I'm sure there are lots of threads already on this, but I haven't participated in this so I will just lend my "no" vote.

How would Multiplayer even work? A lot of the game is dialogue - how would you even pick who gets to affect what happens? When would you even get to Multiplay? Just add a controller / computer for someone to play one of hte squadmates, or are you suggesting multilple commanders?

Why create a TRILOGY and then turn it on its head for the final installment? THey already created expectations from ME1 and 2 - turning it multiplayer now would just cheapen it IMO. IF they wanted to make a spinoff game with very little story but multiplayer that would be fine I guess; I wouldn't buy it though.

First and foremost these are story/RPGs. I spend less time in action than I do exploring or talking.

Just speculation, but if you take the trailer as a hint, MP wouldn't be in the main game at all.  BW might as well slit its own throat if it did that.  It would be separate from the game most likely take place on earth and/or different places w/in the galaxy, fighting off the Collector/husk horde.  Not sure if you would play Shepard, Grunt, Garrus, etc or be able to choose your own race, Krogan, Turian, etc, etc.  The latter would actually make for a great MP experience, but to do it justice it would almost have to be its own game.  All that said, I still vote NO MP for ME3.  BW/EA is going to do what it wants to do, but why muck up a sure thing just to entice a few CoD refuges?  ME is a great SP game and should end on that note.  Devote all the resources into what made the game a slam dunk in the first place.  Then make a great ME FPS/MP for the spin off.

The sad part is the fact that ME3 is the finale of a very, very personal and story-based trilogy. A multiplayer component is quite literally the worst possible addition one can think of.

I hope BioWare realizes that we don't necessarily HATE multiplayer, but rather we're stating just that -- ME3 is not the game for multiplayer. BioWare is more than welcome to make a multiplayer game and I would personally buy it if it were a spin-off that takes place in the ME universe, but NOT a part of ME3.

Honestly, I don't think it'd really be that terrible for there to be multiplayer in Mass Effect, as long as it didn't affect the main component of the game, and I've got enough faith in Bioware to believe that if they did add multiplayer to a character-based story like ME, they wouldn't let their general quality slip.

Not that I actually expect it to happen. I really doubt Bioware would go in that direction after spending so long dedicated to single player. Have to admit, though, the idea of playing through a ME campaign with a buddy on split-screen or online co-op would be pretty fun.

This is the reason why any multiplayer in Mass Effect would end up like the MP in Bioshock 2.  It would either have next to nothing to do with the single player game, or require that single player game to be gutted.

I agree with that statement 100%.

Honestly, MP should be left out of ME3 and saved for a spin-off title. I'd rather all the time and effort be given towards the single player for ME3.

I agree with this, but would add....

I want all resources devoted to the single player campaign in ME3... but for a Mass Effect multiplayer game, I also want most all of the resources devoted to the multiplayer.

In other words, I don't want just subpar versions of both by putting them in the same game.

I agree with this. I would actually like to play a ME multiplayer game. But I would like it to be one built from the ground up for MP. Tacking it onto ME3 will weaken ME3 and will only be a cheap crappy MP at best.
I will not even try out the MP in ME3 if its in but I would buy an ME game built for MP from the get go.

Should there be multiplayer (MP) in ME3?

NO

Reason: Mass Effect 3 is the trilogy's ending. It is supposed to be the most epic, and overall, the best of the three. Bioware should devote all resources to the plot so it CAN be the best. Also, adding multiplayer would be a bad idea for a single-player game. Why? Because the single player always suffers. Let me give you two esamples of single-player games that have recently added multiplayer.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Assassin's Creed is known for the SINGLE player. NOT the MULTIplayer. When MP was added, guess what? The single player part (the part that made AC what it is today) suffered. Most say that the single player is too short, pointless, boring, and should have been developed more. But where did all those resources (the ones that should have been i the single player) go to? It went to the multiplayer. Overall, AC:B is seen as the worst of the three AC games.

Dead Space 2

Dead Space is a great game for single player. This is pretty much the same as AC:B, except for one thing: THE MULTIPLAYER IS FREAKING STUPID. 'Nuff said.

Here's the next part.

Should there be multiplayer in a Mass Effect game?

YES

Reason: There are many things in Mass Effect that could be turned into a spinoff, multiplayer-featuring game. The First Contact War would be a great place to start. But hear me on this: BIOWARE SHOULD NOT BE THE ONES DOING THE MULTIPLAYER. Why? Bioware is more suited for single player games. Bioware should work with a company that makes awesome multiplayer games, like DICE (Battlefield games). That's the only way for there to be a good Mass Effect game with multiplayer.

So in the end, this what it should be:

NO MULTIPLAYER FOR ME3

THERE SHOULD BE MULTIPLAYER IN A SPINOFF GAME ONLY

That's all I wanted to say.

Dead Space 2 has a great single player and they also put in a multiplayer... which is actually pretty good. if a great single player franchise like dead space could pull it off im pretty sure bioware could....AS LONG AS THE EMPHASIS IS ON SINGLE PLAYER AND STORYLINE

But i would also rather see it in a spin off

Dead Space 2 has brilliant single and multiplayer. The multiplayer has to be the most addictive I've ever played. Lots of emphasis on team work and objectives with every game being an intense action packed affair from start to finish.

In all truth that would be awesome. A 4D Mass effect MMO? Hell yeah!

I've imagined it.
It sucked.

It's not extended Mass Effect playtime, it's a few random shooting scenarios with player controlled enemies.
Mass Effect is an action/RPG, and there's nothing RPGish about the picture above.
Mass Effect is Shepard's story. If it's a mutliplayer game, it sucks.
It sucks because it means less resources for Shepard's story.

As for quoting Evil Chris
"Mass Effect is a single-player game."

I would love a battlefield clone/spin off (Not COD, battlefield) that takes place in ME., but I don't think competitive MP would work in the TPS/RPG-ish gameplay that makes up the trilogy. I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised by it though.

Ever play Battlefield 2142? I loved it!

I love ME2's gamplay myself and I think it would do great as a spin-off. Putting it with ME3 would take up much needed disc space from the singleplayer.

I could not possibly...and I mean that with every fiber in my being...be more against multiplayer in Mass Effect.

The thought that multiplayer would be put into the FINAL GAME in our Shepard story is such a sickening idea that I literally CANNOT believe that anyone who truly cares about the story...and it ending on a high note, would actually want this garbadge in the game. Its simple, anyone who wants multiplayer in ME3 simply does not care about story like I and many others in here do...either that or they are HORRIBLY mistaken when they say they believe multiplayer does not hinder the single player experience, because it absolutely does in every SINGLE way possible. Anyone who doesnt understand that one basic thing doesnt know gaming...there is a million examples right in your face...and it doesnt change a damn thing that there is 2-3 games out there now that have multiplayer as well as a good single player experience when the facts show %97 of freaking games with multiplayer come at the expense of completely gutting the single player into a short rushed POS

All that even aside...Do people not see the fact that TIME SPENT ALONE would GUARANTEE ME3 to be less satisfying story and content wise than ME2? ME2 came out just about two years after ME1, and some people...rightfully so complain that ME2 was not what it should have been...many things in ME2 got the shaft in place of them making it more into a shooter. Now lets take the same scenario for ME3, except its not a gameplay adjustment they are making, ITS AN ENTIRE MULTIPLAYER MODE they are making...The time...the resources...To anyone with an ounce of sense in their head, that PROVES...that TIME WISE...they can not possible make ME3 any better than ME2

I will be insanely bummed in I hear ME3 has multiplayer in it...If it does I simply wont be buying it..I will rent it and thats it...For ME3 to have multiplayer would show Bioware to have done everything in their power to RUN away from the trilogy they originally lead me to believe they where making, just to turn it into a mindless boring shooter with no depth that can compare to Halo. I can live with the shooting aspect ME2 brought in, I like shooters...But I enjoy a break from mindless shooting from time to time for a good story and lots of options and things to do BESIDES shoot. At the end of the day I simply know better than to expect ME3 to be the quality it SHOULD be if theres multiplayer in it...If it has multiplayer...it will be hindered in every sense...there would be absolutely no reason to expect it to be any better than ME2...
