While I wouldn't say they were bad in ME1, they are much better in ME2. Infiltrator with a Widow making headshots is pure awesome and fun, even on higher difficulties.

With the right ammo type, full assassination talent, and a widow sniper rifle, the only thing that can take more than one hit of that would be a collosus or geth prime. So yes, they're good.

Yeah, Sniper Rifles controls are pretty clunky in ME1 and consequently, Infiltrator is a pretty boring class in ME1.

ME2 controls however are very fluid compared to it's predecessor and sniping is actually fun. Also, the Infiltrator's special power, "Tactical Cloak", is very useful and fun to use as well. The infiltrator class along with every other class in ME2 feels and plays out completely different than in ME1.

the "infiltrator" class is terrible compared to an equally levelled solider with AB and a sniper rifle mostly because AB is overpowered.

I love using the sniper rifle in ME2. Even as an Adept, I find they are a real help in many situations.

 No OP.

They're horrible.

You can't even zoom in and out.

I actually made myself play ME1 as a Infiltrator. The sniper rifle is much better than I thought it would be. It wobbles to start with and is then completely stable, unlike most games where the wobble is constant. There are some places where it is utterly useless (The Thorian) and some where it is very good (Ilos). In ME2 I like the Viper sniper rifle for a soldier.

The Widow is awesome, although I miss sitting on a hill on an uncharted planet and putting a round through some mercs head a mile away.

Oh yeah.

If you wanna use the sniper rifles I suggest you get your self a widow and max out AR.
Snipers are only good for high dmg/high accuracy.

They feel more like a heavy weapon than a sniper.

You know, if you put points into it, the sniper rifle stablized instantly in ME1. Just like every other weapon became more accurate the more you specialized in it.

Sniper is God.

Especially in ME1, oh, the fun you can have with weapon mods!

Except it destroys immersion, as a trained Marine should know how to fire his gun.

Much improved. Really you have to try them. I would try infiltrator first though. The slow down effect they have really helps when aiming.

I'm playing a sentinel in ME1 now, and the sniper is pretty useless. I tend to use more my spectre pistol than anything.

In ME2, however, the controls are very different, and much more friendly. I even got the sniper while playing an engineer in ME2. It was awesome.

it's a shame you can't put HE rounds in it anymore. I miss firing one shot and seeing 4 salarians fly backwards in flames

The only problem with the Sniper Rifle in ME2 is that it might be too good. Three Widow shots can take out a scion.

Trick is in ME 1 is to fill out the points for the skill set. . . But, if memory serves me right, you have to go though one playthough with either solder or infiltrator and fully fill out the related sniper skill set. . . Then when you renew to different class for a replay you can pull over that skill as a bonus.

Sniping was quite fun in ME 1. . . You could get some very long shots off, if you got out of the Mako and shot from a distance.

The bad thing though the scope on the gun didn't zoom in. . so don't expect to be able to shoot stuff ducking behind cover very easily from a great distance. Still shooting the Geth Colossus was quite challenging, and they would take muliple shots to bring down. . . Their white plasma? shots have a decient AOE to them and cause damage if you stayed near their area of detonation. Their plasma can one shot kill you if get hit directly. Turret hunting was a pain in the rear too, since some of them fired multiple times if you were not careful with how you stalked them. Still even with a fully outfitted best of the best sniper (highest 1 shot damage!) some things just vanished with your one shot (wait for the overheat to go away) while others took multiple hits to bring down. On open planets where there was argueable cover it was quite a challenge!

ME 2. . . Sniping lacked the distance shots, since everything was upclose for the most part. . Even triggered spawns were generally closer than in ME 1. Some of you guys think these guns are too powerful? Try on the higher difficulty levels, stuff soaks up more hits there. And many of the sniper rifles suffer from not haveing a big bag of thermal clips to pull from. Just try out the Mantis or Widow on those levels. Also the fun of stalking was some what removed from ME 2 because of the lack of thermals for some of those guns and the close in nature of the battlefields. Here is another challenge, try out the sniper with a Adept. . . You don't get time dialation with that class!

Too powerful? Ha in my opinion they were close to ME 1's snipers as you could get without the unlimited ammo and cooldown waiting.

Double Frictionless Materials and Inferno ammo make it the most exciting thing ever.
