I'm thinking of it this way, I always end up giving games a few playthroughs to figure out the mechanics, and what class/weapon/whatever works best with my playstyle. While I'd gotten one of those in already, I was only on my second when I hit the glitch. Now, if I was at the end of the game and my save corrupted... I'd start to get frustrated. As it is I've only lost about twenty hours... and did I really lose them? It was a fun playthrough, I didn't see the ending or anything, but it was fun. I was planning on playing again. And now I am. See, it's all in the perspective, ha ha.
As you said, its all in perspective. Different people will have different reactions. I wonder how many potential fans bioware lost with this bug

Hey Guy's Remember about 90% of the games that come out have bugs, glitches, ect.the reason is because these games have huge worlds and sometimes bugs get passed by the testing teams. Nothing is perfect guys.
The fact save corruption is so prevalent is a mistake. I can live with that, no game is perfect. Keeping normal back ups should be enough to get past such a problem.
The fact that the game's save system is set up in a non-standard way to maximize the damage of save corruption is NOT a mistake and should never have reared its head in a professional product. Someone, somewhere along the line made a conscious choice to go against industry standards to make the game less stable and basically unplayable unless you take the extreme measure of keeping external back ups.
BioWare said the patch would fix the freezing issue, but they haven't said if it would change how the save system works. Unless it gets overhauled, it'll still be possible to lose all your data, and the game will still be effectively broken.

There is no "industry standard" for game save files. Some games store everything in a single file. Somy games only let you have one active campaign at a time. Some games allow you to save as many files as you like, at any point you like (Fallout, for example). Some games split global settings and preferences into one file, progress into another. MAG saves your progress on Sony's servers... By your logic, every game ever is "effectively broken" because in every situation, with every single game, without backups (and soemtimes with backups, in the case of a copy-protected save, your PS3 dies, and Sony claims it is unfixable and simply replaces it, rendering you backup useless), IT IS POSSIBLE to lose all your data.
The fact that "something could happen" doesn't make it inherently broken.
A man holding a knife could possibly stab someone with it. That doesn't make him a killer by default.
Driving a car down the street could end in a possibly fatal collision. That doesn't mean driving as a whole is dangerous and to be avoided.
There is risk, or potential - possibility if you will - with every single thing in life. Some potential is negative, some is positive. That doesn't mean you should stop living because life itself is broken.

Edit: to make things clear, I know nothing about game design, but for nearly two weeks, I've seen repeated claims that it is entirely possible to design a game so that a single corrupted save doesn't result in all saves being corrupted. In two weeks, I haven't seen anyone dispute this and explain why such a system is impossible. Considering what a major part of the issue it is, I would've expected SOMEONE to clear this up if it was false. But they haven't, so I'm going by what's been said here.

It's certainly promising to hear many getting it to work, and you'd think it'd work the same for everyone but I do recall seeing people say earlier that that method didn't work

havnt tried to "restore" corrupted files, just backing up current good ones on flash drive, iv'e heard people having trouble and it working with the restore thing. i deleted my corrupted files as soon as i found em.. they scare me. see my xbox storyssjmichael wrote...
Has the Backup/restore method worked for everyone? I really want to play feeling assured that it will work but if there's even the slightest chance that I'll lose all the hours I've played I'd rather wait for the patch.

Hi. I just want to warn you guys: the workaround DOES NOT work. I was playing for only about 30 minutes when my game froze and my save data got corrupted.
At least I had a back-up file, so I only lost a few hours of game. There are reports of people not being successful on using back-up files, though.
Which is worrying....if Bioware's workaround isn't accurate, can we assume the patch may not fix the freezing/corruption issues either?

1. The patch release is since Friday just a Sony thing don't flame Bioware for giving us such a GREAT game finally on the PS3. It will come in the next few days.
2. the workaround does work! It's not about the time you play, it was already written from the bioware staff (Jesse Houston) that the freezes are caused by to many Level-Changes (dont remember the words he used but I don't wanna search the whole post) so if you are just playing half an hour or so but visited - let's say 5 stages - you can still have the freeze problem with corrupted Savefiles.
3. Don't know really the first week sellings of ME2 for PS3, but look at how many (or should I say how less) people are complaining here. The Game isn't buggy! It's just a few persons by maybe 100.000 customers and there are many possible causes off your console settings or what else. definetliy kind of "Worst Case" that MUST NOT be found in the beta-test-phase. My copy runs like Usain Bolt. Some glitches, the Firewalker Graphic issues I got also and there was a point on Tuchunga when I talked to the Krogan wich stands in front of the Shaman. The Krogan's whole body texture went away so I just talked to a black siloutte (Is this the right Englisch word?).
I'm playing it on the first version of the PS3 Slim wit 120GB HD. I making a pause in the game lately every 3 Missions (pause by missions not by time you got it?) then I make a copy of the savefile everytime until the patch is there. And what should I say: NO MAJOR PROBLEMS AT ALL!
So if you want to blame me or flame me for this post feel free to do what you like.
Best regards outta Germany. Especially to Bioware! Definetly one of my top 3 Games in the last 20 years of gaming. And at the moment I don't even knoe the other two :-)
Now I have to go on helping Tali. My save says 60+h and the end isn't really near...

You are absolutely right, but as long as there are people who THANKS software houses for PAYING to be beta testers, instead of being paid or BOYCOTTING them, this situation will not change. <_<
The save issue is a MAJOR issue, and it's untolerable that a MAJOR title like ME2 has been released with this issue "UNNOTICED"...

what are the chances that the patch will uncorrupt saved game data?
Zero, My guess is all they can do is guarantee files will not be corrupted anymore, and the game will stop freezing; that's good enough for me. I'm trying the solution they suggested, it seems to work.

Come on sony release it! I'm already bored of LBP2 and I'm dying for some more ME2!
I'm willing to bet Bioware hasn't even sent it to them yet. I also find it sad that you could get bored of a game with endless possibilities.

Sad? Really?
Played the hell out of it for nearly a week, I lack the required devotion for create mode and there is only so many community levels I can enjoy without the core mechanics of the game repeating themselves.
It isn't "sad" at all, I would simply just rather spend my time playing ME2 right now. I'm always going to return to LBP monthly to see what new community creations there are.
