I was just looking at my (admittedly uncorrupted) save game folder on a PC (Imported using a flash drive) and I noticed that all the saves are represented here:

AUTO
CHAPTER (which I'm guessing is the 'restart mission' save)
and
SAVE006 (I am on my 6th save so this adds up).
as well as some other official PS3 files like PARAM and the icon.

If you can remember which one is corrupted, (did it happen when autosaving, manual saving or chapter saving?) try and delete that file from the folder, then replace the corrupted one on your PS3 with the new edited one.

Don't delete the profile (locked) save, leave that in as it doesn't look corrupted,

See if that works, fingers crossed!

I've wrote the whole thing step by step below

Step 1: Copy the corrupted Character file (the one that isn't locked) onto a USB drive

Step 2: Connect the drive to your PC (Copy it over twice just in case this doesn't work)

Step 3: Browse through the PS3 -> SAVEDATA -> BLESetc folders to reach the files within

Step 4: Find which item you think MAY be the corrupted one, probably AUTO. Delete this and put the folder system back on your thumb drive.

Step 5: Delete the original corrupt character file from your PS3 (we still have this on your PC as I told you to copy it over twice earlier, so don't worry) and replace it with the new edited version. (DON'T touch the profile file, this doesn't look corrupted).

Step 6: Fire up Mass Effect 2 and hopefully, all your saves should be present (with the exception of the autosave)

As far as I'm aware (and I'll double check in a minute) you cannot copy/move a corrupted file.
Yup, double checked, cannot copy corrupted files from a PS3, and the point is moot if you use a file copied before corruption as the corrupted portion won't be present.

What is the extension of the actual saves themselves, if you don't mind me asking? For instance, the Mass Effect 2 PC saves are .pcsav, while the Xbox 360 ones are saved as .xbsav. I'm assuming it's like .pssav or something?

theres seems to be something holding EVERY solution to this back. I bought ME2 on launch day thinking I'd have a whole week off to play it this week, no such luck this is a real pain in the backside

I hear ya, I've been spending the last day and a half trying everything I can think of to fix it, or find a surefire way that prevents it, I've ever gone and bought ANOTHER copy of the game to see if that somehow helps.
Nothing has helped in the slightest yet.
Good idea in theory though man.

They come in a folder of quite a few, the actual save files are untagged, they are just labelled as 'file'. Other files in the folder are PS3 system files saved with every savegame, these are .PFD and .SFO files

Do you have windows configured to actually display file extensions? I don't think it's enabled by default.

I checked the properties of the file, its just lised as Type: File.

The icon for it is also blank

Could you perhaps take a screenshot of how the files are saved onto the memory stick when they are transferred? I only ask because this could lead to the import of saves from other platforms onto the PS3.

Sure but there are more pressing issues at hand

Interesting......

The save structure is similar that of the Xbox 360, but it's not saved in a content package. I'll have to look into this further. Thanks for the screen shot by the way.
