Probably Easy/Casual. Higher difficulty settings in more recent Bioware games aren't especially challenging intellectually, they're just a lot of work. I don't need that.

My day job (cell biology) involves enough tedious repetition of experiments and frustrating problem solving that I really don't need it from any games I play. Though I do love the rare games that make you think without making it feel like work...

First playthrough - Normal.<br />

Later ones - Hard.

+1

I just don't see the point of making the game so hard on the first playthrough. I'll do what I did in Origins; play through a few times on Normal, then move up to hard, and if I'm really bored, take it to nightmare.

First playthrough is Easy, since I really only care about story and characters. If it's childishly simple, I might turn it up to Normal. After that, it depends on how much I like combat.

^ This.

I remember once going through half of an entire playthrough of Origins on Nightmare by complete accident once though.

I think i'll begin with nightmare as it seems to be the only mode with ff enabled.

The story and characters interest me most of all... but I think the strategy bug has bitten me. (If you're watching, Gabe, I blame you! *cheeky grin*) DAO annoyed me a bit with the difficulty curve, esp. in the Korcari Wilds (I played the game unpatched first) until I got used to the system. Later on I was a bit annoyed that Nightmare wasn't harder, because why was I so shy of trying it all that time if it wasn't all that much worse?

I never died once on the demo as any class, and I found managing my party to be fun, so I'm leaning towards Hard. I think I can take it and enjoy it. If I feel like I'm doing well I might even try Nightmare.

This is something I basically never do, but I feel like it will increase my appreciation of the playthrough if I have to think like my character in every battle. I plan to imagine that keeping my teammates alive is something that my character thinks about very hard because she cares. Because she thinks if she'd been better at coordinating tactics, that maybe a few more people would've remained alive along the way. So I want the game to push me into thinking that way. This is why Nightmare tempts me, although that may be too much at first.

Probably gonna start on hard and transition over to nightmare if it's too easy.

Have no idea how people can skip battles for the 'story.' Read a good book, the story will be infinitely better.

Books aren't interactive, my friend. Besides, what if DG is your favorite author?

Nightmare definitely. I hope it will be harder than in DAO.

I play every game on normal the first time through to "test the waters". If a game is worth playing again I often upgrade to hard. I never play any game on casual.

Nightmare for friendly fire. Even hard will probably be a little too easy.

Pretty much always play a new game on the difficulty setting just below the hardest one. So Hard for me for the first time.

Allows the game to put up a decent fight without it being tedious like most "really hard" settings are.

If hard turns out to be too easy I can just bump it up to nightmare.

I plan on going nightmare first for a couple reasons...
1. I like the tactics involved in Nightmare, having to control everyone/be conscious of friendly fire

2. Origins was like my new favorite game, I love this series, for some that may make them want to rush through the story, but I want to prolong the story as best I can and make it even more rewarding when I do get to the end... even if going nightmare doesn't prolong it very much... the more the better unless it became totally unbeatable.

Either Normal or hard for the first playthrough, then night mare for subsequent ones. I don't play games for the challenges, i play for the story and characters. If a game is so hard that I stop enjoying it, whats the point of playing?

Nightmare all the way.

I would play Insane if there is even such a mode.

Overcoming tough challenges with good play and tactics is where all the fun is.

Not to mention that friendly fire is only available on Nightmare. And the other difficulty settings aren't going to be that hard now that the game is basically an Action RPG.

Nightmare, since I'll probably play once and will feel empty if its not in the hardest setting =D

Most likely Hard, not sure if I could handle Nightmare with the removal of tactical view. Without being able to view the entire battlefield and place my characters/spells with precision I don't think I could handle it.

I'm a firm believer in the casual setting, though lately I've been giving normal a spin just out of curiosity. I've only had to turn it back down to casual for one boss fight so far, so I was pretty happy about that. I do die more often though.

I miss DAO's lack of cool downs on potion use and generosity of loot. DA2 is so stingy on loot.

I see Zelda has been playing on the difficulty setting that allows necromancy.

I started DAO on Normal and then switched to Hard about two-thirds of the way through when I noticed the fights were getting a tad easy.

On DA2, I played on Hard all the way through.
