I actually posted something a while ago regarding something similiar to Pinnacle Station but better as a way EA could have their multiplayer without compromising the single player experience.

So this to me would be a nice idea. Something else that would be nice would be the option to do Special missions like you got to do for the captain.

Imagine getting to actually play through the event that made Shepards name

Ruthless - complete the Torfan mission

Sole Survivor - try and survive Akuze

War Hero - Survive the attack on Elysium

Or even throw in some N7 training missions

I've seen this preposed before and I'm still for it, I've always liked instant action.

That sounds freakin' epic.

OP...

And then take even more of the fun out of the game?

Jesus people these days, may as well pay a poor third world country child in peanuts to play it for you ?

umm what? he's asking for the ability to simply learn how to play the game without having to do it during a critical mission where he'll have to sit through load screen after load screen in order to do so. you don't recruit new soldiers for an army then say "no boot camp or weapons training go and learn in real combat".

I love the people that are like "l2p scrub" then once someone suggest a good way to learn the game they same "no thats dumb and hand holding and for newbs"

Surely part of the fun is learning how to do things, making mistakes and then doing it better on your next run through?

It's the exact same principle as people coming here asking for the ultimate pawnz bad ass build before they have even played the damn game....

Just play it and learn as you go. And in all seriousness, if you're having trouble getting to grips with ME...one should question whether you're even ready for playing games.

While I agree with this part of your statement, having an option to go to a location to practise isn't really a bad thing as long as you aren't forced into it.

Would you be more interested in the idea if for example it let you get a bit more detail into your Shepard's life.

If you look at my earlier post I said it would be good if you could play missions from the past (ones based on your background choices; Akuze, Elysium, Torfan) or ones based on N7 training missions or even let you relive battles from the first contact war or other past missions from your squadmates.

What would you think of the idea then?

I support the idea, but just like Wizz said,I don't think there's enough space on Normandy.

If such a feature would even exist in ME3, I'm not sure I would use it, even after I'd have finished the game.

Nocturnal..

have no issues with those ideas...but not as a simulator to 'make you better' at the game...

To me it's similar to the many ppl (so I must be in the minority) who save and reload at conversations to get the best one for that particular point in time.....seriously...wtf? Just play the damn game and live by your choices...and if you screw something up roll with it...make a different decision next time.

I see your point and I agree that reloading from saves to get the 'best' choice detracts from the game.

I think the main point of this combat simulator idea is that it remains optional, if a player wants to use it then its up to the individual to decide if they need/want or couldn't care less.

As for screwing things up that is part of the game, as someone else had said in this thread they fired the cain without knowing how it worked. I've done that, actually I went through three missions trying to understand why it wouldn't fire (at the time I didn't realise you needed a certain amount of ammo to fire) then when i finally got it to work I went boom as it was in close quarters <_<

A pinnacle station type of thing on the Normandy would be outstanding. Could even add the pinnacle station type of challenges.

I did that too Nocturnal with the Cain lmao...and got my ass wasted (against those three mechs with the crates)....finally figured out what I was doing wrong....lost most of the crates.

Next run through, wasted em :P But to me, making a balls of it and getting wasted was part of the fun....meh....

I think a lot of it is role playing to real life (if thats actually possible)....so in my mind, when i first got the collector heavy weapon (even though its point and pull trigger), unfortunately it fdoesn't come with a glossy manual and combat sim to tell me how best to use it.

Perhaps with regards to what the OP wanted, this could be implemented by coding the starting difficulty to the sim, so if you start the game on (had a little shooter experience) setting, the combat sim is open to you, if you set your difficulty to say (experienced vet), its locked?

I'm both for and against the idea. It would be nice, but theres nothing quite the heat of battle to force you to quickly learn what you can and cant do. After all, you screw up andits just the matter of hitting a button to reload a save.
I still have a good chuckle over the first time I let loose with the Cain and didnt bother getting behind cover once I did so. "HOLY ****! WTF just happened?!?!?"

I had a simmilar experience while killing a Ymir with a headshot. I was all "hey why is that thing making that noise OH SHI-"

LOL, finally decided to have fun with the Cain on Horizon. Feels awesome to hold the equivalent of a handheld nuke and fire it at the Praetor......Until I realized that it took my barrier out just as the Cain launched. just enough time to swear out a quick expletive that was drowned out by the sound of Shepherd being incinerated.Image IPB

That makes sense you wouldn't have an enemy carrying a manual to their weapons.

I doubt linking it to difficulty would help because some people might want to use the combat sim but prefer to play it on higher difficulties.

I think the best way is just to make it optional, let players go to it to use if they want but make it so they can ignore it if they wish.

Stepping into Mass Effect 2 as a newbie, my biggest pet peeve about the game was a lack of combat simulation. I had no idea how to use certain weapons, difficulty learning what each biotic power specifically did (even despite the descriptions), and wasn't sure how affective each team member actually was.

It would be nice if there was a combat simulator on the Normandy, at the computers, or somewhere that is easy to access. Maybe a panel that could make upgrading your team mates a cinch, as well as changing out their weapons particularly easy.

Perhaps this has already been stated, I was sifting through the threads and I couldn't find anything that met this particular issue. Thought I'd throw this suggestion out there.

I SUPPORT THIS! :wizard:
