when morrigan's mother saves you from the tower, you're told that she turned into an eagle and picked both you and allister up in each talon.
How did your Dog (mine's called Kharne) make it back to you?

Before that, she turned into a dog, explained where you were going, and he agreed to meet at the hut.

well, if your dog was as awesome as mine was (at least by the end of the game) he probably plowed straight through the darkspawn lines, destroying all that stood in his way until he found his master =P

Makes you wonder why they don't have mabari go through the Joining.

I'm sure they'd be excellent Grey Wardens.

Dog is too smart to join the Gray Wardens... they smell too funny to be trusted.

My dog did go through the joining, I had to get a special flower to prevent him from dying from it, though.

The joining requires a special mixture involving lyrium and all sorts of other stuff. It is just as simple as chucking down some dark spawn blood and survive the taint :)

Well imagine the ending if the dog HAD gone through the joining..

.. hey this is a spoiler forum, you were warned!

...

Morrigan: Either Alistair or you will die killing the Archdemon unless an evil hellspawn demon baby is concieved with me.
Alistair: Um.. ew?
Me: No way!
Morrigan: You totally have no choice! Demon baby or death, death or demon baby.
Me: Or we could have the dog to it.
Dog:  -sad whine-
Morrigan: ....... damnit.

Some players think the Joining envolves blood magic, could very well be true. In the Mage Origin, if you ask Ducan about blood magic he says that some grey warrdens have had to resort to using it. He even say that the chantry might be a little to obsseive in banning it and that it has its uses.

Unlikely considering Duncan says in Ostagar that Circle mages were helping to prepare the ritual, given that Templars were there watching them like hawks they probably wouldn't have been able to use blood magic.

Ah, thats true. Prehaps it just requires lots of lyrium which you can only get through the circle mages.

unless grey wardens have a dispensation for blood magic and that was why the templars were watching them like hawks

Duncan has a means to an end attitude, but the Chantry sure doesn't - they'd never allow blood magic Grey Warden or not.

Sort of like the Templars at Kenloch tower are watching the magi like hawks. And they don't have the destraction of a bustling war camp around them.

The Grey Warden ceremony is a secret, so it stands to reason the gunk they use isn't something the Templars know about.
