I started reading through these threads last night after I received a corrupted save file. Please note - just because you haven't had any issues yet does NOT mean you aren't going to have any going forward. I played through the entire game (around 40 hours) error free (with the exception of a couple of audio bugs). On my insane run for a second playthrough, I received a corrupted save file freeze leaving Horizon and I had only been playing for about 15-20 minutes at the time. Not hours...I turned on my PS3 and 15 or 20 minutes later my character was permanently lost. The "workaround" may lesson the problem, but it in NO way alleviates it entirely.

I find myself having no desire to start a new insane run at this point...especially without a patch released yet that has been proven to effectively solve this issue. It's been two weeks since the announcement and nothing since.

This is very poor timing for Bioware considering the upcoming release of the new DA game. Nothing ruins a gaming experience more than a game-ended issue. Glitches and bugs can be tolerated or ignored (think Fallout)...but this is hours and hours of playtime thrown away. Why risk it again...and why purchase another game from the same company and risk it there as well?

Really dude thats your solution? C-Mon man we are'nt all PC gamers like you aparantly are and that would'nt even cross our minds.

buy it on PC he says.....
 hahaha

Considering that the PC version is a superior experience and considering also that you won't need a high-end rig to play it, then yes it's a prety good solution!
Unfortunately as others said, using the Cerebrus code makes your ps3 version worthless thus not enabling you to trade it.
Last but not least you dont need an IT certificate to play a game on PC
It is fairly easy unless you have some kind of retardation
You amusement on facts intrigues me...

Sorry but the PC version is not the superior version, i mean its very cheap after a year later thats for sure. but what about the DLC? and what about the fact that on the PS3 it runs with the ME3 engine? and its not just me saying this most site reviews say the great experience in ME2 is played on PS3. i agree that the PS3 is superior if it werent for this issue that so msany people are having. but hey i do the workaround and no problems until now, not a single freeze. even the shadow broker mission runs smooth, and its one of the best in the game. the only thing was bad graphics on the overlord and some audio out synch sometimes.

dude try the workaround. dont connect to the EA servers disable the auto-save. you play for a max time of 2 or 3 hours, or play a max of 2 or 3 missions. then exit the game and copy your save to a usb pen. if you do this you lose almost any progress

the workaround works. because we expect that if sometime we get a corrupted save we have a backup saved in a usb pen. thats the full workaround and it seems that you havent done it

Playing it on a PC... why didn't I thought that !!!

If playing it on my PC was a valid option, many people here would have done it at any point in the last year. However, not everyone have a PC for gaming... that is what consoles are for.

Save games going corrupt doesn't constitute the game being "Defective".  It's a bug that slipped through the cracks and you can workaround it as stated earlier.  Game developers especially those that deal with code have it rough.  You can fix one thing and break another element of the game by accident.  For this game to be completely defective you have to see very severe problems and I mean severe.

Do me a lemon and yourself a favour Cmpuwiz03 and stop chatting fart. The game is broken, and I have zero sympathy for a development team that allowed the game to ship in such a sorry state. In any case, I'm already sold on the idea of waiting for a patch, my problem is that, despite the fact many first day purchasers lost significant hours to an undisclosed bug, the Bioware defence force seemed determined to trot out guff about the game working just fine.

So, what exactly do you have invested in undermining the legitimate complaints of your fellow gamers and unconditionally supporting Bioware? If our positions were reversed you would have my sympathy for sure; that you and your fellow defenders of all things Bioware seem unable to reciprocate says everything about us all I think.

well the game is only broken to some extent, and i understand why people try to defend the developers in bioware. because if you search here there are people who finished the game with no problems, im playing in around 46 hours and got no freezes or corrupted save or even those annoying bugs of characters getting stuck. if these people and including me were the testers in bioware we would approve the game with some minor exceptions such as audio out of synch during gunn fight. you have to understand that the corrupted saves are only happening to a few people and the freezes are normal to happen in games, and im surprised that until now i havent experienced a single freeze in this game, so thats why the developers didnt caught up with this issues. and if you check the many reviews on this game none mentioned this problems, only because not even they got the corrupted save issue. its someting that happens to a few hundred in millions of players

The point of my original post was for those who think it can't happen to them just because they've completed a full playthrough already - It can, and it can happen after minutes of play, not hours.

So...just to clairify - ignore the official statement from Bioware regarding their workaround. Constantly backup the save file to a usb drive and if and/or when the save file becomes corrupted and unplayable, delete it and re-load it onto the system from the usb drive for an easy and confirmed fix?

I wonder if they knew about most of these bugs before hand? cause they were testing a patch days after release it seems convenient. cool if they did but the saves thing seems a bit bad to me.....I haven't ran into that problem so I cant attest to its validity but that is a bug that never should have left QA.

Freezing is normal ?! My game still unplayable because this f***** load screen freeze bug.
I don't want to start a new game with the possibility of the bug happen again.

You really think people are going to go out and spend £700+ on a mid range pc to play one game slighly better than it is on PS3? You serious?

And you think a ps3+ an HD tv costs less?
Please do not trick yourself with hallucinations....

So should a PS3 gamer instruct a person having issues with the PC version to simply just go get a PS3 + HDTV and play that version instead?

Considering this is a thread for technical issues regarding the PS3, and not ME2 in general, I fail to see how your advice could possible be considered helpful.

Still no patch? If I wasn't busy with other things I'd be pretty bummed right about now. Hopefully it's released by the time my schedule frees up.

Lets face it, Bioware is currently developing Dragon Age II. They dont have the time or men to fix this any time soon. Plus, at first it seemed to be like one or maybe two bugs, but the more beta test...mmm...I mean...gamers...got to play the game, more and more bugs have been reported.

Bioware has multiple development teams, each dedicated to specific games — i.e, the Dragon Age franchise, the Mass Effect franchise and so on. It's not just one development team doing everything.

Quill74Pen

Right. So when a team ends a game they just get a 4 years vacation with salary untill reasigned to another game development. No, dude. They are just employees and they do whatever the hell the boss tells them to. When they finished Mass Effect 2 they where put to Dragon Age II, just like any other resource the company has.

I doubt it dude, the Mass Effect team are in Montreal and the Dragon Age team in Edmonton.

To make a videogame the place that you are at does not matter. All you need is the dev tools, a pc and some coordination. Then someone puts everything together and there you goe. a brand new videogame.

First time poster - I got the dreaded corrupted save. Unfortunately that forced me to look at these boards and realize it was a common problem - unfortunately too late. I had 25+ hours logged into the game - just finished Horizon and was stopping at Omega and Citadel to make some purchases before pursuing Doziers pt. 2.

In any event, just want to voice my frustration along with others over this glitch and disappointment that 1.) Bioware missed this in quality control 2.) Bioware didnt find a way to communicate in-game to gamers that their saves were at risk 3.) it has taken SCEA this long to approve a patch that was supposedly released 2 weeks ago.

This will affect my decision to buy another Bioware game - as great as the games are this is a truly monumental gaffe. A goodwill effort by Bioware (i.e. $ credit towards a future game purchase) for those affected by this would go a long way toward building back consumer loyalty. I dont have lots of gaming time so what I do have is precious and I am really let down that I pissed away so much time to have to start over (or give up on the game altogther).

The workaround works. Some of you are doing it wrong, which is why it's not working for you. Don't claim that the workaround doesn't work. You have no evidence of that.

If your game is defective in other ways: like if it freezes at the same points over and over again, a patch probably won't fix that. Take your game back, if you can, and get another copy.

The problem, of course, being that most people don't find out about the workaround until *after* they've lost their save.

Is there a way to get the patch without scee or scea approving of it.... 2 weeks to approve a patch that stops a major glitch in a game is way to long in my book...

No. All patches go through Sony. No exceptions.
