I'm sorry if this has already been covered but I recently purchased the Ultimate Edition on PC (have the PS3 version but wanted to play around with the toolset).
Is there a way to enable your PC to lip-sync the responses you choose for them? I was wanting to record my game, edit it in a movie making program, showcasing the story I chose to play, with the PC lip-syncing her dialog.
Someone on youtube made a clone of his PC, and then apparently added this clone as an extra party member but I have no idea how to do that. (of course after learning to actually use the toolset I may be able to manage it).
I would love to have a friend of mine (an aspiring actress at Uni) record the voice over (which I would match to my PC with my video editing program), but is this possible to do while playing the game?
I will be using Fraps to record my game so I would love to just have my PC lip-sync as I go... if possible. :/
Is there a way to add lip sync to your PC responses?

heyas;
if youre ONLY interested in making cutscenes/machinima and recording with fraps (etc), sure.
you can't add facefx/vo/lipsynch to ANY of the player lines. (sucks, doesn't it?) you can only create vo for OWNER lines. so you need a custom conversation where you type in all the pc's lines you want to use, have your friend do the vo, generate the lipsynch and basic facefx, tweak any you need to, and then use that in a cutscene with your character speaking the lines.
getting your character into the cutscene is easy: you make a stand-in actor/actress, then use the mapping tag set to "player". load your character from a saved game, run the cutscene, and you're in.
problem: you can't port the main game dialogue files and lipsynch and wav files and keep everything together. you can shoot the npc dialogue from the game, then splice in your character doing her lines.
you want to do it during the game? mmmm.... no. like i say, it's impossible to even TRY to assign vo/facefx to the pc lines.
i'd like to hear more about cloning his pc that this guy did, if you remember and/or have a link? i built a MOR file to look like my character to create his cutscene stand-in, but it isn't exact.
ps: for more details on doing all that stuff, check the links in my sig, i've made some tutorials.

Hey, thank you so much for your reply. I'm having a lot of herp derp moments when trying to use the toolset so I will definitely check out your links. What I'm trying to get my head around is how to get or match my character to the cutscenes from the game, to have her standing against the correct back drop so to speak, and also how to even make a stand in actor/actress. I don't really understand how all of this works but I'm keen to learn. This is the cloning thing I was referring to.

heyas;
look at the VO tutorial -- especially at the end, it has extra stuff telling how you can get areas and characters from the sp game into your cutscene mod. you can also duplicate cutscenes and stages, but that gets a little hairier.
also, i just made a video for my friend who also hasn't cracked the toolset open yet. it's a real fast run-through of where everything is in the toolset, that you need to find to follow the last part of the VO tutorial. (it still needs part 2, where i explain the scripts and module stuff. hopefully i'll do that this weekend.)
http://www.youtube.c...er/Bloodsong13T
also, you should go to the builder wiki...
http://social.biowar...x.php/Tutorials
and go through the intro, module, area, conversation, and cutscene tutorials -- in that order.
that should give you the basic working handle on assembling cutscenes. the finesse and artistry, that comes after.
interesting... we should tie down this ardak person and make them tell us about this cloning and pc lipsyching... in more detail.
it seems to me, it would be possible to create an npc of your pc (or anyone, really), make them into a companion, then insert all the pc lines as voiced OWNER lines for each branch of the conversation. (that is, your pc would pick a line to say, then the camera would cut to an npc line showing the clone npc saying it.) but that seems.... an insanely huge game-reconstructing task. !!
also, do you have in mind a scene you want to do to start? i could look at it and see what finessing it would need to be duplicated from the SP campaign, and give you some instructions.

If you were sauce, you would be AWESOME SAUCE!!! You have been incredibly helpful and I am looking forward to learning how to use the toolset.
In regards to the ardak person, I'll get the duct tape if you provide the hired goons... I too would love to know his/her technique in more detail.
I'm going to spend some time working through the tutorials and come back when I actually know what I'm doing.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.

Hey, I've been playing around with the toolset and watching/reading tutorials. I don't think I'd be able to do what I would like, as in actually have my pc placed in cutscenes (which I would probaly have to replicate and sort out the camera angle) for every cutscene or dialog part in the game. Would probably take forever... unless I can add her as a npc... for which I'm not even entirely sure how to do that yet... still getting my head around the basics. Just wish there was a way to change the scripting or add a script that makes the camera look at the pc and have it lip sync to the dialog. I think my understanding of the toolset was pretty miminal when considering this project in the first place.
P.S. I think I forgot to mention that I only want to lip sync a chosen response, not all of them. I don't want my friend to have to do the voice overs for every dialog response, just ones that I would need to edit together to make a little movie (ok rather large... since its the whole game minus most combat/running around like an idiot). Either way... I don't think it's possible for me to do what I would like to do.
P.S.S (I keep thinking about this... it's a bit hard for me to let go
OOOOOOKKKAAAYYY.... I may be kind of able to do this but it will take time... coffee... and a bucket full of insanity. I've already being recording my gameplay in fraps. So what I may be able to do is:
Write down every response I get my PC to make and pay attention to the general position of where my pc would be standing in that stage
Create a conversation where the creature has my character model and position the creature and camera so that it would hopefully match the general spot where my character was standing during gameplay.
Script the creature (aka my pc) to lip sync the dialog I chose it to respond with
Use fraps or something similar to record it and then splice the footage into my movie with the gameplay footage I have recorded.
...
I'm thinking it would take a very, very, very long time but it might mean I can utilise the toolset in the manner which I had hoped to.

yeah.... i think that's what i meant. or one of the things i meant.
but you don't have to create an npc that is modelled after your character. you can just use a stand-in, and have it replaced with the player at game time.
here's something you might try....
take a chapter/locale to work on. let's say ostagar day, for example.
1: write down your lines you choose (or how you would REALLY like to say them), for all the conversations you have in ostagar.
2: have your friend voice act them and send you the wav files. (remember to convert them to the proper format, if necessary.)
3: create a new module, create a new area -- have it use the ostagar layout.
4: create a conversation file where all your pc lines are OWNER lines in it. save to get the ids, and do that whole routine to generate the VO and FFX. 95 times out of 100, that will give you a performance that is good enough. and it doesn't take very long at all.
5: create a cutscene, takes place in ostagar, paint down your stand-in character (it's best if it is the same race/gender as your pc). grab the character and camera and put them in the particular places where you say your lines.
5a: if you need the npcs in the shot, duplicate them from the sp campaign to paint in. this is pretty easy, really. don't have them do any lines, though.
6: run your module, import your pc (make sure you're dressed appropriately for the scenes you are doing), run the cutscene. your pc will do all the lines -- including the lipsynching you made.
7: splice in your video editor.
you dont really need scripting to do any of this. just to import your character and start the cutscene (and you can utilize my scripts, in my signature.)
you could also create a stage (or stages) that has common camera settings. a heck of a lot of conversation lines use the 'over the shoulder' shot. then you just pop your stand-in and the npc duplicate into the stage, and haul the stage around the level, wherever you need it. (i've only once touched stages, and it was a disaster, so i'm not really the expert in how to create and use them, though :/ )
