Mass Effect 3 Recommendation: Combat Simulation

Stepping into Mass Effect 2 as a newbie, my biggest pet peeve about the game was a lack of combat simulation. I had no idea how to use certain weapons, difficulty learning what each biotic power specifically did (even despite the descriptions), and wasn't sure how affective each team member actually was.

It would be nice if there was a combat simulator on the Normandy, at the computers, or somewhere that is easy to access. Maybe a panel that could make upgrading your team mates a cinch, as well as changing out their weapons particularly easy.

Perhaps this has already been stated, I was sifting through the threads and I couldn't find anything that met this particular issue. Thought I'd throw this suggestion out there.

I like this idea. Something like Pinnacle Station, available on the Normandy/whatnot from the beginning of the game. Would make it much easier to try out different weapon/squad combinations.

Excellent idea. I'd love to have a feature like the VR training in MGS4.

No I don't like the whole VR training room or holo deck.

I'm both for and against the idea. It would be nice, but theres nothing quite the heat of battle to force you to quickly learn what you can and cant do. After all, you screw up andits just the matter of hitting a button to reload a save.

I still have a good chuckle over the first time I let loose with the Cain and didnt bother getting behind cover once I did so. "HOLY ****! WTF just happened?!?!?"

That would actually be an awesome idea...a little VR training simulator! Excellent...make the room all-white, some pop up things here and there....Good idea.

I would love a combat simulator too. There's such a variety in the feel of different weapons/teams/classes and I would love to try them in short practise-like intervals.

I will go as far as to say Pinnacle Station was a step in the right direction (in regards to the "simulation" part) but I understand many people were left permanently disturbed by it (eh, I got it a few months ago and it was fine).

The VR simulation was terrible because the enemies never fought back. It was a glorified live fire range. I wanted to actually be able to have combat whenever I wanted.

Sounds good to me. Would like it to be on the Normandy so that whenever I get a new power I could go test it out on some mechs.

In that big empty cargo hold?

Maybe in the place where you used to talk to TIM before you cut him out.

I like this idea, so long as you wouldn't be able to farm exp from it.

Maybe at some location other than the Normandy though.

That's why if they implement that, they can just have it first time use exp only, or no exp at all.

Can we have a foosball table too? Grunt needs a non-violent hobby.

I like the idea too.

One problem I had in ME 2 was when I got a new weapon, I had no idea how it would handle until I actually brought it on a mission and used it.  A shooting range or combat simulator would have been a great way to get a feel for a new rifle, pistol, ability, or heavy weapon.

They could always simply bring back Pinnacle Station, but simply... upgrade it, and make it a little better. Give us access to those doors that we couldn't go through originally that may just take us to more involved training facilities, etc.

You can just learn by doing, though.  I'd rather that development resources be spent elsewhere.  I will admit, though, that the Mass Effect series is somewhat infamous for its skimpy tutorials.

Maybe not a pinnacle station, but some sort of sparring ring in the ship would actually be very neat. I like to play on insanity and as a result.. I still don't know how to use half of my heavy weapons, because if you stand up with one and don't know what you're doing you'll be killed before you can take an effective shot.

I actually think it would be pretty cool to have a non-xp (or xp only the first time) sparring ring where you could face off against your team mates. That way you'd get experience fighting a variety of different types of enemies too. On top of giving people a 'tutorial' if they wanted it, it could also be good for improving 1) dialogue with NPCs 2) relationships between NPCs. ME2 felt pretty void in that department, as though none of them ever thought to speak to each other. Perhaps if it were implemented like the varren pit on tuchanka. You could bet, and it would show a short discussion/yelling match or reaction shot when the fight takes place from your companions. It could be just a handful of scripted events over the course of the game where your companions would chat it up, or you could just spar yourself to learn how to use a weapon.

Yeah, I should have heeded the warnings, but the truth is, it was not very well implimented, the whole Shepard gets a house for beating a certain level was lame, least of all because you could do nothing in the house or even jump in the mako parked outside.

But I would definitely be in favor of something like the holodeck to learn, that seems more sensible to me than the usual first mission being a trainer.

There is not enough space on Normandy for such things, just sayin'.

it would be good but not if you had to do it
