No. The toolset needs SQL server installed in order to work. Just patch Windows XP to SP3.

Works with SQL 2008, and probably would work with MSDE though I doubt anyone tried. You must have a MS SQL instance to connect to and doesn't have to be same machine (if you have full sql for some reason) but still requires one. Not sure if SQL 2008 requires sp3 but I expect so.

MSDE is limited to databases 2GB in size; you can reach that limit pretty quickly with a toolset like this and a decent sized campaign. I'd recommend against trying. (As well: MSDE was only available with SQL Server 7 and SQL Server 2000 compatibility, so if the toolset uses any SQL 2005 specific syntax or capabilities they'd also fail.)

SQL Server is used by the toolset to maintain the source code and data for the toolkit. It is part of what allows multiple folks to work on the same set of data; that is why it is required for the toolkit to function.

like stunthope said, just patch up to SP3, you should do this anyways, only reason at this time i can think for someone NOT to get new patchs is if they are planning on buying a new computer or upgrading ot windows 7 within the next month, max
