And for the record, I knew the Mako had a machine gun, but I didn't know about the cannon until about halfway through the game... that made Thresher Maws WAYYY tougher than they had to be.

Hmm... major "DOH!"

Hardest boss fight I had was the Krogan battlemaster with his geth troops at the end of the Liara recruitment mission (Therum is the name of the planet, IIRC).  You start out in the middle of a kill zone; Geth troopers and Geth sniper are dangerous at range, and the Krogan can ruin you up close.

Benezia was really rough for me as a soldier because there was nothing i could do to stop her or her minions from using powers on me. But the krogan on Therum was wy worse for me. Once again there was nothing i could do as a soldier to stop him from charging me. So it was either stand there and get bashed to death by him or get 1 shotted by the sniper/mowed down.

I now realize that there are strategies to beat the krogan without him charging you but i didnt know that at the time.

Well there are for sure some "hard" parts of the game. Though generally it's not the Bosses themselves, but rather the minions. Of course ME1 doesn't really have too many Boss fights per say in comparison to ME2. Then there's also the fact once you get to Level 40-50 there's very little that can stop you.

Still I'll list the fights I consider difficult...

Therum Geth Ambush
This one can really be a headache, generally cause your squadmates die quickly and the Geth Snipers can easily one-shot you. The Armature doesn't make things any easier. I always save before this encounter.

Therum Krogan Battlemaster
This fight isn't real hard til the Battlemaster charges at you full speed. If he goes after you you're generally screwed less you can take him down really fast. Definitely a difficult Boss no doubt about it.

Feros Krogan Room
That one room with the OSD can be a pain since you have no real cover, and very little space to fight three charging Krogan.

Feros Clone Asari Ambushes
These ambushes can really be a pain, especially if you're a lower level and don't have a lot of Biotics to rely on. Even if you can kill the Cloned Asari the Creepers can still get ya by spewing acid all over you and squadmates.

Geth Outpost on Antibaar
This is probably the hardest Outpost to take out even with the Mako. It's hard to get a good shot in on the Colossus and the Snipers/Rockets won't help matters. I almost always end up having to wait for the Mako's shields to recharge, which takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r.

Wrex's Armor Quest
The mercs in this mission are generally pretty tough and will spam immunity. Damn near impossible at lower levels.

Benezia Battle
This fight has a bad tendency for glitches. Still it's very easy to get overwhelmed by enemy Biotics. Also Benezia herself is pretty dangerous and can easily tear you apart just with gunfire.

Biotic Terrorsit Ship
Getting spammed with Biotic Throw will leave you pretty much helpless. Nuff said.

Rachni Brood Warriors
Ugh I hate those things. As if normal Rachni charging at you aren't bad enough, Brood Warriors have a number of Biotic powers themselves. Luckily you only ever have to fight two of them.

Lunar Base
I hate rocket drones. A few rocket volleys and you are dead. Basically if you don't use the chokepoint or too many come at you... well you will have a very bad day. Sabotage is a must for this mission.

The hardest part of the game for me was Ahern's Mission on Pinnacle Station. Nowhere in the game I was stucked, but here.
I did it many times even in normal difficulty.

The last sentence isn't entirely true. There are several more Brood Warriors on Altahe (listening post Theta planet), but they are in an unmarked colony so most people miss it. It is a great place for XP, though.

The hardest for me were the rocket drones in the Rogue VI sidequest, and those aren't even bosses. Jumpy Saren was tough too, but by then I had enough skill points and big guns to enjoy taking him down.

Benezia was easy. Her mighty door opening skills didn't impress me. What I did like about her is how she dies: 'No light? but they always said...' I reckon this has probably upset some religious people in America?

I found all of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2s Boss Battles fairly simple and easy to complete! Some needed more strategy than others while some where just shoot, cover and shoot!

Really, hmm wow never knew about that. This really gives me the impulse to actually fully explore the planets with the Mako. But a playthru like that would take probably around 60 hours...

There are quite a few unmarked locations in ME that you only find by driving around. Some are easter eggs like the aviator corpse on Agebinium, while some are worth quite a few XP like the unmarked turrets on Luna or the second thresher maw on Nonuel (the first being easy to find near a mineral deposit).

Incidentally, my first playthrough was 60 hours almost to the minute.

Mainly because i didnt realize the Mako had a cannon...

Uhm, seriously ... how can you NOT realize the Mako has a cannon the moment you saw it the first time!?

Don't laugh, I had the same exact problem =P

Somehow I find myself in need of a little facepalm. No malevolent one, just to express my genuine surprise on how people actually missed the Mako has a gun Image IPB

Well in my case I thought the Mako only had the machine gun. I spent a few missions machinegunning the crap out of armatures and thresher maws before I discovered the cannon.

I would have said Benezia since on Normal I had a lot of trouble with her, but on Insanity I beat her faster than I'd ever beaten her on lower difficulties (even Casual!).

My first time I fought Benezia 30 times. It took me ten tries to realize that shooting at her does nothing. It took me after that 15 tries to take out her minions sucessively. and the final 5 for when she got re indoctrinated and started chasing me. Man that pissed me off, lol

I had the hardest time with Benezia because of bad luck. First 4 times I fought her, her intial throw knocked me and the cover stuff around, which results in a perma-stunned shepard who can't get up or shoot. I was so angry, because I was level 40ish Adept at the time and I knew my biotic resistance was way better than that. I finally read somewhere about how throwing into cover causes the lockdown. So I ran to the side immediately and then that fight was cake. So annoyed after that.

The geth storyline was never hard for me, but I almost always have someone with max lift by then so the enemies are cc'ed.

It took you only an hour to beat Benezia? I died 30+ times....literally...and I'm a seasoned gamer, seasoned rpg gamer at that, and had a great feel for Mass Effect at that time (even though it was my first mission after the Citadel). Plus...it was on normal to boot!!!

That came unexpected....that vicious battle. It was tough. But I appreciated it, BioWare....I love challenges and it was a long time since I was pushed like that. Good stuff.

That's not necessary if you stand on the walkway on the far side of the room - Benezia doesn't move and the commandos (with instakill biotic knockdown ability) can't hit you either.
The krogan battlemaster (if Shepard is not a biotic) / lunar base (if Shepard is a biotic) is much harder.

I've never had any issues with Benezia (beat her first try, even on insanity).

I always bring Liara to Noveria. Put some points into Liara's biotic skills, then hit the Asari commandos with Lift. The commandos spawn in small groups, so its easy to use singularity/lift to disable them. Once they're in the air, they can't cast anything and they can be killed easily. Even if they pop a barrier, it's just a couple extra seconds of gunfire.

I think the Krogan Battlemaster on Therum is the hardest part of the game. Mainly because the main biotic-user is busy cowering on the floor (which REALLY, REALLY, REALLY pisses me off. I _HATE_ damsel in distress plots.) So if Shepard isn't playing Adept, the Krogan's charge can be an absolute pain in the ass to deal with. Especially because I do Therum first, so I haven't unlocked Bastion yet (when playing as Adept).

For some reason the hardest part for me has always been those two turian assassins near chora's den at the beginning of the game. They always pull out their shotguns and flank me and I can never do anything about it but reload and reload.. and restrain myself from throwing my controller at the wall in rage

You can throw them over the ledge for instant death.Or you can go the volus instead to harkin and this fight didnt happen.

Ground troops sure, but you also deal with throngs of Colossi, Armatures and Primes. So you have to find a place where, from the Mako, you can see all the enemies so that you are not getting rocketed and plasma-balled from behind 4 times a second. It's alot of Mako jump, reposition, press Shift twice to get the scope, fire one rocket, press shift two more times to get back to regular Mako view, check if anyone is raping you with rockets, move back into position, ooh, better jump now, okay, press shift twice to get the scope up, fire one rocket, press shift twice again so you can move around, etc. etc. etc...

Mostly, it is just tedious. There is some difficulty, but not in the normal sense. It is difficult because ****ing up once generally means instadeath or waiting forever for the Mako shields to come back up.

I used the mako to kill enemies only in my first gameplay. When I learned that I can win almost the double of XP if I kill enemies on foot, I just start using the mako only to weak the enemy. This way is a lot more fun, change completely the way you play secondary missions and others places you use the mako.

Yes, and every time you have to watch that god damn cut scene with the lift and radioing Joker. Nearly drove me spare.

this is the worse thing in ME1. This damn stupid scene you have to see over and over again, every time you die! This is the biggest mistake in ME1..

Wich part is more dificult, depends when you go to thet part. If you go first to Noveria, Benezia will be the hardest boss. If you go first to Therum, will be the Krogan masters. They all are hard on lowest levels and easy in highest levels.

Also, the class and the squadmates you use changes completely the difficult. In my first gameplay, I used a Soldier and go to Therum. Almost quit fighting the Krogan Battlemaster. But with Adept, Engineer and Vanguard, I almost don't get killed
