Question

I have done the suicide mission numerous times and tried several times to see if I can have 4 squadmates die, unloyal of course. I have had 3 die a lot but not 4. Is it possible to have 4 die when holding the line? Just so you know, I'm playing on the ps3, if that makes any difference.

Not unless you can find a way to have negative points when holding the line. 0.0 still gives you three dead. Unless PS3 follows different logic from other systems, which is conceivable given your earlier posts in this thread, which don't match the XBox/PC data in the flowchart.

I just finished the suicide mission.

I had 10 squadmates. Legion and Tali not recruited.

Garrus, Thane, Jack not loyal and Samara isn't loyal because I failed her loyalty mission

Only armor and Thanix cannon upgrades for the ship

Kasumi killed because I had no shields

Jacob killed trying to close the door

Jack carried away by the seeker swarm because Samara wasn't loyal and I had Miranda with me, who never gets taken by the seeker swarm

Mordin escorts the crew and lives

Garrus died as 2nd fireteam leader

Miranda and Zaeed fight the human reaper and live

Grunt, Thane and Samara alive after holding the line

I also experienced something weird:

- Everyone loyal

- Ship fully upgraded

- Full paragon (does not really matter)

- I choose Zaeed (Loyal) as leader of the first fireteam, Engineer (Legion (Loayal)) dies

*reload game*

- I choose Garrus (Loyal) as leader of the first fireteam, Engineer (Legion, again)) survives

I thought Zaeed was a seasoned warrior? And he was loyal, like everyone else on the team. How could legion not survive? :P

Continued after reloading, completed the mission with no one left behind :)

Miranda, Garrus and Jacob are the only ones that can be fire team leaders and have no death is those 3 are loyal. If Legion isn't loyal and does the vent he will be killed regardless of who the fire team leader is.

You think 'hey, lets try something else in Mass Effect 2', and before you know, half of fireteam two died  :o

I'm no expert at these calculations, but had you not had Miranda's loyalty then I'm pretty sure she would have died in the fight against the human reaper. You would have had 4 deaths (99% sure).

I didn't have her loyalty on one of my plays because I sided with Jack. I tried, but was unable to regain her loyalty, so my Shep got annoyed with her, took her along for the last fight, and she died.

What 4 deaths would I of had if she wasn't loyal? It would depend on what I did. If I was to do it differently with the same folks loyal and not loyal, I could have at least 6 deaths if Miranda isn't loyal

Whenever I do Miranda's loyalty mission, I do Jack's right away that way it makes it easy to keep their loyalty when siding with one or the other.

I read it wrong. I was referring to the much earlier post when you stated you could only get 3 deaths instead of four. Your next post on the suicide mission did in fact have 4 deaths, I missed one and thought it was 3.

did the suicide mission again

recruited all 12 squadmates

Mordin, Jack, Garrus, Thane and Jacob were the only one's loyal

Jack, Legion and Thane were killed because of no upgrades for the ship

Garrus killed trying to close the door

no escort for the crew

Jacob taken away by the swarm

Grunt as 2nd fireteam leader

Miranda and Mordin fight the reaper. Miranda didn't survive

Samara, Tali, Kasumi and Zaeed held the line.  Tali and Kasumi killed

Zaeed , Samara and Mordin alive

I killed Zaeed on his loyalty mission. So only Samara and Mordin will be in ME3

So I was thinking about my next playthrough (because the cycle must continue), and specifically about the suicide mission. I wanted to try and set it up so that Grunt "holds the line" at the final battle all by himself. I think I got it set up in this way:

Don't recruit Zaeed and Kasumi until after the suicide mission.

No Normandy upgrades means Jack, Tali (if I take Legion to fight the Oculus) and Thane die before we even arrive.

Jacob dies in the vents.

Miranda puts up the biotic bubble, and I bring Samara and Mordin with me, means Samara is carried off by the swarm.

Legion leads the second fire team and dies.

Garrus escorts the Normandy crew back to the ship. They live, Garrus lives but is now unavailable for the rest of the mission.

Take Miranda and Mordin with me to fight baby-reaper.

Grunt holds the line.

Grunt, Garrus, Miranda, Mordin, Zaeed + Kasumi (recruited afterwards) and the Normandy crew all survive into ME3.

I've never had Grunt by himself holding the line. I would be interested to know if he survives or not.

He does. And he enjoys the fight.

That's why I want to do it; give him the fight he's been looking for all his short life. :D

So much for needing 12 squadmates or even 8 just to get through the Omega 4 relay

If you go by that amazing chart from the beginning of the thread, in theory Garrus and Zaeed should be able to hold the line by themselves too.

I've never did with them either, but I have with Miranda by herself and Samara by herself, and both died. I will try that with either Zaeed, Garrus or Grunt the next time I play ME2.

When the oculus enters the shuttle bay, shep picks two squadmates to help him kill it. The first time, they chase it off. later it comes back and shep has to fight it again. Do you pick two squadmates again, or do you get the same ones you picked the first time?

You keep the same squadmates you picked earlier.

You keep the same squadmates.

The other thing is, the second oculus or it might be the same one, doesn't come through the hole already made in the Normandy, but makes another hole to enter.

I'm in the middle of my third play through of ME2. I forget that the suicide mission is quite a branching conundrum. Both times previously I've gone through the game, I've used a similar chart to make sure everyone stays alive. Call me crazy, but I want everyone to live and so I manipulate events to get that outcome.

It seems, however, it might be fun to just let the chips fall where they may and see what happens. As even Im typing that while at work waiting for something to update, I am nervous about that - can I let characters I love die??

And knowing what I know about ME 3 and the player's contributions there, it may be interesting to see what happens. If Mordin dies, he obviously is not able to do his thing in 3. Same for some of the others.

I admire all your attempts to show every combination. We'll see what I do when I get here: save everyone by cheating or just do things and see what happens. :)

Yes. It depends on what you do for the mission. There are numerous scenarios that can be done for the mission.
