I can't believe I never noticed this before, I feel like a massive idea. But I'm either semi-colour blind or the Qunari no longer have bronze skin. This... bothers me far far more than the horns

Humans and elves have variations in skin pigment. If there can be white and brown skinned humans, why not white and bronzed skinned qunari?

I think it might be Tribal paint or maybe the hornless Qunari have bronze skin only.

I believe it was, hm, Mike Laidlaw who answered 'yes' that if Sten were to hypothetically return he would have the same skin tone. I can't remember where this was said but I will dig.

So I suspect it's just a variation in skin tone like any other race. There are just more grey ones about this time.

I like how everyone rationalizes this. The truth is Bioware completely changed everything about the Qunari. However Bioware want to explain it that is the truth. Continuity be damned. I am not saying this is good or bad. Just that this is what happened and we have to accept it.

the horns i can chalk up to Bioware just changing the design (though even then, the original Qunari concept art and the presence of horns on ogres in DAO suggest otherwise) but i'm just curious as to how you're so certain that these are all changes bioware decided to make for DAO instead of differences/variations they'd already had in mind earlier?

Is this another one of those threads where you have to believe visual continuity matters deeply in order to post? Because we haven't had one of those in at least a few hours.

It's true. BioWare 'completely changed everything' about the qunari.

When we meet them in DA 2, they'll be a race of tiny, peaceful people covered in fur who fix their problems by having communal orgies. The Qun is now based on Rastafarianism.

When we next meet Sten, he'll look like this:

Wow way to be dramatic.  What I meant was how they look.  I know they will be the same old Qun loving invaders from before.  But they look nothing like they did before.  Same with the Darkspawn. Bioware changed the look.  I think Bioware has said that the Qunai now look as they wanted them in DAO but they didn't have time/resources to make Sten how they wanted.  Bah whatever.  Have fun...

WTF?! You're telling me the qunari no longer have bronze skin? That's it, I'm not buying this game! It's all gone to hell!!!
(you catch my sarcastic drift?)

Oh wow... thats speciall. I'm actuallly not even sure what I was trying to say.

Visually continuinity doesn't  bother me, that much it just is something that, stuck out to me.

Besides with all the resposted questions you'd think you'd all just be resigned to this sort of thing, I know I am

So what? In the Tome of Knowledge they had golden skin, in DA:O they had bronze skin, in DA2 they have grey skin. What's the big deal? Just look at orcs in... pretty much any universe (other than Warhammer and Warcraft). They never seem to be able to decide whether they should be sallow, have black, grey or whatever skin. And I'm not talking about differences between different fantasy settings, I'm talking about differences between different adaptations of the same fantasy setting.

As long as their culture hasn't been retconned, I couldn't care less.

That's how Maria communicates. Extreme hyperbole and underhanded sarcasm. "Rational conversation" isn't exactly in her lexicon.

It's perfectly rational to point out the silly irrationalities of others, and as long as you're fixing people's brains for them, why not have fun in the process?

Heh. Underhanded sarcasm. He he hehh heh.

One of the conditions of the Llomeryn accord was for the Qunari to get crates and crates of spf 60 sun screen. The buggers don't think the accord is binding but they still take our best Shea Butter and Coconut scented sunscreen.

It's perfectly asinine to take something someone says and turn it into hyperbole for the sole purpose of insulting them. And it's Maria 101.

Yes? Of course we've changed how they look. Considering how many things are changing all at once, it's not like up is now down and nothing will ever make sense again, if that's what you're implying. Primarily this is a shift in style... and in the case of the qunari we are also saying (despite the fact that we could have not done so, had we wished) that the old skin color and lack of horns is also part of the lore and you will no doubt see both again.

Isn't that just one of those things that you say though? Like "We may return to a silent protagonist system in future titles" and such? We won't really get both styles of Qunari or silent protagonists.

For all we know, bronze/gold skin is the Qunari equivalent of dark skin on other races.

No, there is a difference between "will no doubt" something and "may" something.
