All I'm saying is you folks can't have it both ways, Bioware had control of their own destiny and could have remained independent. So when they're called out on signing on for the dumb your rpg's down express, they're not blameless in it, just because EA's their parent now.

Again, no one is saying it's EA's fault except you(atleast in this thread.)  It is also largely inadvisable for devs to remain independent in bad economic times.

You guys do it all the time with excuse after excuse, shorter dev cycle, less budget, yada yada yada. Then get your underwear all in a bunch when someone points that out, and start name calling. It happens every time just like clock work.

You're right, we should reign this in.

As I have said, 7 party members is a pretty good amount I feel.

EA does not have unlimited resources. They make many games. Yes, they are an extremely wealthy company, but all of that wealth is not devoted to BioWare.

You see it as an excuse, I see it as a reason. A reason that needs to be kept repeated because others see it as an excuse.

Which would require them to negotiate game after game with a publisher for any new projects they wish to embark on.  Bioware is successful enough that funding and finding a publisher probably would not be a big issue, but is still an issue independent development studios have to deal with.

So when they're called out on signing on for the dumb your rpg's down express, they're not blameless in it, just because EA's their parent now.

I haven't seen any evidence to prove this "dumbing down" of RPG's.  Unless dumbing down means experimenting and changing things up one game to the next.  Probably since Neverwinter Nights, I don't think any game Bioware has developed has been the same thing as games previous, including sequels to their own IP's.

Shorter game, far far less customization, paraphrasing & voice overs, the list of questionable design decisions and "streamlining" for the masses goes on and on.

Except that we weren't really talking about until you brought it up in a thread which only barely related to what you were saying.  You also started the name calling, got your "underwear in a bunch" before anyone else, and so on.  But I'm used to that ofcourse.  "It happens every time just like clockwork."

If you know this will happen, why do you post here, anyway? Except if you love the attention I don't see any reason to keep going here, as you don't even try to be more sensible in your arguments.

I don't see what wrong with 7 either especially since the interactions are likely to be more complex than in DAO. Plus I reckon from the hints about what BW want to do with DLC that there is a chance other companions could be added via that route.

Dragging the thread off-topic into a discussion about what makes an RPG by citing design decisions as objectively Y despite their being subjectively X, goes on and on...

...anyway, I'd like to make an on-topic comment, but I think I said my piece in my first post in the thread.  Obviously I hope that the lower number of companions directly correlates with more content per companion, but that is by no means assured.

This thread is probably going to be closed. Howewer, I try to return on topic.

The party in DA2 have only one party member less than DAO, and this was including Dog. Plus Bioware said that we're going to get some temporary companions, which is a thing I like.

I think we'll get Nathaniel (because Pirate Laidlaw is, liek, REALLY SUBTLE RITE?). I'd love it. It's a shame he can't be a party member, though, I like him way more than Anders.

I also like temporary companions.  They can be a good opportunity to have larger-scale battles since you can have way over-levelled  temporary companions.

Shorter site rules: Don't be a jerk.

Longer site rules:

Given that its only 1 person dragging the thread OT I hope you don't lock it, surely it would be preferable to warn that 1 person.

I'm hoping that we get temporary companions that have atleast some substance to them (less than main companions but more to them than the ones in Origins).  DA:O only had them in the Origin stories where they usually get a one way ticket to a horrible death (along with Daveth and Jory), or exist purely to have a full party for combat (Ostagar tower defense troopers).

I should get the Fail Cat award... not only did I ignore Seb Hanlon a bit... (I may have been typing when his post came up)... But I read that as people were ignoring Sebastian, the DLC guy.:?

I would say its 50/50 shot that people listen to the mods when they step in like that. I am at the point I wish they would at least try deleting the posts, banning the habitual violaters who they warn on a daily basis, and not lock the thread.

As far as companions are concerned. If they are going to be playing a role in the story then I would like them to be as fleshed out as possible. If that means there are less companions because they have more depth then I am find with that.

Im guessing we get mission specific companions.  Unfortunately it may not be an option to not have them in your party.  Im okay with it as I can work my party around whatever temp character joins but some people dont like that.

also Im curious if anyone knows about companions rivalry system.  I may just start a thread to find out.

We're not sure about Anders. Though I liked both in Awakening, my preferite party was formed by them plus Oghren.
