Are snipers actually good?

I personally play a Viper wielding Adept on insanity and never seem to use any other weapon. It's not the best sniper rifle for other classes, but it definitely synergies well with biotics due to its ammo capacity (good ammo/damage ratio for just stripping defenses) and fast firing rate. I also like using the scope to shoot off biotic powers with pin point accuracy while milking another 50% more range out of them. Nothing better than turning your sniper rifle into a Singularity/Warp/Stasis targeting canon especially when your low on ammo.

I loved the snipers in both mass effect 1 and 2. I'd wish the snpier could go trough a target to hit more then one in ME3 and have more open area from where you can snipe. I also manage to be able to use snipers from a relativily close range. The most important part is aiming before scoping.

I love the sniper (widow in particuly) so much that it actually gets in my way to choose other class then infiltrator and soldier. (If there's a way to get the widow with other class someone tell me)
Me too. In fact, I've yet to choose another class. I need help.

ME2: Boom, headshot.
Both are incredibly satisfying, but I enjoy CQC just as much.

Am I the only one who likes that there was a sway in ME 1? I liked the fact that you needed to crouch and take your time to get your sniper to stablelize
Late on this one but...
I think ME1 sniper rifle was great for ME1 level design. When you were fighting outside of buildings there were much more time to aim and seek cover from incoming fire, so crouching and stabilizing riffle weren't much a problem.
In ME2 there isn't that much distance between you and enemy troops, so way they made it for ME2 makes sense to me.

Sniper rifles were absolute gold in ME1.
Spectre Sniper Rifle X + Scram Rail IV x2 + HE ammo X = Portable Nuclear Cannon.
I wouldn't even aim sometimes, just rush Geth and fire off a shot into the ground. BOOM those bots went flying away in flames.
And giving Ashley and Garrus the same weapon loadout makes using a Sniper w/ HE Rounds 3X as much fun.
Definitely my favoirte squad weaponry combination.

I use the left mouse to shoot but when I press the right the whole thing gets magnified and I lose where the target body parts and sometimes get the wall or something. Is there any tips anyone can offer me.I play on the PC. Or is this one of those things that is impossible to teach an older person. Am relatively ancient I am sure compared to most of you (let's say 60 years old) so if anyone can give me some tips I will reload some of the missions over and over to try and get the technique down.
Even on normal mode when I beat Saren in the first game with my engineer it took 3 tries to finally kill him so you can imagine what a bad player I am. I appreciate any guidance I am so interested with this sniping thing after watching some youtube videos. How the hell do you aim and run ...no wonder I suck at it. I will settle for just aiming and hitting something the run and shoot is never going to happen. I can do that with a pistol or SMG and run from cover to cover but not the rifle. Plus of course liberal use of the left shift to pause the combat is a boon from shooter heaven.
I am also loving this game so much I started every class and keep repeating the story and I got my infiltrator the slam skill since I finished some of the loyalty stuff and got the achievements. This game is so fantastic I wish I could play another game like this. I was looking at Red Dead Redemption

Drag the cloak ability to the #1 hotkey slot. This puts it right above your movement control fingers.
Everytime you want to snipe go through the following steps.
1. get in cover
2. hit cloak, enemies will stop firing at you, this stops the sight from shaking
3. aim, on the PC the aim is naturally a little high and to the right (this simulates bringing the rifle down)
4. take the shot, if you can get lined up on their head or body, if not, release aim then aim again, it will reactivate the time dilation
5. release aim and hit R to reload
With increased points in cloak and operative the cloak and dilation last longer allowing you to line up your shots. it takes a feww missions to get used to it, but then it feels natural. You even notice it missing from other classes after playing an infiltrator. Hope that helps.

I have played Assassin's Creed with the exception of the last assassination I was able to do all of it.
I think skill is the perfect skill compliment for someone practising their sniper aiming.
You may enjoy Fallout: New Vegas for a decent mix of shooting/RPG elements and engaging story. There are a few sniper like guns that work well and you can get a sniper companion who is just fantastic (Boone).

approved. It'ssad though. I miss sniping people from a mile away. I hope you'll have the possibility of long range sniping in ME 3.

since you cannot see whats going on outside your scope (which is fine)
my favourite is the pistol. fully upgraded, 2 shots and dead.
usually throw/overcharge+1shot = dead =P
submachine gun least favorite, terrible aim.
u shoot like 3-5 bullets with each shot and maybe 1 will go where it is supposed to =P

To properly use them you need to choose your target and aim before holding the right bouton. You should only scope for a really short time. I can use snipe at very close distance. The widow can even make a good shotgun if someone manage to run into you (like a husk)
