So now the reapers have to begin their assault in a whole new fashion which even though they are an ultra intelligent race will likely be disorienting because the major basis of their previous success was that the hub of civilization was eliminated first, severing all communication. This doesn't look to be happening so resistance will be much more coordinated giving the reapers a run for their money. They'll have to spread their forces all throughout the galaxy to keep the spacefaring societies from amassing a threatening resistance in time, in other words keep the separate races in disarray. So I really don't see this first week's casualties as being low. The reapers are feeling more threatened than they likely ever have because we've thwarted two of their major plans so they're rushing their invasion. We are a crop to them, no farmer is going to harvest their crop by nuking it. I'm sure the reapers want the planet to remain habitable if possible so another civilization can spring up for them to harvest down the line.
Also, @vaenier, to me the swarms were collector tech which was either destroyed or taken control of by us. Sure the reapers still hold the info needed to create more but they also view the collectors as a total failure (harbinger's words not mine) therefore possibly scrapping all they were doing. If we have control or had destroyed all of the swarms it's likely that the reapers would need to harvest more organic life before they would be able to create more of them.

Why is there even a resistance? Why dont they just drop seeker swarms on the planet and call it a day? Or will they just say the only swarm in existence was on the collector base and the reapers never bothered to bring some with them even though they are the most overpowered weapon in the galaxy.
You really think seeker swarm will help against 11 billion people?
And yes, seeker swarms were only on Collector base, why the hell Reapers would carry them in Dark Space especially since they are build specifically for humans?

Hell, this is all the fun they get for another 50 000 years.
I say, let them take their time to have some fun for once in a while, they deserve it.

If you only get to party once every 50 000 years, it better be one hell of a party.
Protheans had a galaxy spanning empire. Of course they took ages to kill off completely. Humanity has no where near as much territory. Besides, on a planet to planet basis, the extermination of organic beings is probably very quick when you're a reaper. Or a hundred.

And it took the Collectors just minutes to capture an entire colony.
The colonies the Collectors were attacking would be much smaller than London, and less well protected. Terra Nova, one of the largest human colonies for example, has 4.4 million people. Elysium also has a population of 'several million.' But in both cases you are talking about the entire planet. On Earth you'd have several cities (London included) which have larger populations than entire colony worlds.
And the colonies that were being attacked were colonies out in the Terminus that were relatively new, and only very loosely associated with the Systems Alliance. None would have had populations in the millions, and since they were only very loosely associated with the Alliance (if it all), they didn't have Alliance soldiers garrisoning them or Alliance ships parked in orbit. If they had any defenses at all it would have been nothing more than a colonial militia.

It's even more ridiculous if it's only London. So it takes them a WHOLE week to wipe out a single city? Have you seen the size of those things?

Time is a funny thing in Mass Effect. For example: Tali's loyalty mission. I can clear the Alarei in about 15-20 mins, yet admirals are heard saying that it took us several hours.

And dragon age origins takes between 20-60 hours to complete but it takes place over a year. Real life time is not relevant.

They are teeny little robots. Why wouldn't the Reapers be able to fabricate as many as they needed, to whatever specifications they needed?

It's fine, plot-wise, for the Reapers to take some time to exterminate life. As it's been said, took them centuries to kill Protheans, and the Reapers don't really seem like they would be in a hurry. I'm more bothered by how the Reapers appear in the ME3 trailer - they're pretty much landing on top of buildings and crushing them, instead of shooting stuff from the orbit with their uber-guns.
It would depend on their goals no? If the main goal still is human reaper slush then orbital bombardment wouldn't be that helpful.

What..? Really? Are the Reapers going door to door strangling people with pillows?
I mean, there were about what...100,000 immediate casualties when the nuke was dropped on Hiroshima and that was in the 40s! We're talking about the Reapers here - an ancient, spacefaring, hyper-advanced machine race of synthetics. Is that the best they could do?
lets say they each know 100 other people, boom all dead on first day
Your coworkers, assuming they weren't in the 100, all dead
the people at your favorite fast food restaurant, all dead
that uncle you never took the time to get to know, dead
lets say you take the bus, that attractive man/woman who you always wanted to talk to but could never muster up the courage, dead.
Your **** boss, dead
you get on the internet, lets say it is still up.
You go to facebook, if you have more than the first 100 people on your friends list, many of them haven't gotten on since the attack started, or they had frightening status updates, they're dead
next you go to Bioware Social networks, for the first time since Mass Effect came out people aren't b*itching and moaning there, no one is on because they are all dead.
You search the internet to try and find out what is going on, all you get are obituraries and interns filling in because all of the anchors, cameramen, producers, assistants, and make up artists are dead
suddenly, you lose internet connection and a husk is pounding on your door.
you still think the reapers are going too slow?

From the trailer, it looks like the Husks were attacking and they're the ones who were causing all the casualties.
Look at his face at the end when the Reapers show up, he has a look of "What the hell are they?" on his face. Maybe implying that the Reapers only JUST showed up at that point.

how did the normandy get back from the collector base without using the omega 4 relay? =/
and maybe the reapers were on their way back when to dark space and just got a message from the collectors to say "hey were being attacked, come back asap"

Normandy would still have old navigational data.

Hopefully they'll have something logical. Anyway, 9 million dead in a week is not slow. By any means. Maybe slower than we'd expect, but not slower than we have any hard evidence to believe.
