Cool down time for powers and heat sinks for weapons fix.

So lets start with Global cool down, the reason most hate it is beacuse it kinds of get in the way of really doing any fast combos with powers and also use of powers with high cool down doesn't get use much or at all, beacause why would anyone use shockwave and wait 6 seconds when you can use pull or trow for 3 seconds, and shockwave is such a useful and cool power but because of that 6 seconds wait it doesn't get used much or at all.
so my idea is simple, 3 seconds global cool down, you use a power like barrier it as a 12 sec cool, as you use it the 3 seconds global cool kicks in where you can't use any power for 3 seconds, after 3 seconds you can use any power but barrir which is still on it 12 sec cooldown.
Now for heat sinks, the people that hate it is beacuse they miss having unlimited ammo from ME1 or hate having to look for ammo after every fight, or the fact that they can't use the weapon they like, in ME1 you can use any weapon you wanted for the whole game because you never ran out of ammo for that gun, not in ME2, if you are using a weapon you like its going to run out of ammo and you're going to have to switch to another gun.
so my idea is removing the heat sinks and replace it with a cooling clip, you have three clips for a gun you can only carry 3 at any given time, so your shooting your gun over heats like ME1, you hit the reaload botton and reloads with the cool clip, cool the gun and still give you that reload sensation from ME2 but not wait like ME1, you have 3 clip and every reload just cylcesbetween them, giving the clip you just used time to cool down, the clips could be attached to your armor on the side of your chest, at first your clips would give you the minimum amout od shots before you have to reload, as you level up and get better you will get better clips that will give you more shots before reloading.
so what do you think, do you have a better way of doing them or do you just want it to back the it was in ME1 or stay the same way it is now.

Global cooldown DOES allow for combos - use your squad.
As for thermal clips - I don't care, I never had any problems.

the way it is now you can only do mix two powers for a combo, in ME1 you could have lift someone debuff them with warp and then hit them with a carnage with just the vanguard alone, i want those types of combos agian not this simple combos we have right now.Kronner wrote...

And then you'd be useless for half a minute or more. No, I like global cooldowns. I don't think they're perfect, but they work well at forcing you to be strategic about your power use and your squad.

You can do that exact same combo in ME2. Granted the effects of certain powers has changed.
Adept or Vanguard uses Pull - > 2 seconds later Warp/Reave - > Shoot a rocket from the Rocket Launcher.
The cooldown on Pull is negligible after upgrades. The time between casting Pull and the cooldown is nearly as short as the animation gap in ME1.
The ME2 system is way more balanced and you're not losing nearly as much effectiveness as you'd like to pretend. The fact that you could spam Singularities to round up entire rooms of enemies and wipe them out with constant Warps and "Fire Forever Pistol Machineguns" was NOT good gameplay.

it still doesn't change the fact that on insanity i and most users doesn't use shockwave, barrier, conssive shot, cryo blast, etc beacuse theres always a power that is better because it has a shorter cool down time.Omega-202 wrote...

i don't see any of you giving ideas, this is the last Mass Effect 3 and you think they are going to keep it the same, alot of things are going to change, might as well make your voice be hear, the 3 second global cool down as been used in many MMO's, it is what keeps combat moving and flowing, as an adept if you really just can't use biotics to play the game they have to use guns at some point, with the 3 second global cool down it lets the adept play as adept by using biotics, and what if i don't want to use biotic teammates and just tech and combat, my adepts just sits behind cover waiting for powers to recharge.

A) The game was not designed around Insanity difficulty. Christina Norman has said this. They didn't balance the game around every enemy having defenses.
C) The third game is using essentially the same game engine as ME2. Its coming out only 22 months after the second game. I doubt that much is going to change and you have no proof it will. At this point, we're less than 10 months from the game going gold and being ready for publish. Not that much is going to change at this point.
D) The designers have said that his is a game where they want you using guns no matter what class. Both ME1 and ME2 were designed as shooter/RPG hybrids and they've made it perfectly clear that the optimal way to play is to use your guns and powers in conjunction. No class was designed to be solely guns or solely powers.

Get real, Shockwave isn't used past veteran because it doesn't do anything against protected opponents but stagger them, and takes a long time to cast(animation) while being easy to dodge. Even on lower levels it is situational for me because of the habit of enemies to simply move out of it's way as it chugs down the path.
Barrier IS used, especially with shotgun adepts, and is very useful and effective. Concussive shot isn't used much because it doesn't do much damage and there is always a more EFFECTIVE power like ARush to use. Especially once you get the cooldown upgrades, powers are fast to reset and when used with companions allow for total domination of the battlefield. If they had much quicker cooldowns you would see an overpowered cakewalk like the first game with biotics.
The only real changes that should be made to shockwave is either to make it throw up protected enemies or do some damage against the protections, at around half the damage of warp. Concussive shot simply needs to be made to do more damage against barriers and shields to be used more, but at the current level why use it when you can simply ARush a few shots with Assault rifle and get more damage??
If you went to the hybrid cooldown system you are talking about then EVERY power would have a 12+ second cooldown to balance the system, and I would rather keep my pull/throw on less than 3 after upgrades.

I like the disposable heat sinks, regardless of what they are made of and how they actually work. But, from what I understand about them, I at least prefer that they work based on what is known about thermodynamics.
So, the only way that I can see modifying how they work with the gameplay mechanics is to automatically replenish them after a battle so that one does not have to scavenge from the battlefield.
I'm still thinking through how they can work, but I could share my theories also.
