I watched the other guides they are too complicated and doesn't work according to players, I have a way and it works today I tested, my saves F***ED UP and i fixed it. Now I'm continuing my game :innocent:

Step 1: You have to create folder named "PS3" in your external hard disk or USB Flash Drive (they have to be formatted in Fat32) inside PS3 folder create folder named "SAVEDATA".
IMPORTANT :All folders must be with capital letters using Caps Lock
Example: lets say your USB(Hard Disk) is G: the file structure must look like this:
G:>>>PS3>>>SAVEDATA

Step 2: Connect the USB(External HDD) to your PS3 and turn it on,
Go in to the Game Menu >>>Saved Data Utility (PS3) inside on the top you should see folder named
"USB Device (Disk)"
If you see it you did everything right...

Step 3: To back up your saved games Game Menu>>>Saved Data Utility (PS3)>>>Mass Effect 2 enter insite with X you will see two files the first is your Profile the second is your Saved games push /\\ on the second and select Copy push X, it will ask you Select Destination USB Device (Disk) push X again... Congratulations your game is Backed Up :)
Important: Exit the Game every 1-2hours and back up your saved game using Step 3 it will ask you to Overwrite the previous ones do it!

Step 4: Now when your Saved Data Corrupts go to : Game Menu>>>Saved Data Utility (PS3) in the end you should see file named Unknown enter it and delete every corrupted file inside...

WARNING: DO NOT DELETE ENYTHING FROM YOUR MASS EFFECT 2 SAVED DATA OR THE GAME IT SELF AS THE OTHER GUIDE SAY!!!!...

Step 5: Go to:
Game Menu>>>Saved Data Utility (PS3)>>>USB Device (Disk) on the Mass Effect 2 push /\\ then secelct Copy the Ps3 will copy it automatically in the Mass Effect Saved Data...
And now you can continue from your last back up...

Important: when you enter the Game load only from the LOAD  GAME option!

Cheers :wizard:

Thanks for sharing. you could have told Back up your save game in stead of step 1, 2, 3 and 5 :P but thanks for the info. So if you don't delete the whole corrupted save data (step 4) you can just load your previous games without uninstalling the game?

the corrupted data can not be fixed so you dont need it.. The important thing is not to delete the profile data because when your save file corrupts the profile data stayes intact, and you just need to copy back the back up save data, works like a charm :)

No Uninstalling game needed, NO deleting any kind of game or save data..
Exept the corrupted one!

Just follow the steps

You can go inside a corrupted save file on the PS3? Just curious because I tried entering an uncorrupted save file for ME2 to see the individual saves and I couldn't.

it's not really a fix but more of "backup your save" kinda advice. I thought it was an actual fix for corrupted saves.

Do you even need folders in the USB drive?

It back up just fine anyway.

So... If you create another user in the xmb, you can also copy the save files to the other user account, and if your save file gets corrupt, you can just log-off your current user, log-in as the other user and copy the back-up file again to the user you were playing the game.

Isn't that a bit easier, or does it not work?

it doesn't allow me to copy the 2nd file of ME2, it says the copy of the files aren't authorized

I don't doubt evilroot's honesty, but can anyone else confirm that backing up the copyright free save and restoring it after corruption actually works?

Just to get this straight:

1: Play

2: Back up the save file that isn't copy protected

3: Corrupt

4: Replace the broken file with the back up (leaving the copy-protected file as is)

5: Carry on playing

This is exactly what I'm after as well. So far I've seen posts about successfully restored saves but also about non-succesfull backup/restores. The last success one was reported in 'Corrupted Save' thread by StokedUp.

So which one is it - works or doesn't work? Or is both; sometimes restoring succeeds and sometimes not? Or is there a certain way you need to do the procedure (in how many different ways you can copy a file, anyway...?)

So pls, those who have done this successfully do report - I want to know do I waste every night 50 seconds of my life in backing up the saves for nothing ;)

Perigee, I think the reason it doesn't work for some is that they are deleting both the corrupted data AND the copy-protected file as well- I think for a backup to work, you need to keep the file that you can't copy

Can anyone confirm this please?

Right, I agree with you on the copy-protected file (the character profile file), that you should not delete in any circumstances. That might be one possible reason for the failed attempts, of course....

It would be nice if Bioware could comment on whether it is even in theory possible to continue playing using this backup/restore procedure. I would assume that it's relatively easy to re-produce the fault in Bioware studios (Bioware has done fault correction so surely they've reproduced the fault) and simply test the backup/restore in practice. Then provide a granny-guide for those in the community who are not patient enough to wait for the patch (such as the undersigned).

Agreed, I am scared to play before the patch comes out, despite the play for a little while advice.

If this backup/restore thing works I will play without hesitation because doing this really wouldn't bother me.

Backup/restore worked for me.

I was backing-up my save file in another user profile.

When data got corrupted, I deleted the corrupt file and copied the backup file to the right user.

That was all.

Is it easy to copy the save to another profile? Is this done from the main account or the second user account?

yeh if ya have another user profile on your system when you go to the saved game it will give ya the option to either copy to that profile or to a flash drive if ya have one plugged in

ok cool, thanks. I never noticed the option to save to a different profile. I'll do both the usb drive and other profile just to be safe :D

Can anyone confirm that making breaks from game will help me avoid save corruption? Does bakup/restore thing as written above works?

I'm at the point when I can do Shadow Broker and I've already lost my 30h save game so I hope it won't happen again.

I've just finished the game yesterday!... I had a few more save corruptions, and restored it successfully....
As I wrote before, DON't touch the Profile Data(Copy protected file), just back up the saved data and restore it when corrupts...

At least 5-6 times worked for me till I finished the game....

But still I'm confirming that, I know you want second oppinion, but obviously the people are too scared to play....

The best game I ever played!!!....

Can't wait for Mass Effect 3 :wizard:

And one more thing, turn off the Auto Save, and the online, and don't move while saving, it corrupts less like this...
5-6 times till I finished the game!
