for the corrupted saves, may i ask a question, all you men and women say the games creates corrupted saves, but at what part of the game does it happen, during the main game or during the dlc of lair of the shadow broker?

I am experiencing rampant game freezes from this game. And I've encountered my Game Save not recognised when I managed to get back to the main menu with only the option to start a New Game. If that ever happens, I'll mostly just quit the game, and restart it and hoping so much that it will suddenly be okay. And all the 3 times that I've encountered it, it always works by just quitting and restarting the game. :)

On to another topic, It's been 2 days since I last played since my game keeps on crashing before the Reaper IFF mission and when I finally managed to get the game started without freezing, the WORST thing that could ever happen did.
Just at the end of the cutscene, the screen went black, my PS3 made a few "Beep" noises, I  also heard some "click" sound in my PS3 like something has been triggered and saw a bit of a yellow light to the right of the red light before it disappears in less than a second.
Oh my god.. I freaked out!! Then the red light just kept beeping until I manually pressed on the Power Button.
(I can't turn my PS3 on with the controller has all the lights were lit up and was searching for a PS3)
Then, I turned it back on and prayed. And thank goodness it worked. Just that it says I didn't shut the PS3 properly. =/
But a Yellow Light?!
Guys! Do any of you know how the YLOD works? Is it like that?

After that, I just tried it again and got past the cutscene where quickly without any loading screen, just started the playthrough and the game starting to Save. That's how I know the cutscene has ended. But just after I encountered the husk and about to save manually, the game froze. >_>
I gave up and played Black Ops to make sure it isn't the PS3's fault. And I never encountered any problems any more. If this game caused my PS3 to get YLOD, I demand compensation.
If any EA representative or Bioware is reading this, could you please inform me of the process to get such compensation for a game so broken that it practically made a YLOD in the middle of the game.

look all you need to do is do what Bioware said to do and thats play the game for a couple of hours and then quit out of the game completely and then re-start playing. Its something to do with memory fragmentation, I did what they suggested and ive just completed the game including all the DLC with no corrupt saves. I played max 2 hours at a time ..saved where I was..quit out of the game..then restarted..no problem.

Can anyone confirm that making breaks from game will help me avoid save corruption?

I'm at the point when I can do Shadow Broker and I've already lost my 30h save game so I hope it won't happen again.

Apparently, but I have heard of people who have had short breaks and had the same thing happen to them. If you've already lost your 30th save then why continue? just wait for the patch, back your saves up and you won't have to start all over again.

not 30th save :) it had 30 hours of game in it :)
So I started over and got to almost the same point (haven't done all the same missions I had then though)

And why are you here waiting for patch? Cause the game is awesome and i want to finish it.
But in case my corrupted save is non fixable I started over :)
same story as everyone ;)

I've personally never come across a patch that requires you to restart the game from scratch. If that was the case I'd imagine that game would be severly broken in the first place.

you've never played Faloout 2 or you haven't patched it? :)

Well I actually meant more mordern games really my bad for not specifying though.

Never played any of the old fallouts actually :(

Patch still hasn't arrived, I've waited a week some of us even more than that just for some news on were it is. Damnit.

Ah sorry, when I read it I thought you said 30th, I was thinking you were a mad man! :P

I'm just waiting for the patch because I don't want to start all over again if I get hit with this freeze-corruption issue. Its mainly because I don't really have the time to go and do it again I guess.

so no good news yet?

I'm a bit scared to launch Shadow broker mission.

I'm about 30hrs playtime, backupping every time i quit the game but i got only 1 freeze since i started.

really hope to see the patch soon, i know it's a sony matter at this point, to better enjoy this addictive game. Someone remember the PS3 Return to Ostagar dlc odysee?

It has been said before and should be common knowledge that the Moderators and Bioware Employees do have strict rules they must follow when giving information out to the community. They post what they can and for the most part, they post far more often than other developers do on their respective forums.

Of course we would all like constant updates on the issues that plague us, but sometimes that just isn't possible with a publicly traded company. Just be patient.

Dude, the YLOD is an issue with the type of solder used near the CPU. Heat/Cooling cycles cause the solder to disconnect in places. A workaround is to get a very hot air source onto the systemboard - some people have got it working again with a hairdryer or paint stripper to expand the solder and make an electrical connection again.

It's a common issue with the PS3 fat - nothing at all to do with software.

I don't disagree at all but when i order a game at express in order to have it ready for my little brother's birthday and then find unable myself and him to play it, its not fair.
I work at weekdays and i only have weekends spare time.
I only need an update!

because of my schedule, I rarely play more than an hour at a time. I maybe played for two hours when I first got the game, but have played for about 45 min at a time since. 25 hours into the game my save got corrupted (yes, just after doing Shadow Broker). So, I would not trust the whole stopping every few hours and restarting thing...

Well, since I learned of this bug, I stopped playing and bought Medal of Honor and Dante's Inferno for cheap. I finished Medal of Honor and there was still no patch. Mind you, it is a really short game..

So shortly after, I started Dante's Inferno. I platinum'd that one last night... Still no ME2 patch. I guess I could finally play through Killzone 2, since I bought it on launch day and hardly touched it. But I really just wanna play Mass Effect 2. :)

Just a comment:

I beat the game and all the DLC, and did every side mission and scanned every planet for anomalies. I've experienced freezing twice, but my data was never corrupted. It happened for the first time at the end of Kasumi's Stolen Memory DLC, right when I killed the boss, and again during a load screen when trying to catch up and recruit Thane. I just turned off the system and all the data was fine.

For the record, I didn't have auto-save enabled, and had been playing regularly until hearing of the bug. Since then, I took the advised precautions of saving and quitting to the main menu every 40 mins or so. I also backed up my profile data once before doing the IFF mission.

My advice: If you're playing ME2 for the first time, just take it in short bursts and save every 45ish minutes and exit to the main menu and reload. If you're unlucky and your data gets corrupted, then just play through it again and skip through all the dialogue. It'll take a fraction of the time.

Edit: Seems like the Shadow Broker DLC is the most problematic. I didn't play it until after I cleared the main game (it actually fits better story-wise if you wait). Dunno if that has any impact on the freezing glitch, but it didn't happen to me.

To sum it up: Don't do the Shadow Broker DLC until after you beat the game. The patch has been submitted and will probably be out by then regardless.

Yup as D_Mise and others have said, just keep taking breaks. I've just finished (well other than a few N7 missions I might do later) my 4th playthrough. granted the 2nd was a speedrun as was trying to work out what 'Default' Shep might have done, but still, all of the others did a fair chunk of content. I completed LotSB in my first playthrough mid-game with no issues and I just did LotSB after the Suicide Mission in my 4th playthrough without any issues. Just kept remembering to take a break every couple of hours or so. On both occasions when it came to LotSB I made a save before triggering it, restarted PS3 and backed up the data I had pre-LotSB, fired game up and went through it fine, like I said that was both in a pre-Suicide Mission playthrough and one post-Suicide Mission playthrough (my 3rd playthrough avoided Ilium altogether because that Shep don't like Asari despite the Comic's stupid attempt to get everyone to love them).

I've had the occasional freeze, but luckily never once (so far) got the corruption issue some people have faced.

My patience is wearing ever-so-thin. Seeing Kaidans face pop up every time i go to Sheps cabin has definitely lost its novelty by this stage. My game hasnt crashed yet but i live in fear that it could go kaput anytime. WHERE IS THE PATCH BIOWARE!

There is a lesson to be learned here. Never pre-order games. Never buy a game at launch. Wait at least two months after launch for solid evidence (not from reviewers) that the game is bug-free or patched to be bug-free.

I violated my own rule with ME2 because 1) the game is old and only new to PS3, and 2) I love Bioware. Well, caveat emptor. I got burned.

Hey, does anyone know how long it usually takes for sony to do whatever it is they do and relese patches for games and such? I'm sure bioware must have submitted the patch to sony by now and I'd like an idea of how much longer I'll have to wait for this patch to be released.
