Thane, hands down.  He stole my vote for favorite Bioware character ever from Zevran.

In ME1: Kaidan and Wrex

In ME2: after Thane: Mordin, Legion, Garrus and Tali.

My favourite: Ash.

The fact she ain't just loved, or hated, she's a mix. People are split on Ash due to her opinions and beliefs.

She ain't viewed as a superhero, people see her as a regular human, some say this is boring, but I disagree. Ash being normal in a game like Mass effect and feeling truly human is unique itself, and that is a big acomplishment for Bioware, and this makes her very interesting to me.

She finds it hard to trust aliens, but yet she hates Cerberus and Terra firma for there extremism and racism, making her a very complex character.

Her relationship with Shep (if romanced) goes at a great steady pace, I didn't once think it's going too fast. And you can actually be friends with her if not romanced or femShep.

She is religous, but she ain't a zealot. I think she use's her faith so she can keep a level head, not have to worry about death (she is a marine, death is around her all the time) and for the hope that she may see her father again one day.

she can recite poetry, I find this very attractive, shes is a tough women, but this shows she ain't just tough, she is also a inteligent women.

She has some mean comebacks, and just some great  dialogue throughout. And she sticks to her guns, Horizon, while the scene was annoying, it made her a even greater character.

She ain't a typical women we get in a game, who is basically eye candy for the player, she looks like a normal person, a real female soldier.

She's close to her family, and we learn alot about them from her, this again adds alot of depth to the character

This all and much more, makes her the deepest character in ME (imo) and one of the finest characters I have experienced in a game.

Thanks to Chris L'Etoile for writing such a awsome, and realistic character. I hope whoever writes Ash in ME3 pays close attention to what L'Etoile did with Ash in ME1.

This is why Ash is my favourite too! Image IPB Followed by Kaidan, Mordin and Wrex.

All in all: Miranda of course, though we'll see what ME3 brings.

ME1: my favorite is Kaidan, but Ashley is impressively well-written. Can't decide between them.

ME2: Miranda hands down, for all the reasons posted here.

Honorable mention: Mordin, Legion.

Not so good: ME1 Tali (so much better in ME2), ME1 Liara (so much better in ME2), Grunt (can't connect with him).
Least favorite: Garrus. Can't say he's badly written, I just don't like him.

Mordin Solus MD.

My brain is compelling me to give a favourable mention to Tali and Garrus as well.

Uhh...this is going to be depressing. Okay, don't like anyone from ME1 but Wrex/Garrus.

But I like Grunt more then Wrex, but Wrex is will always be the best old friend.

Even though I slink around the Garrus thread sometimes, he really isn't at number one on the characters I think are the best.

Erm. Maybe this will help:

Best Characters on my list:

1. Mordin since he's a all around likable and very well-written character...and for pete's sake he sings.

I'm having trouble here...okay, I give up. I feel like I'm not being honest to myself.

Honorable mention to Garrus and Thane. (Because Garrus will always be my best squadmate and Thane because, well, is the only guy I romanced...twice.)

It's really depressing, you know, how much depth in character these games suggest but never explores much. Hopefully they will come out with books on them...actual novels, I mean. Anyone else for this? o_o

Major lulz at the outraged "MIRANDA IS NOT A SEX OBJECT" er...

Favourite throughout both has to be Garrus. Mordin is awesome. Mordin and Jack formed my team for the bulk of the game (thankful for the Jack new appearance, she looks far better with some upper clothes on now, and i have to admit, whilst alot of people have flamed the sunglasses, i love hers).

Just about to start second playthrough will all the new DLC now.

Hard as hell to chose one single char.

I guess it would have to be Liara. ME1 and LotSB Liara is just so awesome that there ain't anything that I wouldn't do for her.

Close second is Urdnot Wrex, there is nothing like a Krogan yelling SHEPARD! MY FRIEND!

After that Miranda/Tali/Garrus.

Don't know bout you ppl, but after that there is ****loads of them that are equally awesome (Mordin, Legion, Grunt, Anderson, Aria, Samara), I'll just put Kal'reggar a bit above them do cause Baldwin did an awesome job with acting a Quarian badass soldier.

Wrex. Greatest. Bad***. Ever!

Also Grunt. He has the most epic Loyalty Mission in ME2 IMHO.

My Shepard(s), of course.
Tali, Garrus, Wrex, Liara. Thane. Zaeed. I really like all of them. Except for Ashley and Miranda. I strongly dislike them at times.

If "best" = "most interesting", then for me it's a tie between Mordin or Ashley, for many of the reasons others have already listed above. Honorable mention goes to Kaidan (only for a femshep in ME1) and Legion.

If "best" = "most likeable", then it's almost impossible to decide. Kaidan, Jacob, Tali, Deekin, Thane, Anderson, Mordin, Kal'Reegar, even the consort's receptionist. I may have gotten carried away there.
