I've got these boots of tumbling which give +10 bonus to Tumble skill. Now according to the skill description, every 5 ranks in Tumble is supposed to give +1 to AC, so these boots should give me a +2. But when I put them on, my AC doesn't change.

Any idea why is that?

Thanks,

EDIT:

I have a second unrelated question, but instead of double posting, I thought I'll just add it here. Also AC relataed. Basically, I took the feat Dodge, and my AC hasn't changed either. Any idea why?

Thanks again.

The AC bonus is gained by ranks allocated to Tumble, not by any enhancements by items or Dex modifier. Increasing Tumble in those ways only increases the possibility of a successful Tumble check during combat.

"The character gains a +1 dodge bonus to his AC against attacks from his current target or last attacker."

Check your combat log.  It will appear incrementing AC during combat (if you do the math).

Ah, gotcha. So the boots are not as useful as I thought they'd be.

"The character gains a +1 dodge bonus to his AC against attacks from his current target or last attacker."

OK, I see. But then, can someone explain the "from his current target or last attacker"  part? It seems redundant info, because anyone attacking me will be my last attacker... Why didn't they just write "gains +1 to AC".

Or does this mean that if for example 4 enemies are attacking me, I'll get the +1 bonus to AC only against one of them?

Thanks,

Yes, for a normal attack.  You've got it now. ;)  However, the PC may get the Dodge benefits on multiple targets when attacking with Great Cleave or Whirlwind.  Easy enough to test.... play and check the log.

Here is an interesting discussion of exactly this feat-related dynamic on Dodge.

Dodge (and mobility) are somewhat underated (maybe) , depends who you know of course *grin* ...

Certain builds benefit incredibly from them even if you do have 15 tumble or will regularly get surrounded by enemies.

have fun :)
