Double Frictionless Materials and Inferno ammo make it the most exciting thing ever.

Humm, I never went that route with it Habitat 67. . .  In ME 1 I always loaded mine with the double rails? (whatever boosted damage at the price of heat) and explosive ammo. . . I didn't care about heat, since I was going for that 1 shot stopping power. I figured waiting for that cool down wasn't a big deal. And yea stuff would tend to fly or get knocked down if I shot near their feet! Ha!

It was like having a small portable cannon!

My infiltrator in ME1 when for max power on his sniper rifle too. It really was like having a portable cannon.

And yeah, putting points in sniper rifle along with the class skill for infiltrators made a world of difference in the usability of the sniper rifle.

I rarely used it as a soldier. I used it quite often as infiltrator once I discovered how good it could get with enough skill points in it.

I love the sniper rifle, in both games. I probably prefer ME1 snipers, since they don't have to worry about running out of ammo. Though I didn't use it much towards the end of my soldier ME1 playthrough, since it was so easy to just keep immunity up and mow people down with the assault rifle.

Yeah, they're accurate enough.

Do they still have ****ty aiming.

I hated me1 with that.

You know, if you put points into it, the sniper rifle stablized instantly in ME1. Just like every other weapon became more accurate the more you specialized in it.

Except it destroys immersion, as a trained Marine should know how to fire his gun.

Every marine is a marksman with a rifle. Not every marine is trained as a sniper.

Trick is in ME 1 is to fill out the points for the skill set. . . But, if memory serves me right, you have to go though one playthough with either solder or infiltrator and fully fill out the related sniper skill set. . . Then when you renew to different class for a replay you can pull over that skill as a bonus.

It was actually an achievement for getting 150 kills with a sniper rifle. Once the achievement popped, it unlocked sniper rifles as a bonus skill for any class to take.

Just finished ME1 playing Infiltrator and sniper rifle with high explosive was... good.

I started ME2 again and my imported character remains infiltrator. There haven't been that many places to try sniping and from my previous ME2 run I have memory that levels in ME1 were better suited for sniping. Levels in ME2 seems to be smaller. I may be wrong though.

HE rounds and dual scrams in the sniper are the only option. i simply dont use it untill i get my first HE mod.

the sniper rifle only sucks when you dont invest points into it, just like throw would suck if you didnt invest in it either. ofcorse theres no location damage in ME1 so hitting their big toe is as effective as hitting them between the eyes, unfortunately.

I love my sniper rifle....aiming to have a playthrough with all the classes, but I love Infiltrator the most. My Shepard always picks up the sniper ability bonus in #1 & the learn sniper-ability from the collector ship in #2.

I'm not often seperated from it.=P

Sniper rifles were absolute gold in ME1.

Spectre Sniper Rifle X + Scram Rail IV x2 + HE ammo X = Portable Nuclear Cannon.

I wouldn't even aim sometimes, just rush Geth and fire off a shot into the ground. BOOM those bots went flying away in flames.

Awesome thing in ME1 was that you could simply evaporate the enemy (or enemies) with one shot from that. That animation when they turned to ashes was pure win.

 Actual, valid problem.
Good solution: making the enemies more challenging / increase their numbers.
Bad solution: nerf the weapon.

Sniper in ME2 was good, in ME1 it was waste of time. I played infiltrator mostly in both games.

Example if you start new game in ME2 you can start using sniper rifle from start and it's gonna be fun. In ME2 you can also deside what body part you will shoot and it has different effects to enemies.

How ever, in ME1 it will take like half of the game even make sniping with sniper rifle working well enough it to be as usefull as the pistol. You can use even pistol to kill enemies at range of sniper rifle in ME1.  Reason for this is that sniper rifle skill affects players sniper rifle accuracy heavyly. Also you can't start raising the skill untill you have raised your pistol skill first. Pistol how ever when skill raised increase fire rate (addional ability), what allow shoot multible ammos in same direaction, like machine gun. So, slow few shot or fast multible shot, kill enemies equal fast. You don't even have to see enemies to kill them, just point any weapon in right direaction and it will works same.

I took out Saren in one shot, no joke. But in ME2 their even better.

First 6 to 10 levels - you don't get to leave the Citadel for the first time if you are doing all the sidequests. That is not half of the game.

Even with full Sniper points it'll still slightly shake for a few seconds, but after that it's pinpoint on the dot.

But it still takes tact and finesse. You cant just spray like a drunken Blood-raged Krogan.

After first 6-10 levels, I can get my pistol skill ALOT more efficient to kill enemies than I can do with sniper rifle skill. There is different between able to shoot barn and kill enemies with easy with pistol. Because it takes long time to get efficient of sniper rifle up to mach pistols ability kill enemies. Range isn't the issue in ME1, you can kill enemies what you can't see, even with pistol.

My point is that compared to ME2, sniping is joke in ME1. In ME2 you can have fun from start with sniping (after the tutorial).

Agreed.  I will grant that ME1's sniper rifles had fantastic range.  But I would argue that the location-dependent damage, ease of use, diversity, and time dilation we have access to ME2 outweigh the one advantage ME1 sniping had.

Not if you get some of the stabilizer/accuracy mods. It was never a problem after that. The biggest limiter was one shot massive cooldown time. Good thing too since Geth and pirate snipers could make your day very bad as well.
