Despite my multiple PTs of this series. I have yet to allow the Assault Rifles much use being that I fancy Vanguard and Infiltrator. That said, I had been contemplating a AR Sentinel with the aggressive build in mind. Rummaging around the forum, it may be best to flip to a Soldier if I intend to run an AR. Thus, I ask is it better to go Shotguns with Sentinel and keep ARs to Soldiers?

Sentinel with the Geth Plasma Shotgun is a monster.

I only play Vanguards, but I've seen the wreckage that can ensue when you have the GPS in someone's face with the Sentinel and its shield explosion.

Sentinals can also work with Assault Rifle, and really reinforces their role as JoAT (Jack of All Trades). I agree that shotguns are plain nasty, but AR are locked initially to one class initially for one reason.

The Mattock (OP!!!! *faint*).

Assault rifles are fine, but with the Locust you can swap between the SMG's for different missions, so ARs can get redundant.

So, I would recommend going with the Shotguns with the Sentinel, especially if you are planning to use Assault Armor.

I go with AR.

Perfect balance, in all things.

Who wants balance if you might aswell get carnage?
I approve that you can play pretty aggressively with the Mattock too (less so with other ARs), but making use of the Sentinals durability to get up close with the Eviscerator or GPS is much more satisfying, like the Vanguard with Claymore.

Everyone to their own, but balance isn't the top of all things, just to put it out there.

Because i have my Vanguard for up close carnage? Or my soldier.

You know what they can't do?

Have a balance of powerful biotic and tech powers while being the toughest class in the game and having the most flexible weapon in the game.

I'd try AR training despite never taking it myself, however think about the range you'd get with the Mattock and the available powers the Sentinel has. Shotguns suit the Sentinel but Assault Armor's shield regen and the pulse does make the game feel quite easy imho and after getting the Guardian passive it feels silly as you're essentially replenishing 2 shields every 6 seconds.

Depends on your own preference, do you want to play your sentinel like a vanguard or do you want to play more like a 'caster'?

I totally see your point, but my argumentation based on the OPs statement he fancy's his Vanguard (among else) so I figured he'd like something more aggressive. Besides, the power layout of the Sentinel already make it very versatile, so why make a "Jack of all trades 2x" if you can have "Jack of all trades + Attack focus".

+1

Boom-boom-POW - Shotguns all the way for CQC Sentinels! The Locust and your non-stop powers barrage will be enough to cover the midrange.

I used to take the AR for the Mattox mainly for Scons, Harbringer, IFF core etc and the Reaper ... BUT the M5 really does a number on them (and kills the reaper IF you shoot for his EYES!) so lately I have been taking the SG. The GPS blows off Barriers, Shields AND Armor with gusto plus you can CHARGE up the shot for even MORE damage (takes 2-3 seconds) and special effects.

I use Eviscerator or Katana. Just because I play classes that are limited (have a downside) on purpose..for me, it is just much more fun to play.

Shotgun. You're a walking tank that blows up. Might as well be in somebody's face with a shotgun when you explode.
