring to have to constantly watch, position, and so forth.

Though I suppose it'll be interesting to see how the new classes work together. I wonder how badly BioWare nerfed the mages, too...

I always do Casual. I only really care about the story. That, and I don't feel like getting frustrated because I keep on dying :)

I played casual on Origins, but I might move up to normal or maybe even hard, what with the new tactical options we console players are getting.
