gameguides for rpg's ???
Why should someone do this ?? aren't we all able to play alone without any help or guide?
I could understand it for trophy hunters, but for that, there are internet sites.
in any case, there are a lot of free guides on the web... much much better than the ones written by prima.
Most can and do complete their games without requiring any form of assistance, but the reason for their purchase of a strategy guide is not to have a helping hand during a standard playthrough. I for one appreciate having printed media, especially a decorated hardcover filled with illustrated subject matter pertaining to a videogame I enjoy -- don't even get me started on the pungent redolence that permeates through every fresh, glossy page of Piggyback's tomes.
Now of course, I do also use them as a reference whenever and wherever convenient, although comparitively they're but a minor source of my reading indulgence. Given enough time after a game's release, wikis are richer in content and far more accurate than their printed counterparts as they're continuously updated and revised alongside a game's patches, and their contributors are at liberty to delve into the finer nuances of a game's intricacies and mechanics. A general exception to this would be Japanese RPG's and their corresponding guide books which can span well over 1000 pages combined. I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy X and own all three of its Ultimania guides, and no English source can compare to the information they provide.
