I kill off tali...and ONLY tali. FINALLY SHES GONE! THANK YOU!

More I think about it, I want mordin gone as well. So, Tali and Mordin are going to be my casualties for my next run through. Then again, I balkanized the flotilla so I kind of want tali alive to see how she is in ME3.

no one, ever, in 5 full playthroughs(from ME1 through ME2). i don't know how you can actually get anyone killed.

So last night i finished my second play through for ME2 on Hardcore, Just fine tuning things for ME3. I have everyone loyal and Romanced Thane. On my Suicide mission Tali and Jack die. Tali was in the vents PLUS was in charge of the distraction team (Jack being in charge of nothing the whole mission)

Restarted the mission, I can't live through ME3 without them(among others) <3

This is how I assembled the team after i restarted the mission:

Vents: Tali

1st (Fire) Squad Leader: Miranda

Biotic Shield: Jack

2nd (Fire) Squad Leader/Distraction Team: Grunt

Escort: Thane

Final Team: Miranda & Jack

Grunt was the only one who dies, this Lead me to believe that among other things who dies also depends on stamina (before I restarted My Tali for example and my original Miranda was in charge of the 1st fire squad and the Biotic shield)

Who did you choose?(just copy and paste the different team options above and put in your own squad choices)

His name was...Nobody.

It has to do with loyalty and how they're suited for the tasks you assign them for.
I actually want to kill off a few in my subsequent playthroughs solely to see how it impacts ME3. The entire team survived on my canon Shepard save, so it's all good on there.

Vents: Tali

1st (Fire) Squad Leader: Garrus

Biotic Shield: Samara

2nd (Fire) Squad Leader/Distraction Team: Garrus

Escort: Mordin

Final Team: Miranda & Legion

The first time I ever played i actually had read a suicide mission walkthrough, but looking at the walkthrough when I did I was like yeah... I really think I would have gotten everyone thorugh, as the choices they suggested were all choices I would have made.  The only one I might have not made was sending Mordin on the escort, so there is always a chance that Mordin will die during the "Hold the Line" portion.  I read recently a primer on exactly how to orchestrate deaths you want, and pretty much if you don't send Mordin on escort (or take him with you) he's got a HIGH chance of not surviving (but if someone else dies, he won't. There is many chances for people to die, and each person has a priority of who can die there, all the way down the line.)

I didn't lose anyone my first time through, without looking at a guide of how to make decisions. I was happy to see that a lot of my reasoning was correct after looking at the guide, however the hold the line math works a little different than I would have expected. I figured loyalty was the most important thing, especially since Jacob introduces the concept when you talk to him. I suppose I could have easily lost someone there though, but I left Garrus and Grunt behind figuring they were the best defenders. I did not think there was a tier that essentially sabotage the hold the line section like there is (all the bottom tier defenders).

First playthrough, I lost Miranda, Zaeed, and Mordin. I picked Mordin for the vents because he really did seem like a "tech expert," since he gets a special omni-tool upgrade, though I guess he's more of a biologist than a computer scientist/mathematician.
Zaeed and Miranda were both disloyal since my Shepard was mainly Paragon -- she took Jack's side in the Jack/Miranda confrontation and saved the refinery workers on Zaeed's LM. Picked Zaeed as the fireteam leader during the biotic field thing, and Jack as the biotic. Then took Miranda (and Grunt) with me to the Human-Reaper Larva.

Second playthrough, I lost Jack, while trying to get Tali killed (picked Miranda as the biotic, had Jack and Tali on my squad).

Third playthrough, I looked up the SM guide and deliberately killed Jack, Kasumi, Tali, Samara (deliberately screwed up her LM since I didn't have enough renegade to pick Morinth), and Jacob. Jack died because I didn't upgrade the shields, Kasumi got sent through the vents (with Legion as the fireteam leader), and Tali and Samara went with me to the Human-Reaper Larva.

Fourth (current) playthrough, I'm going to save everyone, because that's the only achievement I still don't have for the game:whistle:

I used to have a lot of issues with old Mordin dying, and I had a few issues with Jack too. Until I had read Pacifens walkthrough charts, I would lose one or the other.

Now that I have it down pat, I prefer to save everyone. If they prefer to cut their ways after ME2, then so be it - I got them alive through the Collectors.

No one died. I sent Tali to the vents, chose Garrus as the first squad leader, Miranda as the second. Samara shielded us from the swarms and Jacob defended the crew while going back to the ship.

I never run the numbers, but I prefer to send my weakest (lowest defense) squadmember back to the ship. Since Jacob has a huge defense bonus I have him and Zaeed and Grunt "Holding the line".

Jacob actually has an average defense rating.

Grunt, Garrus, and Zaeed have the best defense rating.
Tali, Kasumi, Mordin, and Jack have the worst (they contribute nothing to the effort if they're unloyal).

So I just finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2 last night. Sadly there are 3 coffins in the cargo bay of the Normandy....Miranda, Zaeed and Mordin occupy the coffins.

Oh well....time to start all over again.....and this time, NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND.

Lol, so one thing that's kind of funny: they have coffins for squadmates whose bodies could not possibly have been recovered in the scene at the end -- specifically whoever got carried off by the seeker swarms and non-loyal squadmates who died at the Human Reaper Larva.

In my first six runs no one died. I finally had my first casualty in the suicide mission last night. Playing on insanity, I was semi-Paragade and didn't have the ability to settle the Miranda/Jack fight to everyone's satisfaction. So, sadly, Miri bought it after the final battle against the Human-Reaper. Whoops.

Of my three playthroughs (so far):
1st Paragade femshep: Nobody:

2nd Renegade dudeshep: Jack (as 2nd Fireteamleader), Tali (after vents)

<---3rd Paragon femshep: Miranda (after Human Reaper), Jacob (vents), and (by mistake actually) Jack (squad mate during Biotic support, which was Miranda) and Za'eed (2nd fireteamleader)

They're probably empty coffins just to honor those who've fallen. Wouldn't this be the case in reallife when someone dies and the body is unable to be recovered for some reason?

on first playthrough I , following RPG canons , completed all quests before going for crew rescue/ All except Dr Chakwas died, Kelly included. On suicidal mission I used Garrus counting him as tech expert because his Turian Agent class is tech/combat combo. What a fool I was!. Garrus died

As biotic I used Jacob 'cause he said that "in theory" he could handle it. Zaeed died, I couldn't care less. Finally, Mordin died when he was left covering Shepard's back. This I was sorry about

Ill confess...i thought loyalty missions were just optional to gain an extra power i didnt need. I wanted to get through my first playthrough quick and then do a slow one after. Everyone died, including shep. I cried a little.

After a few playthroughs, I like to let a few people die. Dramatic effect mostly.
I think that sending an unloyal Zaeed to escort the crew is particularly touching.
After spending so much time with Shepard, Zaeed finally sees the error in his selfish ways and follows Shepard's example, giving his life to save the crew.
Same applies for a loyal Zaeed as the second fireteam leader.

Is she unloyal? And who are you bringing to fight the larva?
