Obviously, from a game point of view, it would be difficult to program in a dossier in the Shadow Broker's files on Shep, because everyone will roleplay differently and have a good idea of Shepard's past, but as the first human spectre, you'd have thought that he'd have some info. So if we can't have it in game, post some of the files he had of your personal Shepard - his/her biography, extranet history, alliance profile, an online chat with a friend, an old mission briefing, a combination of the above or something else entirely, just something that will give us a little insight into how your Shepard ticks.

Here's some of mine, starting with transcript of a conversation Shepard had with another marine about her latest assignment - a routine investigation regarding the loss of contact with the colony Akuze.

*Hologram Opened*

Major Dexter Shaw: Hello Layla, long time, no see. Just called up to say congratulations. I just read about your new asssignment. Sounds like it could be quite prestigious.

Lieutentant Layla Shepard: Hey, Dex. Thanks for the enthusiasm, but it's just a routine mission. Chances are it's just bust communications.

Maj. Shaw
: And if it isn't? If batarians have taken it? Remember Elysium last year, the soldiers who saved it were all given medals. There's only a few of you this time, you won't have to share the glory!

Lt. Shepard: You and I have both been in the military long enough to know that there'll be precious little glory whatever's going on down there.

Maj. Shaw: So much cynicism for someone with so few missions under there belt. Besides, you volunteered for this, you must have some hope of a reward, and knowing you it's not money.

Lt. Shepard: What I hope is that if it is an attack I'll be able to save whoever's down there.

Maj. Shaw: If there's an attack, I know you'll save whoever's down there.

Lt. Shepard: I hope so...

Maj. Shaw: Don't worry, you'll be fine. I've seen you in action. You don't overanalyse, you think with your gut, and I've never met someone so good with tech systems as you. Besides, as you said, it's probably just a bust comm link.

Lt. Shepard: Thanks for the pep talk.

Maj. Shaw: Uh-huh. And when it's all over, make sure you come and visit the old unit. We've missed you, what with you constantly bad-mouthing the commander and such.

Lt. Shepard
: You know full well that's exactly why I had to leave, and why it'll be a while before I can see you again...
Hold on, I've got to go. Mission briefing. See you later.

Maj. Shaw: Ok, bye.

*Hologram Closed*

Lieutenant Shepard's squad was attacked by Thresher Maws and she was the only one to make it out alive. After a year in surgery and recovery, she returned to combat, a better soldier for the experience. Major Shaw was killed on Torfan in retaliation for the Skyllian Blitz.

I think the dossier should have Shepard's service history in a list like the time line, a message from his childhood (2 reds talking about Shepard, Shepard's mom talking to Anderson or someone and some Batarians talking about a great slave run) and something else with his other thing (sorry i have no creativity). But I like no dossier more, leaves more for my ****ty imagination :P

To Captain Hannah Shepard

You will hate me for telling you this but I wished you hadn't known I was back.

I could I have left with the memory that the hero of the citadel died saving Joker life a body that would drift in the infinite sea of stars that saw his birth forever.

Now the last you’ll hear of me might be the rumour of my affiliation to the galaxy most vile and hated man fighting a threat that never existed after having disappearing, but still thanked by all (except maybe the citadel council) to have manage to get rid of some of the universe most dangerous elements along with him.

Sorry if I’m blowing off steam at what is suppose to a more dramatic message, you don’t deserve it.

I won’t deny that I dealt with the devil, but I swear to you that even thought I did, I never stop to try to do good around me to make up for it. He won’t get the last laugh, not if I have anything to say about it.

At least I learned something, turn out even the most the irredeemable are not withouthope. Wish I didn’t reduced their life expectancy at the same time, but I’llfigure out some around that.

You always been an inspiration to me and dad also and everything a kid could ask from itsparent and perhaps you treated me better than I deserve.

I was on Illium and the citadel recently so I sent you the Christmas gift I would have sent you last year and the year before.

That is all

Ok...I have one request, if one year I haven’t communicate to you in one way or another. Please find operation chief Ashley Williams (although she might have gotten apromotion around that) and tell her she’ll always be in my heart (or even better quote some love poetry and say thoses are my word to her, actual poems not something you find in a valentine card)

Good bye, will hopefully see you soon

-Phil

Sorry for any misspellings, I'm kinda spitballing.

Shadow Broker Dossiers: Aftermath of Torfan

Admiral Hackett: So I assume you've heard about Torfan?

Alliance Parllerment member: Are you kidding? The entire damn galaxy heard!

APM: I assume your taking the proper disiplinary action?

Admiral Hackett: *sighs* We're prompting her to Commander and sending her on ops in batarian space.

APM: Are you joking! She should be undergoing a war crimes tribunal!

Admiral Hackett: The batarians are afraid of her. We can use that.

APM:She got most of her unit killed on that rock!

Admiral Hackett: You don't think I know that! She got the job done and if we punish her then the galaxy will think we're too damn shie to get our selves dirty.

APM: Fine... fine your right. I'll try and get this squared with the other members.

Admiral Hackett: Thats all I'm asking.

Heh. I'll bite. :)

Communications Log:

[Shepard_N7]:: Hey, mom. It's been a while.

[H_Shep]:: Keaton? Is it really you? Hackett and Anderson said you were alive, but...

[Shepard_N7]:: But?

[H_Shep]:: I wasn't sure what to believe. Especially with those rumors...

[Shepard_N7]:: Let me guess... about Cerberus?

[H_Shep]:: Are they true?

[Shepard_N7]:: I hate it, but... to a degree.

[H_Shep]:: Even after what happened on Akuze? Keaton... I know you know better.

[Shepard_N7]:: I know. Don't worry, I fully plan on making them pay. Can't say much more, this ship most likely has several surveillance bugs. Just know that I'm still me, and after my mission is done, I would like to get back into contact with the Alliance.

[H_Shep]:: You know they nearly brought you in...

[Shepard_N7]:: I know. I'd go gladly, especially since I have info on some top Cerberus operations I'm interested in handing over.

[H_Shep]:: That's good to hear... I miss you. Have you caught up with the crew that helped you with Sovereign?

[Shepard_N7]:: Yes. Garrus Vakarian, the Turian, and Tali'Zorah, the Quarian I mentioned, are with me on the ship now.

[H_Shep]:: And Cerberus is okay with that?

[Shepard_N7]:: They're desperate, and this mission is big. As important as Saren. They know that I'm in command of this ship.

[H_Shep]:: What about the others?

[Shepard_N7]:: Urdnot Wrex (the krogan) is on Tuchanka, trying to unite the clans, and I've been talking with Liara T'Soni, Benezia's daughter. I can't tell you what she's up to, but she's doing well.

[H_Shep]:: And Ms. Williams?

[Shepard_N7]:: ...Yes, I've seen her. It didn't go quite as I'd hoped...

[H_Shep]:: Doesn't surprise me. Give her time, I'm sure she'll come around. I'm still shocked to be talking to you like this, I can't imagine how I'd react to seeing you face to face.

[Shepard_N7]:: I know, it's just... hard. I love her.... I had no way of contacting her, but she acted like this situation was my fault. Garrus and Tali are here, and we weren't even involved, yet Ashley blew me aside...

[H_Shep]:: She contacted me, you know. After you... died.

[Shepard_N7]:: Really?

[H_Shep]:: Yes. We talked, and she was really hurt. I know that she's glad you're alive, just give her time.

[Shepard_N7]:: Okay. You've never steered me wrong in the past. Have to leave, just docking for my next mission. I might not be able to talk to you again for a while.

[H_Shep]:: I'll talk to you soon, Keaton. I love you.

[Shepard_N7]:: You too.

----------------------------------------

Whew... got a bit more into that than I had planned. :P Fun fun.

Personal diary of Zara Shepard

[Entry 1] So the Illusive Man is apparently quite convincing. In the space of several minutes I went from a vehement refusal to have anything to do with Cerberus to charging off on his mission. With his guns and his personnel. Huh. Wasn't I the person who talked Saren into shooting himself?

[Entry 6] My cabin seems decent. Although there's a display area for ship models. Really? A ship captain who collects ship models? If I ever settle down, maybe I can marry a nice accountant who collects abacuses.

[Entry 17] I called Anderson out on the fact that nearly everyone conveniently forgot about me. He says he sent me a message as soon as he heard I was alive. Wow. I wonder if he typed it himself too.

[Entry 36] Every time I talk to Jacob, I end up acting like a slightly tipsy hooker. I do not understand this.

[Entry 39] I met Ash today on Horizon. Given all the time that's passed, everything that's happened, it should have been a poignant moment, but... I swear the girl has gone cross-eyed. Honestly, I was struggling to keep a straight face. I am a bad person.

[Entry 52] Jack crushed four YMIR mechs when we released her from cryo. I took her with me to deal with some Eclipse mercs today, and she knocked some of them over. I hope she didn't strain herself.

[Entry 64] I'm pretty sure it's impossible to converse with Miranda without her trying to position her assets in the best light. Girl needs to come out of the closet.

[Entry 66] Mordin informed me that there was an outbreak of scale itch on the Normandy today. Apparently it's an STD transmitted from varren. Note to self: relocate my yeoman's workstation.

[Entry 72] Went to talk to Miranda today. She was busy.

[Entry 73] Tried to talk to Miranda again, but she was still busy.

[Entry 74] What is that woman doing? Alphabetising the names of every mercenary I've ever killed?

[Entry 76] I tried talking to Garrus for a change, but he's still doing "calibrations". I swear, if the guns on this ship can't shoot the horns off a Salarian at 5,000 clicks by now I'm going to be pissed.

[Entry 77] I walk into Miranda's office and she says "I wondered when you'd drop by". I'd kill myself, but Cerberus would just resurrect me again.

[Entry 81] Have I mentioned just how evil Chambers is? I check in with her, and as usual, there are new messages. This time, I didn't take the bait. I just stared her down for a good five minutes. Then I took one step away. "Commander, you have unread messages at your terminal". Damn she's good.

[Entry 112] Vasir essentially called me out on my cooperation with Cerberus. That doesn't bother me so much, except that I'm thinking of all the good comebacks now that she's dead. Story of my life.

[Entry 119] Whoa. There's a shower in my room.

Intercepted journal entry (post Akuze event):
To my sister, from Erica
For starters, yes, I know I lost you years ago.  Spending my last two days on Mindoir trying to appear just as lifeless as you were left no delusions in my head.  I just need tell someone what really happened, and not the b.s. I told the debriefers, so you have the (for want of a better term) honors.

First off, Mindoir's soccer team failed to make it the Cup, again.  If Nathan was on the  team, I swear they'd have the cup by now, but either he died during the attack, or the batarians...  Yes, I should be talking about Akuze, but this is my letter, damnit!, and I'll trail off if I want to.  Anyways, the newest omniglove UI just went on the market and, as usual, it's more about style than about practicality.  The UI does have some promising features, so I might get it.  It's still better than the Alliance's standard interface; their engineers have no imagination.

Fifty of us were on the surface responding to a distress call when it attacked.  We were a standard group, several medics, more soldiers, Commander Reilly, and me.  We had found the beacon, alone in a mock camp in a valley near a mountain range, and quickly discovered that the lonely beacon was also the only electronic equipment that could function in that damned valley.  I, being a  tech that also loved mountain climbing, was the natural choice to try to communicate from higher ground. About five minutes into the climb, the attack happened.  Yes, the Council races warned us about thresher maws, but it was just so unbelievably big!  It was just like the other attack, you already dead, me trapped in the rubble that was our home, trying to appear to the slavers just as lifeless as you were.  When the thresher maw had been gone for an hour, I called the ship and descended to the beacon site.

I relearned how horrific silence can be that day.  Once there was the sound of fourty-nine of my shipmates going about their business, now there was only the nagging voice in the back of my mind that this couldn't have been anything but a trap.  With what time I had, I searched the ruin for any evidence of a setup, but of course there was nothing.  So, what was I to tell the Captain, the board of Inquiry, the families? I lied, came up with a plausible story that still tastes like bile when it leaves my mouth.  And that is what happened.
End of journal entry.

Part 1

---

(Recording from SSV Einstein, 2170, following deployment to Mindoir after Batarian slaver attack. First recordings involving both Hann Shepard, “The Butcher of Torfan”, and Fideli Shepard, “The Sole Survivor.” (Shepards unrelated: See accounts of Torfan and Akuze for further history. )

Lt. Hannah Shepard: Fideli? Dear?

Fideli Shepard: Coming mom! What is it that- Mom! You’re bloody!

Hannah: Fideli! It’s alright! I’m alright!

Fideli: But-

Hannah: Calm down, Fideli. It’s not my blood, at least.

Fideli: Mother, what happened? I- no, stupid question, I know. Mindoir.

Hannah: Yes. I’ve been helping the refugees we’ve evacuated for better medical care than can be provided on the planet. Some of them… haven’t made it. Omnigel can only do so much.

Fideli: …is there something I can do to help over there?

Hannah: Dear, while it makes me proud to hear you offer, I don’t want you seeing this. What those Batarians did… was awful, even to the ones who weren’t taken. But there is something I would like to ask if it would be alright with you.

Fideli: Yes?

Hannah: One of the survivors we recovered… is in a bad way. He’s stable, physically, but he’s not very responsive. He needs to be watched over, but at the same time we can’t afford the people while there are so many more coming in every hour.

Fideli: And you want me to watch him?

Hannah: I hate to bring my work home like this, but I’d really appreciate it. I think it would be for the best: he’s your age, he’s just lost his family, and I think just being around someone his own age might help him cope.

Fideli: I understand, mother. I don’t mind.

Hannah: Thank you so much: this could mean a lot more than you realize. You’re always so helpful towards others. I’ll let the doctors know when I return.

---

(The first meeting of Fideli Shepard and Hann Shepard is in the next data log.)

Incidently, I really did just discover the shower, after like five playthroughs.

Yeah, same. I discovered it on my last playthrough. I bought the space hamster for the first time and I noticed it sitting on the shelf in the cabin. When I went closer to "inspect" it, the door opened out of nowhere and it nearly scared the crap outta me.

Thats pretty much exactly the same way that I discovered the bathroom..

Also, this thread is pretty interesting. Lots of imagination! I'd write my own but I just woke up and my brain is still zombified.

Recordings from Alliance survellance:
Dark room with Spartan furniture - locker and small bad. Perfectly ironed Alliance uniform lays straightened on the bad, a blond man sits on the floor nearby, highlighting his sniper rifle with omni-tool and doing minor repairment.
Image pops up from the tool, showing laughing teenage girl. Man furrows his eyebrows, looks at the picture some more, then accepts the video call.
Hologram displays in full size - the same person as on authorization, but now it's a young woman having several scars on her face. The longest apparently crosses both lips but is invisible under the layer of a bright red lipstick. The most noticeable detail is the messy cloud of curly blonde hair, matching in colour with man's - the hologram tries to imitate them so hard that entire room becomes filled with blinking light.

Alyson Shepard: Dad?
Man rises from the floor and crosses hands - this movement is uneasy for him, old trauma of thigh is getting more and more annoying. He looks straight at his heroic daughter, keeping silence.
Alyson Shepard: I know what happened on Torfan. I know that fat asses from command may do. If you need any help...
Magnus Ulrichsson: Been worse. I understand your tendency to jump and cover people with your own body, but trust me - I was fully aware about what I was doing, and I don't need to foil the reputation of Saviour of Elysium by this kind of connection.
Alyson Shepard: And what exactly am I supposed to do with my reputation? If my name should be forever connected with betrayal just to save people, I'd agree on it without thinking twice.
Magnus Ulrichsson: Become blamed for treason you haven't committed and really betray everything you believed in is two different things, Al. You won't ever send your squad to death, so don't pretend you jenuinely interested to save person who did it, unless...
Alyson Shepard (interrupts): ...Why the hell do you think I can't sacrifice my people?
Magnus Ulrichsson: Can you?
Alyson Shepard: How perfectly you know own daughter! I've seen reports from Torfan, maps, schemes - you haven't got other choice. If I were you, I would do the same.
Magnus Ulrichsson: We discussed for thousand of times...
Alyson Shepard (interrupts): ...that I'd be on the cutting edge, yes. Just because I'm a Vanguard while you're Infiltrator - we'd just do our job. When the time will come, I need to be sure everyone will do their job, and if I need to babysit every marine personally, I'll do it.
Magnus Ulrichsson (speaks slowly and bitterly): No matter the cost, job should be done.
Alyson Shepard: I just try to catch a perspective, rise the morale. So will you accept my help?
Magnus Ulrichsson: Why asking? Another rising the morale moment while you've already decided everything?
Alyson Shepard: You're my father, after all.
Magnus Ulrichsson (laughing): Would it change anything?
Alyson Shepard: No.

Letter to Operations Chief Williams
To:
Operations Chief Williams

Ashley,

Typing something like this out is awkward so you’ll have to forgive me if this isn’t the best letter. First things first, forgiving you have never been a question. I know we say things we don’t mean in the heat of the moment. Lord knows I never bite my tongue, so I don’t blame you. I don’t like the idea of working with Cerberus any more than you, especially for what they did to Admiral Hackett, but right now the stakes are too important for my emotions to get in the way.

The Council is back to playing dumb and the Alliance is too committed to the Citadel. For now, Cerberus is the only means of protecting the colonies. You know me Ash, I may have a reckless streak, but I wouldn’t work with Cerberus if I didn’t have a good reasons. And I know our meeting was brief, but I also never got to explain this to you. The mission I’m on, I might not make it. I was dead for two years, and the last thing I wanted to do was reopen old wounds only for me to go again.

But I don’t mean to say all of this to make you nervous. I beat the odds on Elysium and again with Saren. I’ll definitely make it back and when I do, me and you will set aside some time.

Until then,

Joshua Shepard

P.S:
I heard from Anderson that you were promoted to Operations Chief. I’m proud of you. I owe you a toast when I get a back.

Recording taken on Elysium, 2176

Lieutenant Commander Hannah Shepard: The Alliance sends you on shore leave to get you out of their hair, and you manage to save the colony from a Pirate attack, I don’t know whether to be proud or laugh.

First Lieutenant Joshua Shepard: Yeah well, they were out of drinks so there no point in hiding out in the bar. Figured I might as well step in.

HS: Hmm, proud or not I want you to know that was still an incredibly risky stunt you pulled.

JS: I know, it’s just…..dad always taught me never to give into fear. That if I have the ability to make a difference, I should.

HS: He always did say thing like that. Everyday you’re reminding me more and more of him.

JS: Mom you don’t have-

HS: No, I’m serious. Your father was a great man, because of him the Alliance was able to break through and save the colonists on Mindoir.

JS: Yeah.

HS: Oh, and I thought you’d like to know the Alliance plans to present you with the Star of Terra and promote you to Staff Lieutenant.

JS: Really?

HS: You held off an entire enemy regiment on your own and saved the colony. You deserve it honey.

JS:….

HS: What’s wrong sweetie?

JS: It’s nothing, it’s just, while I was down there, I think I finally understand why dad did what he did. Fighting to protect people, it makes leading a lot easier.

HS: Hmm, you save one colony and now you’re ready to lead troops. Until then, just know that I couldn’t be any more proud and thankful that you’re safe.

JS: Thanks Mom.

PS: What the heck?! I never noticed a bathroom in my cabin!

I probably wouldn't have even found the bathroom if it wasn't for these forums.  A poster asked offhand if anyone knew which way the toilet flushed in the captain's quarters and I had a whoa, there's a bathroom moment.  It's always the little things that get me.
