AR is quite powerful, almost game breaking. Wondering if anyone has even bothered to play Soldier strictly without the use of AR (even as far as putting no points in it, as not to give in to temptation) and actually having to rely on your own shooter skills with support from squadmates more predominant.
Question is; would it be worth doing for another playthrough?
Soldier without Adrenaline Rush?

Soldier is all about AR. He has no other powers.

On my first ME2 playthrough I was a soldier w/o AR... The best you can run a maxed out Flashbang Grenade and play like a gimped cqc infiltrator / shotgun engineer... It's fun, but you'll feel like an idiot b/c a conventional AR soldier w. Flashbangs/Stasis can do all the same things faster, safer and better.

The whole point of ignoring AR is to illicit more of a challenge to the Soldier, and of course that means playing like a gimped version of it. To some extent ammo powers and squadmates would be more valued as you'd no longer be invincible without AR.

For an even greater challenge, dump all of your points in Concussive Shot as soon as you can.

My soldier doesn't use Adrenaline Rush because I don't like "bullet time" powers. I find it annoying and boring.

Then there's no problem. ME2's straightforward enough that you should be able to beat it as a soldier w/o AR. Like I said, I've done it already. You may/may not run out of ammo occasionally, but even insanity should be reasonably doable with just shooting and covering.Sparroww wrote...

I used Flashbangs for my original playthrough, in place of AR. But FBs are also considered OP.

Heavy Concussive Shot. None of this AoE BS!lazuli wrote...

I actually remember my frist play through as a soldier before i got to these forums. I rarely used AR all that much. Since it was my first play through, I probably died more than I shold lol. I'm tempted to try another Soldier game one of these days and utilize the AR skill more to see how it goes.

I dont use AR in combat when I play a soldier. Decent tactics and good aim is all I need. Oh, and the occasional elbow of death.
I do use AR for sprinting across empty spaces though.

My current Soldier's build has 0/10 AR and 10/10 Heavy Fortification.
Still, AR's fun if you use it to get in melee range like a BAWSS.

i always play soldier and i never use adrenaline rush, and i only play on insanity. honestly id rather use my power to use a concussive shot to knock down a charging krogan and give me extra time to reload and finish him off, CS to lay heavy damage on a hostile's barrier, CS to instant kill a husk once i have the armor level destroyed, or use geth shield boost to allow me to lay suppressive fire longer

AR also lets you do just that.
