That depends on the difficulty level and what you want your squadmates to do.  For instance, squadmates using the Tempest might deal more damage than those with the Shuriken, but they will also be out of cover longer, exposing them to more fire.

Here's what I use (Insanity).

Shotgun: GPS
Assault Rifle: Mattock
Sniper Rifle: Incisor
Pistol: None
SMG: Shuriken

Then use the Eviscerator for shotguns (or don't use squadmates with shotguns at all, or make them use their pistol).  For assault rifles, I would probably use the Vindicator.  For Grunt and Legion, let them use their special weaponry (Claymore + Widow).

Edit: I certainly don't know the details of your financial situation or philosophies on weapons/items DLC, but I do recommend getting the Firepower Pack.  It adds a lot of interesting options with weapon and class combinations.  The Mattock is overpowered, but still enjoyable.

Alright thanks.

I just wanted my Squadmates to be they're full potential and not just soaking up shots while I do all the work.

EDIT: For sure Firepower and Aegis will be my next DLC grab, I wouldve gotten them if LotSB didnt cost so much. :pinched:

I forgot the Incisor was DLC.  Until you get the Aegis pack, I would probably use the Viper, or have them camp on their other weapons.  Garrus and Zaeed will do fine with the Vindicator.  Thane, though, might be less than desirable using an SMG, so he's a good Viper choice.

Assuming Insanity level, it depends on the three members of team. But in general:

Submachine Gun: Tempest. While the Locust is more controllable for the player, there's no effect for teammates.

Heavy Pistol: Doesn't make much difference, since few players that I know of let their teammates use pistols.

Assault Gun: I'm a bit offbeat hear. I prefer the Geth Pulse Rifle. It strips away shields and barriers very well. It's weaker against armor but, with bonuses such as Zaheed's massive weapons bonus, it's more than adequate. Also, Zaheed has inferno grenade, which works on armored targets.

If squadmates would rapid-fire the Mattock (boom-boom-boom instead of boom ... boom ... boom), I'd prefer it.

Sniper Rifle: Incisor if you have it. Viper if you don't

Shotgun: Geth shotgun if you have it, Eviscerator if you don't.

See next post for something more advanced.

Garrus and Zaeed: The Incisor Brothers

Give each of them an Incisor Sniper Rifle and have them carry it unless you're in extreme close quarters. Place them behind good cover with decent fields of fire and let them rip. Between the two Incisors and Garrus' Overload, shields won't last long. Between two Incisors with bigf weapons bonuses and Zaeed's Inferno Grenade, armor won't last long. Between two Incisors and Garrus' and Zaheed's concussive shots, barriers won't last long.

Among other reasons, I favor the Mattock for squadmates because of the high chance it has to trigger ammo power effects (freeze, fire panic, weapon overheating/stunned synthetics).

Thanks guys, so it seems universally obvious to me I need the two DLC's.

But its glad to know I can have a use for Thane other then dying and making Dethklok references.

You'll do fine without them. Incisor is the only one that makes a huge difference on allies. Otherwise, stock weapons don't get outperformed too much. Unless you're really wanting some of those weapons for yourself, I wouldn't go out of my way to get them. It's worth mentioning that the Incisor is terrible as a player choice. It's good for allies because they don't have to worry about the ludicrous ammo problems.

I would argue the GPS features the most dramatic improvements over stock weapons of its variety.  The Incisor is a great weapon, sure, but squadmates can snipe effectively with the other options.  Grunt is the only shotgun squadmate that can actually use a shotgun effectively without DLC, as he has access to the Claymore.

I can buy that. To be honest, I never payed much attention to Grunt or used him until long after I'd bought the GPS, and I never use Jacob once I've recruited Kasumi, Mordin or Garrus (and not because I think he's bad; he's just not as good as any of those).  Anyway, there's probably a  big discrepancy I never noticed there.  On the other hand, I'm rarely worried about how much damage Grunt is doing so long as he's keeping the enemies' attention.

You don't need them really unless you want Insanity to be even easier than it already is.

Pistol: Phalanx. If you don't have Firepower DLC, then any.

Assault Rifle: If you don't feel like to be challenge then Mattock, otherwise use Vindicator if you like 3 burst fire rate, high damage&accuracy and low ammo; GPR with lot of ammo, low damage( much higher with Mechs and Geth) and high accuracy; Revenant is machine gun, enough said. Collector Assault Rifle and Avenger are great, but I prefer others.

Shotguns: Katana or Scimitar. Depends if you prefer low fire rate higher damage or high fire rate lower damage.

SMG. Locust if you want to be in range, Tempest if you to get little close. For squadmates use Tempest, they have high accuracy unlike you.

Sniper: Widow, don't have Soldier or Infiltrator class and with those 2 you want something else then Viper.

Notably, the Geth Pulse Shotgun allows a shotgun wielder to fire effectively from behind cover, but the AI control on squadmates doesn't change. Give a squaddie a shotgun and he/she will continue to leave cover to get to close range. Shotgun-equipped sqaddies need careful management.

You have a point, lazuli, but you also have to admit that those chances to trigger ammo power effects would be even better if AI characters could learn to "tap a fire button" faster.

Those numbers are completely meaningless for squad mates since they use different parameters for aim time, amount of shots they fire, etc.

For allies.

Shotgun: GPS except on Grunt who's better off with the Eviscerator since he has an assault rifle for ranged combat and because the GPS has no stopping power and can't match the Eviscerator's stopping power or DPS at close range.

Assault Rifle: Mattock or Vindicator not much difference really.

Sniper Rifle: Incisor

Pistol: Phalanx although having an ally use a pistol is always a poor option unless their only other weapon is a shotgun and you don't have them using the GPS.

SMG: Tempest

I disagree about the Incisor being bad for the player. Its my sniper rifle of choice, providing I don't have access to the Widow. Ammo is so plentiful and easy to obtain, I've never had any problems with that. Worse case scenario, I switch to another weapon and use my powers. The Incisor kills enemies faster than the Viper.

I can't speak for your own experiences Seeker, but what you're saying above simply doesn't work with the facts. The Incisor's DPS is significantly lower than the Viper and it's ammo pickups haven't been balanced properly - IIRC they pick up at about 2-3 rounds per clip despite it having 15 rounds in the clip. That's a significantly smaller ratio than any other weapon relative to it's per-shot damage.

Or, to put it simply, according to the hard data, the Incisor does damage at a much slower rate and requires more ammo pickups to do so.

Agree.  I'm glad its the best sniper for squadmates, because when I first got it I tried it on my soldier on Horizon and it was terrible - usually the three shots would not all hit when I tried headshots, and the ammo pickup rate seemed weak.  I could not one-shot the collectors with the mantis either, but at least the ammo pickup seemed better.
