I would like to say, a few days it occurred to me that maybe the problem is with the Mass Effect 3 engine the ps3 version is using. Now hear me out on this.
1. The patches that the ps3 got were ones that worked on the 360 version, in theory we shouldnt be having this problem in the first place.
2. The 360 version doesnt use the Mass Effect 3 engine.

So all in all, this problem could be from PS3 version using the ME3 Engine. There couldve been bugs in the Engine that werent caught when testing the PS3 version, which seems to be the case. From the initial post i think even Bioware was surprised ME2 for PS3 had a problem because it has all the patches up to date that the 360 has.

I am just glad I havent ran into any of the major problems yet. I read and play games so that problay helps.

Thought it was obvious that it was the ME3 engine.  I still have thoughts that the ps3 was the beta testers for the engine.

Well i dont check this thread that often and i havent ran into all the big bad glitches. Ive been waiting for the time i load up the game and it saids their is a patch that needs to be installed lol.

2) Rockpopple: I still cant figure out your game. You are a ****ing mystery of corporate america. Maybe if you said once, just ONCE that you recognize that there are some serious issues with this amazing piece of software, my mind would be at ease (not that you give a f***, or should, or I ask you to..or that I give a f***, for that matter).

You mean like I did here?

Rockpopple wrote...

Of course I've experienced glitches in this game. I've had Shepard pop out of cover. I've had squad-mates disappear. I encountered a truly nasty glitch on the Kasumi mission where I was stuck to cover and couldn't move. All I could do is hope to die and try the battle again. I've had the rainbow glitch happen to me. I've had it freeze a couple of times, but it didn't have anything to do with level transitions and luckily my saves were okay. I had backups in any case.

Mind at ease yet, or did I not complain enough for you? I've said many times that there are serious issues with the game. What you haven't seen me do is **** and moan and complain incessantly about it. But hey, you stay classy, dude.

Jesus if i worked for Bioware and had to read these remarks i would want a drink. Just relax and give them some time to do it. The workaround takes 90 seconds to do and i haven't had no problems besides long loading times on the Normandy. Just relax a bit play Killzone 3 beta or just bite down on ure lip like some of us do and wait patiently.

"just bite down on ure lip like some of us do and wait patiently"

After two weeks of waiting, it's completely understandable if some people's patience is wearing thin.

I still lean towards compassion for Bioware. Yes I've lost one playthrough of the game, but I :

(a) Am greatful to see the Mass Effect series on the PS3, because my pc isn't up to snuff for gaming.

(B) Can understand that a new engine will have glitches, eventhough I was of the naive belief that the game would be bugless... because when they mentioned the PS3 was on a new engine, the possible ramifications didn't occur to me.

© Highly doubt that the corrupted save bug was deliberate malice or negligence on Bioware's part, but rather something that didn't show it's ugly head during quality assurance. Some people haven't experienced the corrupted save issue yet... it's credible to me that QA could've been done well, and the issue just managed to sneak past being spotted.

(d) Blame the Reapers... or The Illusive Man. One of those two is the most likely culprit.

The workaround works. Some of you are doing it wrong, which is why it's not working for you. Don't claim that the workaround doesn't work. You have no evidence of that.

If your game is defective in other ways: like if it freezes at the same points over and over again, a patch probably won't fix that. Take your game back, if you can, and get another copy.

I know this is a bit late but I really wanted to point out, where is the evidence that the workaround does work? Some people say it does, some it doesnt. Best thing to do is wait for the patch.

I think the reason why the patch is taking a while is because there working on ME3 and we dont want a push of a date for it so just let bioware take there time

My game keeps freezing in the same spot during the Shadow Broker mission. I'd buy your excuse, except that on my first playthrough, everything worked fine.

People using that workaround are simply lucky as the way in which memory fragmentation occurs is not necessarily dictated by playtime.

throwing in my two cents here - have been playing the game with the "workaround" since yesterday. No freezes at all. I don't know, maybe I'm just lucky?

Well, EA own Bioware and EA handle tech support and customer issues. It's quite likely that EA have shackled/limited Bioware's direct communication with the public. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case.

It's not the first time I have heard that dev companies aren't allowed to communicate with the playerbase due to the publisher wanting to control this aspect of the business.

It's a shame, because I reckon most players dislike publishers and just wish that they would go away and leave us to build a relationship only with the developer.

Not the case. EA Tech support are still directing players to this forum for support or lack of support depending how you spin it.

I'm getting angry with Sony after all when they will release this patch to fix this bug in the game.

I want an answer

unfitting and they do not respect the consumer

we will soon complete two weeks and nothing

I demand an answer from Bioware and Sony

Hi Folks!

This is my first post on the forum. After playing this game for over 60 hours, it is obvious that the Artists who created this game poured their hearts and souls into it. It is a monumental work of art, that currently has a serious flaw with saves. It is my belief that any group of people who can create something as amazing as Mass Effect 2 will act in good faith to repair it as soon as humanly possible.

To my fellow players, thank you for posting details about what you have experienced, and possible solutions and workarounds. This has been helpful to me.

To contribute to the solution, I offer the following technical details about my experience with Mass Effect 2. I have opened a ticket with support with this information.

I experienced the Corrupted Save issue after just over 18 hours of game play (5 days). This was on my second playthrough. I didn't usually play for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. I played continuously for 5 or 6 hours on the first playthrough without a corrupted file. I always play while connected to the EA servers and with Autosave enabled.

To the best of my recollection, the following symptoms occurred in sequence:

1. A freezup on a mission in a building where we were shooting Blood Pack Krogan (I can't remember which mission). I ejected the disk and re-inserted it to reboot the PS3.

2. After loading a save from Shepard's cabin, the fish in aquarium disappeared when the feed button was pressed.

3. The game froze on the return to Normandy loading screen at the end of the Collector ship mission. I ejected and re-inserted the disk. The PS3 rebooted, I restarted the game, the resume option was gone, but I could load the carreer of the first play through. The second play through was gone, there was a corrupted data file in the game data folder.

I deleted the all of the game saves and the profile, but I did not uninstall the game or the DLCs.

I have been playing for less than 60 minutes at a time. At the end of 60 minutes, or at the end of a mission or level up, I quit the game and either shut down, or just restart the game. I have 4 separate saves in my Carreer.

Last night, something strange happened. I finished the Horizon mission and the debrief from the Illusive man. I saved, shut down, came back to the game 30 minutes later, and the resume option was missing from the menu, but load was still there. I got the Registration option when trying to Connect to EA. I did not load the game. I quit instead, and reloaded it. The Resume option reappeared. I connected to EA without prompts. But the game resumed at the start of the Illusive man debriefing (I had saved the game after this). No other ill effects have been observed since then.

So, since there was no freeze, there may be more than one type of save corruption going on here.

Other bugs:

1st play though, freezup while loading the vault in the greybox mission. Eject disk reboot worked.

Got stuck on top of the table in Donovan Hock's bedroom while searching for DNA (Kasumi greybox quest).

Got stuck in midair after setting the Mech to explode in Jacob's loyalty quest on the planet Aeia.

Shepard gets up from cover and gets shot down a lot.

Shepard's speech gets cut off (especially in Engineering "Carry on").

You can't talk to Engineer Gabriella "Gabby" Daniels in engineering: Kenneth answers instead.

Sincerely yours,

CanadaGeorge

Only big problem I have encountered was the Ovelord DLC (PS3) so far, few minor things like stuttering framrate on title menu etc but nothing overly major apart from that.

The surface craft you are in when hopping over the lava, a lot of the time the craft drops through the stone islands and you cant hop up back onto a different island, you seem to be locked in at a certain flight level. I managed to complete that particular mission but it was more by luck. When it happened had to struggle to get the craft to the other shore before its sets on fire and you had to start again.

I am simply too afraid of playing and losing all my progress. With some people saying that the "work around" method does not always work...well, I stopped playing four days ago.It is very frustrating to buy a game just to let it get some dust.

Bioware should be updating us with some news about the status of the patch. Are they still waiting for Sony to certify it? If so, is there an estimated release date?

I was considering the possibility of pre-ordering Dragon Age 2...but now I will wait until this issue with ME2 is properly solved. I feel that sometimes is better to be patient by waiting for games to get a price drop and then buy them. That's apparently the only way of making sure that we won't be encountering fatal bugs.

The game, bugs aside, is great. I only wish I could play it without fears of losing my save data.

You can bet that the Alternative Costume Pack 2 will be for sale today on the PS Store....

....of course it will, when they want your money it's never late.

However, the critical patch STILL isn't here 2 weeks after it was finished. Maybe if the patch was for sale for £1.99 then it would have been here days ago.

Capitalism sucks.

Haha so true, someone a few pages back said if the glitch was something like allowing DLC to be free of charge we would of had a patch weeks ago. It's sadly very true.

I haven't experienced the corruption, but I still want the patch for the loading times amongst other things. It would simply be nice to know how the process is going along, how long we may have to wait? Can this be so hard?

that's why we americans abandoned it and elected a "socialist" as our president.
all joking aside, this patch is taking a long time to be released. an update about it's current status would be nice.
