I'm not bringing up the old DEX vs CUN debate, but more trying to learn the calculations.

Regardless of which is ideal for your needs, the consensus is that Cunning builds do more damage per strike. But isn't damage from daggers 50 percent determined by Dexterity? This is assuming your game is patched so the dagger bug no longer applies. With the Ultimate Edition I'm (assuming) mine is also patched so daggers do 50/50 attribute damage from STR/DEX?

With that being said, high Dex also increases damage per strike if you're usingn daggers, does it not?

So what are all the factors that make Cunning such a clear winner with damage?

With a cunning build, wouldn't you be better off with a sword at least in the main hand? This would mean Cunning is used for ALL attribute damage instead of half. Is it that the strike speed more than makes up for it, or are there other reasons?

Ok here goes alot of the talents are based off your cunning score. -

Exploit Weakness Passive

Requires: Level 12

A keen eye and a killer instinct help the assassin exploit a target’s weak points. During a successful backstab attack, the assassin gains additional damage based on cunning.

Song of Courage Sustained

Requires: Level 10

The bard launches into an epic song of the party’s exploits, granting them bonuses to attack, damage, and critical chance. The size of the bonuses are affected by the bard’s cunning. The bard can only sing one song at a time.

Lethality Passive

The rogue has a keen eye for weak spots, and thus gains a bonus to critical chance for all attacks. Additionally, if the rogue's cunning score is greater than strength, sharpness of mind lets the character use the cunning modifier to affect attack damage in place of the strength modifier.

The Tainted Blade Sustained

The rogue’s blood gushes forth, coating the edges of weapons with a deadly taint. The character gains a bonus to damage determined by the cunning attribute, but suffers continuously depleting health in return.

so these abilities all revolve around cunning the more cunning you have the better they will become

and the big one is

Each point of cunning adds approximately 0.14 armor penetration, the exact formula is:

AP = (Cunning - 10) / 7

so we already know daggers have awsome armor pen this just adds to it

PlayingWithKnives, and why not a sword in the main hand? They (seem) to attack with the same or similar speed as daggers when you're using back stab or special attacks, both of which I use frequently. Only downside I see is that I haven't seen any swords with the back stab bonuses that many daggers come with.

Ok the reason sword or anything other than a dagger in the main hand is not optimal is when you dont have 2 daggers it takes an average of the 2 speeds so because its a sword etc it will be a slower overall speed. ( probably not noticable in combat like you say but remember looks can be decieving).
here are the 2 weapon speed modifiers in comparison
                            longsword       Dagger
Speed Modifier              -0.1          0.5
The duration of a normal attack (no activated Talent used) is calculated as follows:
AttackDuration = (BaseTiming + WeaponSpeedMod) * CharacterSpeedModifier
BaseTiming
* Dual-Weapons (each weapon is used in turn): 1.5s
* Weapon and Shield: 2.0s
* Two-handed: 2.5s

dual daggers speed is the key plus you get the high armor pen bonus from daggers and like you pointed out only really daggers have the high crit chance on them
On a more personal note i just think a rogue should have 2 daggers period but thats just me im a big fan of rogues in all rpg's there my thing :)
